Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your
classroom:
During a six week period, the students would work on an original narrative during their writing block. They
would develop characters, settings, and events using descriptive details. The would show a natural
progression of events and develop a problem or conflict and a resolution. Students would engage in the
revision and editing process before submitting their work. The teacher will provide feedback at individual
writing conferences throughout the process. The student’s work will be graded using a rubric and the rubric
will be provided to the students at the beginning of the project.
Once students have completed their original narratives, the class will go to the computer lab where they will
type them and share them on KIdPub. The students will then access KidPub and read at least 2 of their
classmates stories and tell what they liked about them. The teacher will assign each student the two stories
they need to “review” so that all students have their stories commented on. They will also review a story on
KidPub from a student outside their classroom and provide a brief description of what the story was about.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom?
Computers in the computer lab
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be
addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their
school: The students are reading and reviewing 2 stories from their peers and also reading a story
published on KidPub from a student outside the classroom.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or producing original
products as a result of engaging in a project): Students are developing an original narrative and
developing a sequence of events that will make for an interesting story.
c. Higher-order thinking: Students are reaching the highest level of Bloom’s Taxonomy as they create an
original work of literature.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their product: Students
will be publishing their original narratives on KidPub where it can be read and reviewed by other
students around the world.
