PALU, CENTRAL SULAWESI (VOA) -
The Trans Sulawesi highway that connects Central Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi in Lembo
Subdistrict, North Morowali Regency since Thursday afternoon (20/6) is reportedly unable to be
crossed by vehicles due to flooding due to overflowing rivers. This condition forces road users,
both private vehicles, public vehicles and goods transportation from distant places; forced to
spend the night in a vehicle parked on the roadside, as well as an open field, waiting for the flood
to recede.
Floods also submerged a number of four-wheeled vehicles that had not been saved to a safer
place because they were in the front line when the water level continued to increase.
One Police SSK Applied to Secure Road Users & Evacuation
Contacted by VOA, Chief of Police of Morowali AKBP Resort, Dadan Wahyudi, said that
flooding due to overflowing of several rivers helped to soak the body of the road for one
kilometer, with water levels above one meter. One unit at the level of the Morowali Police Resort
was deployed to ensure security of road users and to carry out evacuation activities for residents
affected by the flood.
"While it still can't cross that for the Korompeeli area because the water level has reached a
height of one meter more, every adult. So it hasn't crossed the Trans Sulawesi road, "explained
AKBP Dadan Wahyudi by telephone.

rafts and boats. So far there are no data on the exact number of people who have been forced to
flee. However, the local BPBD said that there were at least 100 houses flooded.

"The refugees are now the team from the BPBD while they are evacuating at the location and I
will give further information. So we use very limited equipment. We need track transportation
like that rubber boat. We at the North Morowali BPBD don't have rubber boats yet, "Darman
Bada said.

Water Surface Continues to Rise Because Besides Heavy Rain, Rivers also Overflow

Ivan Tagora, a local journalist, said the flood was caused by the overflowing of the Tambalako
River and a number of other small rivers, following heavy rains since early Thursday. Water
levels continue to increase since 10 am It was reported that hundreds of houses in seven villages
in Lembo and Lembo Raya sub-districts were affected by floods, namely Korompeeli village,
Kumpi village, Korowou village, Beteleme village, Ronta village, Petumbea village and
Pontangoa village.

"The flood from around 10 o'clock began to rise. The rising water is caused by overflowing the
Tambalako river plus small rivers around it, "Ivan said.

Residents whose homes were submerged in floods have fled to a safe place such as in the Wita
Mori field in Lembo sub-district, along with road users from the direction of Palu and Makassar
who cannot continue their journey towards Morowali Regency and to Southeast Sulawesi

Note Mbah Rono About The Tangkuban Parahu
Mountain That Erupts Suddenly

TRIBUNJOGJA.COM - Tangkuban Parahu Mountain erupted on Friday (7/26/2019) at 15.48

WIB.

From the press release of the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG),
the ash column height was observed ± 200 m above the peak (± 2,284 m above sea level).
The eruption that afternoon seemed to have taken place suddenly, which surprised the public.
Even so, volcanologist Surono or familiarly called Mbah Rono noted a number of other things.

"Every time there will be an incident, there are signs," Surono said through a telephone
connection. "There are many natural signs that can be observed, including also if there will be a
volcanic eruption. People say animals will come down from the peak, that's all signs," he added.

According to him, these signs make the volcano monitored. The body in charge of the volcano
will monitor and observe how the mountain behaves in order to determine what activities occur.

"I finally handled 2013. That is not normal either," Surono said. "Although, I often don't get
along with the tour manager there. But for me it's not a problem, (because) it's better to provide
umbrellas when the sky looks cloudy," he added analogous to the state of Tangkuban Parahu.

For him, the signs of the eruption were like clouds that looked cloudy. He reminded the public to
always prepare mitigation to avoid undesirable things.
"It's better to bring umbrellas even if there is no rain, rather than not carrying an umbrella as
soon as it blames blaming parents or friends not reminding," he explained still using the analogy
of rain and rain. "So, every mountain will erupt, there must be signs.

Want to be clear or unclear. Therefore there are experts to explain what is not clear, "said
Surono. Note for Tourism in Tangkuban Parahu Surono also highlighted how Tangkuban Parahu
became a reliable tourist destination in West Java, even in Indonesia. He regretted that, although
it was a mainstay tourism but mitigation on the mountain not yet a priority.

"Tangkuban Perahu is a mainstay tourist destination for West Java, for Indonesia as well. This
must guarantee that mitigation works well," said Surono.
