Mission Statement

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated
to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing
suffering from cancer, through research, education advocacy, and service.

North Central Region
Dear Wexford County & surrounding areas, American Cancer Society, Inc.
I write to you today as a cancer survivor, a cancer caregiver and 1755 Abbey Rd
as a cancer advocate for Relay for Life. I have been a cancer
survivor since 1993, a Relayer since 2003, and an advocate since East Lansing, MI 48823
2008. My life has changed because of Relay for Life and I have seen Phone: 231.645.5887
so many other lives touched as well. I don’t believe that I would still Fax: 616.364.6451
be here if it wasn’t for the funding for research from the American
Cancer Society. I remember my first Relay: taking the track for my
first survivor lap, the tears of joy that spilled from my eyes to see so
many other survivors and to see a multitude of care givers, friends, 1.800.227.2345 FREE
family, and strangers encourage us.
This battle is a BIG battle – but we are strong in numbers. For the
load may be heavy but with the hands of many it becomes lighter.
THANK YOU to all who help fight this battle!! Supporting

Light the way
to a cure!
When the sun goes down, hundreds
– sometimes thousands – of luminaria
light the way under the stars and
a moment of silence falls during a
moving ceremony of remembrance.

Luminaria are glowing bags that
appear to be just paper sacks filled with
canned goods and candles, but every
bag represents a life that has battled
cancer. The luminaria ceremony is
one of the most emotional moments as
Relay. It is a time to remember those
lost to cancer, support those fighting
cancer and rejoice with those who
have fought and won. Please join us
at 10pm for this ceremony. Luminaria
will be available during the relay at the
registration table.

We applaud cancer survivors for their strength and

courage in battling this devastating illness. As we
recognize cancer survivors, we also recognize the
importance of joining together in the fight for a cure.
You can show your support by walking in a cancer
