Statement of the Problem

This study intends to assess the level of physical activity and food intake of senior high
students who suffers weight gain on their present days.
Specifically, it aims to find out what are the possible answers to the following
questions:

1. How can respondent-students be describe in terms of:

a. Age
b. Sex
c. Section
2. How high or low is the level of physical activity of students regarding:
a. Sports
b. Recreational activities
3. How high or low is the level of food intake of senior high students regarding:
a. Sweet foods
b. Fatty foods
c. Salty foods
4. How obese are the senior high respondents regarding their BMI?

Hypothesis
The following alternative hypothesis had been adapted in the study.
1. There was a low level of physical activity of students regarding:
a. Sports
b. Recreational activities
2. There was a high level of food intake of senior high students regarding:
a. Sweet foods
b. Fatty foods
c. Salty foods
3. Respondent’s senior high respondents are “Class 1” obese regarding their BMI.

Methods and Procedures

Research Design
A research design refers to the overall strategy that is being chosen to integrate the
different components of the study in a coherent and logical way. It constitutes the blueprint for
collection, measurement and analysis of data (Trochim, W.M.K., 2009).
This study adapts a survey research design used for a quantitative research. The design
aims to assess the level of physical activity and food intake of students who suffers weight gain
on their present days. Bergman (2008), considered survey research as social scientific research
and focuses on people, the vital facts of people, and their beliefs, opinions, attitudes,
motivations and behavior. The reason why this study adapts a survey research design, because
it suits to the process of assessing certain persons to classify their level of physical activity and
food intake and behavior regarding their weight gain.

Participants
Chosen respondents are qualified if they are a Senior High School student, and
suffering weight gain by comparing their BMI from June 2018 to now March 2019. So that
this study wants to assess through survey their level of physical activity and food intake.

Sampling Technique
The study will use a simple random sampling method, for the group of students who
suffers weight gain. They will be finally selected through lottery type under simple random
technique. “Simple random sampling is a sampling technique where every item in the
population has an even chance and likelihood of being selected in the sample. Here the
selection of items completely depends on chance or by probability and therefore this sampling
technique is also sometimes known as a method of chances. ”, (Wiley, 2012).
The researcher acquire out the element that meet the specific criteria such as enrolled
in Porac Model Community High School because the study was conducted among the school
premises. Currently a senior high student in a reason that this is the scope of study.

Data management and analysis

This study uses the weighted mean analysis, this interpretation shows the range of
possible outcomes through given interval of values where it could land based on the given
values on the instrument. The following are the value of intervals used in this study.
Range of value for weighted mean of responses
Always 4.6 – 5
Most of the Time 4 – 4.5
Sometimes 3.6 - 3.9
Rarely 3 – 3.5
Never 2.5 - 2.9

Data Collection
Before data are collected there are some precautions that are done to conduct the
interview around the school premises. The Principal of Porac Model Community High School
was given a letter to be sign as he approve the survey to be started. The process of survey was
conducted around school premises and they are surveyed according to structured survey
questionnaire. As the session start, researcher/s may discuss the questions on the survey
questionnaire to prevent misconception of the respondents.
Questions given are only related to Statement of the Problem.
