Traces of Grace in 2010

Dear Fellow Parishioner;

Great things happen when many dedicated hands and hearts pull together. It was on the Feast day of
our patron, St. Edward the Confessor, when 33 Chilean miners were hauled to the surface after 69 days
of rocky captivity. While the top technology from all over the world was brought to bear for the res-
cue, I think it should be noted that Pope Benedict had prayed at the tomb of St. Edward during his re-
cent trip to England for the safety of the miners. And it was the saint’s feast day, October 13th that 33
Lazarus’s rose from the earth.

I have no doubt that we are also graced by the benefice of St. Edward the Confessor and San Felipe de
Jesús. We have a long tradition of strong parish support which has allowed us to move forward as an
ever more vibrant and Gospel centered parish. We have over 70 active ministries, support several out-
reach projects to the poor and the needy. Bringing on Neil Sampson as our part-time Volunteer Coor-
dinator will help strengthen those ministries. Our Pastoral Council is focusing on our mission and goals
as a parish faith community. In this past year, because of generous regular financial support from you,
we were also able to assist with financial aid to many school families who qualified for tuition assis-
tance. We are in our second year of support to another Catholic school in Anaheim working hard to
keep their doors open to their students. Because of you, our parish is a beacon of hope.

So how are we doing? With our Business Office along with oversight from our Finance Council we are
continuing to be strong even in the midst of this difficult economy. Because of your generosity, we are
able to continue to be generous to those in need and still plan for our future. We pledge to continue
to be good stewards of your gifts.

Many of us have been cutting back on expenses and reevaluating our financial priorities in order to
meet our family needs. I would ask you to consider St. Edward as part of your family. Your financial
commitment helps to keep our faith community engaged in so many good ministries. If you are a regu-
lar contributor, please continue to be generous. If you give on occasion or not at all please consider a
regular financial contribution to your parish family. No gift is too small! Take a look at the opposite
page as a resource for your thoughtful giving. I encourage you to enroll in ParishPay, as many parish
families and I have, to make your contribution automatically every month. As we approach our 2011
Offertory Program, I ask you to reflect on the gifts God has given you and pray with your loved ones
how to gift back to the Lord through your St. Edward the Confessor community. St. Edward and San
Felipe de Jesús, pray for us!

Together in Christ;

Fr. Steve Sallot

COMMITMENT WEEKEND – NOVEMBER 13 & 14, 2010

When planning our parish budget for the upcoming year, every family’s promise will assist in providing the good
works of community, ministry, and charity that are anticipated from our parish. At Mass last weekend I asked you to
pray with your family and thoughtfully consider what you are able to contribute to the parish next year.

Some folks ask “How much should I give?” To assist you, please see the chart below for suggested weekly offerings
that relate your family’s income. You might consider the following activities as a form of reference when making
your decision. What sacrifice could you offer to be a better steward to your parish?

This coming Sunday I will be asking your family to complete a commitment card to let us know what you have de-
cided. Whether you decide to increase, decrease, or stay the same, we ask that you begin your new commitment in

Rasgos de gracia a 2010

Estimados feligreses:

A medida
