THESIS SYNOPSY

SYNOPSIS

This project focuses on a study of building design in a tropical climate in Marathwada,


Maharashtra, India. The project aims for a design of a INDIAN INSTITUTE OF
MANAGEMENT at Aurangabad, Maharashtra. That relates to the cultural, topological
and climatic context. This aim is reached through a thorough analysis of the site and
building tradition together with investigations of institutional building technologies in
general. Calculations on the energy consumption will integrated in the process from
the early design phase till the final detailing.

AIM

The existing IIM campuses in the country are at its full population. There is s significant
need for more IIMs to cater the need of professional country needs every year. And
Marathwada in Maharashtra is a region which is neglected by the governments from
the development point, it is highly draught hit area in the country, people are moving
out of this region for education, jobs, etc. the aim is to cater the top class education
facility in the region in the city of Aurangabad to make a new attempt to do justice
with the region which have been neglected from development point of perspective
all the way since independence.

Aurangabad is also the administrative capital of the centrally


situated Marathwada region. The city is an important industrial hub, as well as a
tourism hub, and is surrounded by several historical monuments and the
UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Ajanta and Ellora caves. It has a very reach
cultural and heritage history to influence the architecture.

OBJECTIVES

1. The primary purpose of designing an education institution building is to bring


the justice to the region which has been pronounced as backward since
decades.
2. To create an architecture focused on the advancement of specific professions
to advance India’s industry. Main focus is to create a new school of thought
that incorporated a more modern-style of teaching that allowed students to
participate in class discussions and debates in comparison to the traditional
style where students sat in lecture throughout the day.
3. To envision a new, modern school for India’s best and brightest.
4. To create an environment where education is a collaborative, cross-disciplinary
effort occurring in and out of the classroom.

NEED TO STUDY

N education institute is comprised of multi-disciplinary buildings with multi-disciplinary


functions rite from mass audio gathering spaces to like auditorium to small
casual/formal group discussion area to administrative block to residential units like
staff quarters and hostels. So in an institutional building one gets to study and explore
the architectural possibilities for multi-disciplinary buildings their nature, functionality,
organisational structure, etc.

METHODOLOGY

d. Collection of date from primary, secondary and tertiary sources
e. Analysis of data and drawing inferences to shape the design philosophy.
f. Case studies
g. To develop an architectural design of the educational infrastructure to cater
the educational needs of modern and postmodern society.

SITE ANALYSIS

a. Through analysis of proposed site at Arangabad.


b. Study climatic, geographic, demographic data of the region.
c. Study cultural and architectural heritage of the region.
d. Study the development control rules and norms in the region established by
local statutory authority.

about the extravagant topic.)

PLANING

a. Master planning at conceptual.


b. Identifying the different zone of campus like residential, academic, etc and
placing them as indicated by the inference of site analysis.
c. Development of conceptual master plan to a fully developed one
d. Conceptual building planning.
e. Integration of landscape with built-up environment.
f. Internal connectivity and free circulation inside the campus.
g. Vegetation and developing micro climate.

CHOICE OF SELECTION

The main purpose behind the selection of this topic is personal interest in designing a
campus with multidisciplinary building in one single campus bounded by one single
design language where the flow of connectivity among building, activities,
landscape & build up environment is established by means of efficient design.
