DETAILED LESSON PLAN

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. Identify social situations in which each speech style is appropriate to use
b. Appreciate one’s speech style that conveys purpose
c. Show teamwork and cooperation through performing different speech style
in various situation

sort the things that must be considered in the

4. Motivation

Class, I want you to imagine what you or


Daniela Mondragon says and how you say it
as soon as you meet each of them.

First you meet is a student, what do you think


will Daniela say as soon as they meet? (Various answers from the students)

How about meeting these two teachers? How (Various answers from the students)
about the principal?

What have you observed with the utterances I greet him/her every time I see her or him
of what you have just made when you met
your principal?

How about when you meet your friends? How Hi, how are you?
can you approach them?

talking to.

5. Lesson Proper

This morning, you will learn about one feature


of communicative strategy which is Speech
Style.

Before we start, let us first unlock the word


style.

Style- is a particular manner or way of


behaving, doing, creating or performing a
thing

Speech Style- is the form of language that a


speaker uses and it is characterized by the
degree of formality. This implies that the
language used by speakers varies based on
given situations or settings and the persons
involved. (value focus)

I will be showing you pictures and you need


to guess the different speech styles based on
the pictures flash on the screen.
(The teacher will show pictures of each
speech style and the students will be the one
to pick based on the set of definitions given.)

Casual- language is used between friends

informal situations and

Consultative-this is used in semi-formal


communication
Sentences tend to be shorter and
spontaneous

Formal- language is comparatively rigid and


has a set agreed upon vocabulary that is well
documented; is often of a standard variety

or expressions whose meaning is shared with
a small subset of persons

After checking the definition of each speech


style. Beforehand, Meta strips were pasted
under your chair wherein you will identify
each situation for each speech style.

7. Application

Please form five (5) groups. You will have an


activity called “It’s Showtime”. Mechanics will
be given to you.

creatively using the
appropriate speech
styles
3. You are given 5
minutes to prepare and
1 minute to present
4. Each member of the
group shall have a role
to play.

Situation 1: Between groom and bride

Situation 5: Between childhood best friends

speech styles that are

chosen situation.

dialogue as you will
interpretatively read it the
next day.
