Hello, my name is Nisa Akmalia and you can call me Nisa.

I was born on 27 th Febuary

1997, so I’m 20 years old right now. I’m in the sixth semester at STTN BATAN (Sekolah Tinggi
Teknologi Nuklir-Badan Tenaga Nuklir Nasional). And I graduated from SHS 1 Pati. It was a great
time, when I had gone to Japan 5 years ago.

Everything started since I was in elementary school. When I like Naruto and I wanted to
meet him. Just like Naruto, I’m not very smart. We just have a dream and a strong desire. I
started learning Japanese by myself, until I found a small japanese languange institution a year
later. It feels like I’m chasing on my dream, I participated in various competition and failed
repeatedly. Until at last I’m heading on my biggest initial dream 5 years ago.

I went to college and I have decided to choose STTN BATAN, with it’s nuclear research
reactor. Japan has very advanced technology, as well as it’s nuclear reactor. More than 50% of
the electrical energy supply in Japan comes from nuclear reactors. I would love to learn it and I
hope it will be my way of being able to return to Japan.

Indonesia is facing the same problem every year. Indonesia’s GNP in 1997 was as high
as Japan and Korea, but currently, when GNP of Japan and korea have already risen
considerably high, the Indonesia’s GNP still not much different than the GNP 20 years ago.
Which one of the things that affect the rate of GNP increment is the availability of energy. As
we know, Indonesia is the largest archipelago with a population of the most populous no 4 in
the world, therefore the energy required is very large. And until now Indonesia still rely on
fossil fuel which its availability is inverserly proportional to the increase of human needs.
Moreover, Indonesia still using charcoal as a major power plant which produce fly ash and flu
gas as its residues that is harmful to health.

There are a few solutions I would like to offer in the future. I want to introduce nuclear
as one of the power plant in Indonesia. By using nuclear power, we will need 33 tonnes of
uranium ore to produce 1000 MeV energy and will last approximately 5 years without giving a
negative impact to the environment continuously. A much smaller amount compared to
2.100.000 tonnes charcoal to produce the same energy. But I’m not saying that nuclear is the
best solution to overcome the shortage of energy in Indonesia. Every region have their own
potential to fulfill their energy needs. Such as wind power plant for a region with high wind
intensity and water power plant for a region with high intensity of river flowing.

But to realize that, that will take quite a long time, while charcoal power plants continue
to operate and generate hazardous residues (fly ash and flu gas). For those matter, I offered a
solution to process those residue, which contained harmful materials such as potassium, sulfur,
etc. Which is actually the raw material of the fertilizer. I’m studying about it now, so in the
future I can overcome one of our nation problem.

At least that’s what I think and I learn now. I’m learning to make it all better. Do little
things to make a change. Many of the policies have done to overcome the shortage of energy,
such as the construction of a nuclear power plant that was rejected by the society. Everyone
should indeed have different thoughts, but all what we want is to shared prosperity . I’m trying
to make one vision and understanding of Indonesian people. Tell people around me not to
litter, tell them about nuclear and explain about our energy needs. It looks simple, but a great
thing starts from simple things.

I like Japan, but I love my own country. With my ability to speak Japanese and knowledge
in engineering, I want to go back there and learn a lot of things there. So, in the future, I could
make Indonesia get better like Japan. The Japanese are very good at preserving their culture
while also advance in their technology. Their perfection on doing both is just like a dream for
me. The combination of diverse culture, natural resources and wildlife diversity with an
advanced technology, prosperity and solidarity, will form Indonesia as good as Japanese.

Now, I just an undergraduated student who continues to learn and do simple things to
change the environment. In the future I will be someone who realize the dream of many people
for a better life by bringing solutions to environmental issues that haven’t been resolved.

Our dreams are always high in the sky, It’s scary that they might not come true, but we
still continue to chase them. With a speed fast enough for us to almost reach the vast sky, no
matter what difficulties we may face, will it be a strom or a black rain. Because dream is not
about whether it will come true or not but, it is a way of life.
