 Safety rules
Important. Read these safety rules and
operating instructions with great care
before using the motor.
1. These motors should only be in-
stalled, adjusted and maintained by
qualified personnel who are aware of
the method of operation of the mo-
tors and the related dangers. Failure
to observe these safety rules may
result in personal injuries.
2. The user has to provide for correct
earthing of the motor before start-
up. The motor should only be oper-
ated with the appropriate isolating
devices with circuit breakers or
other safety devices. Mannesmann
Dematic is neither responsible for
earthing nor for the supply and
fitting of this peripheral equipment.
3. The user must ensure that the
driven machines in the entire instal-
lation function perfectly even if they
are not supplied by Mannesmann
Dematic.
4. Dangerous high voltage.
Motors are connected to a danger-
ous supply voltage. The projecting
parts of these motors may carry a
hazardous voltage when mainte-
nance work is being carried out.
Disconnect from the supply before
working on motors, i.e. when test-
ing motors or when maintenance
jobs have to be carried out.
5. Rotating machines and parts of
these machines as well as electric
voltages can be dangerous. There-
fore we strongly recommend you
follow the national and local regula-
tions when working on electric ma-
chines and equipment.
Motors should only be installed,
fitted and maintained by qualified
personnel.

6. Protective measures.
Before start-up, care must be taken
that an additional protective meas-
ure to VDE 0100 has been taken.
There is a terminal for the protective
conductor marked to DIN 40011
inside the terminal box.
An external earthing terminal can be
fitted on request (against extra
charge).
In the case of protective earthing,
the earthing terminal must have
been connected.
If several protective measures are
used, these must not render each
other ineffective.
7. Connections should be carried out
by qualified personnel (VDE 0105) in
accordance with local regulations or
to VDE 0100 (specification for the
installation of power plants with line
voltages of up to 1000 V).
8. Motors must not be operated with
an open terminal box.
9. The rated voltage indicated on the
motor must be strictly observed.
10. When three-phase brake motors
start up, the brake is released and
the shaft is axially displaced.
11. If the motor fan cover features IP 20
protection, objects (screwdrivers, for
example) should not be introduced
into the venting grid since a metal
fan rotates inside the motor during
operation.
12. Brake motors must not be operated
when the fan cover has been re-
moved.
