2019 NATIONAL NO SMOKING MONTH CELEBRATION

AND ASSIGNING OF TOBACCO CONTROL COORDINATORS IN ALL SCHOOLS

In pursuant to DepED Memorandum No. 070, s. 2019 the School’s Division Office of Batangas
Province actively implements the 2019 National No Smoking Month Celebration.

The department shall focus on promoting the implementation of DepEd Order No. 48 s. 2016
entitled “Policy and Guidelines on Comprehensive Tobacco Control” in all schools and offices.

All schools under Batangas Province shall conduct educational and information drive to raise
awareness on the said policy and the effects of smoking either in any form of e-cigarettes, vape and
tobacco in health, environment and socio-economic conditions.

The following activities may serve as your guide for the celebration:

1. Putting up signages and giving IEC materials in school or office is a smoke free zone in
prominent and strategic locations.
2. Conducting awareness-raising activities by means of lectures or audio-visual presentations in
students and parents.
3. Activities for teaching and non-teaching personnel, such as reiteration of tobacco control
policies, especially the absolute smoking ban in DepED premises (CSC Memorandum Circular
No. 17, s. 2009)
4. Activities for store owners within 100-meter perimeter of the school, such as monitoring of
the stores in coordination with the barangay.
5. Other activities are permitted as long it is aligned with core of the celebration.

from the link is permitted and must abide to the standards of the institution.

 Soft copies of activities with proper captions and with only 3-5 pages allotted, will be
submitted to stop.smoking.deped.batangas@gmail.com using only Microsoft Word as
format. Hard copies will be given to Nurse Arjay Petil Focal Person on Comprehensive Tobacco
Control at School Health Section, Division Office. Deadline of submission is on July 1, 2019.

To strengthen the enforcement of 100% Smoke-Free in schools we will also request that all
schools will have a designated Tobacco Control Coordinator with the following qualifications:

1. Non-Smoker or quit smoking for almost a year

2. Does not sell or promote tobacco and other related products
3. Not a stakeholder in a tobacco industry
4. Does not have a family or relative working in the tobacco industry
5. Willing to be a coordinator for 3 years, to ensure that the activity plan and programs of
the Comprehensive Tobacco Control Policy will be fully implemented and have enough
time to endorse the program to other coordinators within the 3 years span.
