Call for papers

The Centre for Himalayan studies, North Bengal University, invites research papers, short notes on
research updates, book reviews for its annual research Journal, The Himalayan Miscellany: An Area
Studies Journal in Social Sciences (ISSN 0970-4922). The Himalayan Miscellany intends to publish
contributions on theoretical and methodological issues, socio-economic, political and other related
developments of contemporary concern from multi-disciplinary perspective on the Himalayas. The
prospective contributors are requested to follow the following guideline.

1) Word limits
 Lead Article: Research paper maximum 8000 words.
 Commentary: Brief notes on contemporary developments in the Himalayas/ research
updates on the Himalayas maximum 3000 words.
 Book Review: Maximum 1500 words.
 Regional Language: Maximum 8000 words (please submit articles written either in Nepali,
Hindi or Bengali)
2) The font
 Times New Roman, 12 point (for English Contributions)
 Aamar Bangla Normal, 14 point (for Bengali contributions)
 Krutidev10, 12 point (for Nepali/ Hindi contributions) Mangal/ Unicode typed texts should be
converted into Kurtived10 font, 12 point (free converters are available online)
 Double space throughout the text. 1″ margin in all side of each page.
 Abstract 150 words with 4-5 keywords must accompany each contribution excepting Book
Reviews. Abstract of articles written in Regional Language(s) must be in English.
3) Name(s) of the author(s) along with affiliation and institutional address (email, telephone)
must be provided in a separate page [i.e. the piece submitted for consideration should not bear
the name of the author(s) or have any hint in the text that may disclose their identity].
4) We strongly discourage footnotes. However, endnotes may be used rather sparingly and
should be done manually [i.e. not by using the “insert” option of the M.S Office]. All notes
must be listed as endnotes. Acknowledgement, if any, should come immediately after the text
and before the endnotes followed by references.
5) Language and spelling used should follow UK standards.
6) Non English local/ native terms and phrases should be italicized and used with an English
equivalent.
7) Numbers from one to nine should be spelt out while 10 and above should be in figures.
However for exact numbers such as longitude and latitude and GDP, numerals may be used.
8) Direct quotations above 40 words should be separated by using indent option.
9) Use “per cent” not the symbol % in the text but the symbol can be used in tables. Use
‘twentieth century’ not ‘20th century’ and date such as “1990” should be written in numbers.
10) Acronyms, if any, should be spelt out in the first occurrence.
11) Papers must be printed on one side of the page with 1 inch margin at each side.
12) Tables, diagrams, images etc. should not be placed in the text. They should be placed in a
separate page and in the text there placement may be suggested (like putting a sentence in
parenthesis saying Table no./ diagram/ image X be placed here). All images must of high
resolution (no less than 300 dpi) and be prepared in black and white and in jpg format.
13) Please follow APA style of referencing.
14) Reviewer’s comments will be communicated to the respective authors (first author, in case of
multiple authors) within 30 days of the submission. Authors are expected to respond as early
as possible (within two weeks maximum) to facilitate early publication.
15) Deadline for submission is 31st July 2019. Soft copies (MS Word file) of all manuscripts
(except Book Review) are to be submitted through E-mail to Managing Editor
(ss3soc@gmail.com). Book Reviews are to be submitted to Book Review Editors
(binayaksundas@gmail.com/ adwityathapa@gmail.com).
