Research Title: Determining The Effectivity of Potato (Solanum Toberosum) peel and
Acacia Bark Wood as an Alternative Biofuel

Research Adviser: Mrs. Lea Figueroa

A. Rationale
The fossil fuels are the main energy source in the world. But due to arsing of
worldwide problems such as environmental pollution, global warming and increasing of
population, these led to the finding of environmentally friendly, renewable and
sustainable energy by government, industrial and energy sectors. Biofuel is introduced
but due to the expensive cost of agricultural products used in different countries, this
study comes to make an alternative biofuel using potatobpeel and acacia bark wood—2
good sources rich in ethanol that costs very less.

B. Research Goals/Expected Outcome

1. To produce cheaper and effective biofuel
2. Limitless/Fast producing

Hypothesis
If potatobpeel which is a phenolic composition of 80% methanolic extracts and
Acacia bark can supply a beneficial fuel.
Procedure
- Collection and Identification of the plants 200 grams of potato peels will be collected at
wet market specifically at Guadalupe Nuevo Talipapa and Acacia bark at Barangay
Cembo and will be taxonomically authenticated by a taxonomist at National Museum in
Manila

Preparation of Plant Extract

- The potato peel and acacia bark will be washed with running tap water and will be
grind turning it powder add water and cooks it with 32 (degrees ayusin mo toh) on a pot,
when it is liquefied put it in a container for fermentation process.

Biofuel Test
- The Department of Science and Technology will be our testing center to determine the
effectiveness of the biofuel.

Data Analysis
The best way to compare the efficiency of the alternative biofuel and
commercial biofuel, bargraph is the best choice for it. By using the bar graph method, it
can show the effectivity of alternative biofuel, it can determine the best ratio for an
effective biofuel over different trials.

Risk and Safety

The risk in this study is the tendency of spoiling of a newly cooled powderized
potato peel and acacia bark wood. To prevent this kind of incident, researchers should
wear thick pot holder and apron. This safety items will help the researchers to avert
them from being burned.

Fermentation
- The mashed potato and grind acacia bark is heated to about 30-60 mins during time
temperature, after the solution is cooled down from 30-35° C we will be adding 2 g in
dilated mash prepared.
