“Multimedia Elements”

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson the Grade 10 T.L.E- ICT students should be able
to:
a. Identify the different Elements of Multimedia.
b. Perform and identify on how essential to have the elements of multimedia in
making a presentation.
c. Form sound judgments or critics with the performance of others.

II. Subject Matter:

“Multimedia Elements”

Reference: Computer Assisted Learning (2008) Experiencing ICT: Digital Arts 1.

Pp.5-8.

Resources needed: Computer, projector, cut-out letters

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Preparation/Motivation
 Good afternoon Ma’am!
 Good afternoon class!
 We’re great!
 How are you today?

 It’s good to hear that!

 Today, we will be learning new lesson.

I guess you are all interested to learn
today.
 1,2,3,4…1,2,3,4…
 I have prepared some activities for
you. This time I will group you into 4.
Start counting!

 The envelop that I have given to you  Yes, Maa’am!

contains instructions for you to do. I
will just give you 10 minutes to
prepare. Is that clear?

 (Giving the tasks)

 Group1
- Do a “pantomime”. Pantomime is a
performance using gestures and body
movement without words. (Situation:
Your whole family will go for a travel
around the Philippines. You all
fascinated and enjoyed every views
and sceneries you have seen.)Make it
short.
 Group2
- You are task to have a short
conversation. For example, you and
your group mates will talk about the
current administration in the Republic
of the Philippines or about your
political views. Every member must
have a line in the conversation. When
you will present your performance, do
not make the audience facing you.
 Group3
- You are task to have a short role play.
You will set up a situation(any
situation will do)
 Group4
- Your task is to have a short aerobic
exercise. Make your classmate
participate in the exercise. Before
performing, you have to tell them why
there is a need for them to exercise.
One must act like a zumba instructor.
While doing the exercise, let them
follow you saying “ I need to exercise
because…….”

 Before you will perform, I need you to  Yes, Ma’am!

be attentive and observe every
performance because after, I will ask
you questions. Is that clear?
 (Performing)
 Let’s start with the group 1- group 4
B. Presentation/Discussion

 What can you say about the  Students: I can say that they perform very
performance of Group 1? well but it’s really a barrier for me to
understand more about their performance
because of the lacking of sounds.

 We can understand what they are saying

 Very good! How about the but we could hardly figure out what they
performance of group 2, what have are doing.
you observe?

 Very good observation! In the group 3,  Ma’am, I can say that the performance of
what can you say? group 3 is more understandable compare
to the group1 and group2 because we can
see them on what they are doing and in
the same time we can hear them on what
they are talking about.

 Thank you for that good observation.  I have observed that, they let us do in
And now let’s proceed to the group4. what they are doing. So, it’s more efficient
What have you observe? to us to sink in the idea that they want us
to know that we need to exercise.

 Very good observation class! Let’s give

a hand to ourselves!

C. Lesson Proper

 Now sit up straight and we will now

start our class.

 According to a Computer Technology

research in 1993,

“People only retain 20% of what they

see and 30% of what they hear. But
they remember 50% of what they see
and hear, and as much as 80% of what
they see, hear, and do simultaneously”

 What do you think does this means?  Ma’am, I think this means that people
tend to have a highest retention of
something if the multimedia over pass the
80% memory retention.

 Very good! An effective multimedia

application should not only reach the
20% attention of the people, but
rather, should overpass the 80%
memory retention of individuals
through the proper use and integration
of the different elements of
multimedia.

 Please read the next slide.  The integral elements of multimedia:

-Text
-Graphics/Images
-Sounds
-Animation
-Videos

 So, that are the integral elements of  I think, text is the words of something
multimedia. First is “text”. What is written.
text?

 Yes, it is something that is written. But,

text is one of the basic elements of
multimedia that:

- conveys information to the audience.  Student: Ma’am, I think multimedia are

-tells stories and describes things like movie, video and etc.
-interprets graphics and charts
-informs people about an event  Multimedia- is any kind of
-tells something about a person communication that uses more than
one media type at a time.

 The next element of multimedia is the  Student: Graphics/images mean

“graphics/images”. What are picture you seen.
graphics/images?

 Yes, very good! In multimedia,  Ma’am, static means something that is

graphics/images are part of the visual not moving.
presentation material. It displays
information graphically, which cannot
be expressed in letters and words.
However, there are different types of
graphic. The first type is called “Static
graphic”. What do you mean by static?

 That’s right! It is something that is not

moving. Static graphic includes still
images or graphics with no movement
at all. These graphics are mostly drawn
by hand or by using a stylus.

 The next type of multimedia graphic is

called animated graphic. Animated
graphic is the collection of static
graphics applied with movement. This
type of graphic involves a sudden
change in the position, angle, or form
of a drawing over a period of time.

 And then the third type is called  Student: It think Ma’am, it means that
conceptual graphic. What do you mean it is represented by something.
by conceptual?

 Very good, because conceptual graphic

used to explain a concept, an idea, a
theory, or a relationship and this
includes charts, graphs, diagrams,
figures and tables.

 And the last type the screen shots or

screen grabs. These can be termed as
captured images, which is basically the
method of grabbing an image
displayed on the window of the
computer.

 So, those are the types of multimedia

graphics.

 The third element of multimedia is  Student: Ma’am, I think sound is

“Sounds”. What is sound? something you can hear.

 Yes, it is! Sound is the third most

important component of a multimedia
presentation is the sound. It extremely
efficient way of delivering information
and it also adds excitement and
interactivity to the page or
presentation.

 The fourth element of multimedia is

the “animation”.

 Animation is the interactive

component of a multimedia
presentation. It involves movements of
characters, pictures, objects, and even
text over a calculated time. On the
hand, animation has its different form
and the first one is the “Software
Simulations”

 Software simulations is a form of

animation that based on the use and
manipulation of a particular software,
tool, or machine which are skill-based
and technical in nature.

 Next, Social simulations or role plays.

Typically used in soft skill-based
courses to enable students to learn
strategies that require the use of
reasoning, intuition, or perception to
solve problem and help them reflect
on their progress.

 Then, Virtual reality. This one is the

most popularly used animations today,
which specializes in creating a
computer-generated environment of a
real or imaginary system and enables
users to perform operations on a
virtual system using standard or
specialized device.

 And lastly, the video simulation. It uses

videos to teach the users on doing
specific activities such as playing
games, dancing, or cooking.

 The last element of multimedia is the  Student: Video is recording visuals.

“videos”. So, what is video?

 That’s right! Video is one of the most

challenging contents of multimedia.
Why? Because video clips may contain
some dialogue, sound effects, and
moving pictures.

 So, those are the elements of

multimedia.

D. Application
 In this juncture, I want you to be with  Group1. Discuss with your group on
group earlier. I have prepared a task why “text”, as an element of
for you to accomplish. In a count of 10 multimedia is important in making a
you must be in your respective group presentation. Do this in 10 minutes.
now. Go! 1,2……..10!  Group2. Discuss with your group on
why “Graphics/Images”, as an element
of multimedia is important in making a
presentation. Do this in 10 minutes.
 Group3. Discuss with your group on
why “Sounds”, as an element of
multimedia is important in making a
presentation. Do this in 10 minutes.
 Group4. Discuss with your group on
why “Videos”, as an element of
multimedia is important in making a
presentation. Do this in 10 minutes.
 After 10 minutes, each group must
present on what they have discussed
with their group.

E. Generalization

 How did you find the activity?

 So, what are the Elements of
Multimedia?
-What is Text?

-What is “Graphics/Images”?

>What are the types of Graphics?

-What is “Sounds”?

-What is Animation?

>What are the forms of animation?

What is “Videos”?

 Why these elements are essential in

making a presentation?

IV. Assessment/Evaluation

Test I. Identification:

1. These are still images usually drawn using a stylus.

2. It is the interactive element in multimedia applications.
3. It is characterized by its form, texture, line, and dimension.
4. These are videos, which intend to teach the users in doing a certain activity
5. It is a type of image used to explain an idea or a theory.

Test II. Essay

 Why there is a need to have the integral elements of multimedia in

making a presentation?

V. Assignment/Agreement
 Study your lesson because we will be having a quiz next meeting.
