Causal Argument
The discussion of medical marijuana seems to be a topic that everyone has a strong
opinion on. There are many people that say that medical marijuana is just a way to get the states
to legalize marijuana in general, if people have that mentality it could be affecting the people that
can really benefit from it. Medical marijuana can be beneficial to a wide variety of people
dealing with conditions that regular medication might not be as effective. This issue deserves
more attention so it can inform the people on what they are voting for. The patients that can
benefit from medical marijuana are the ones that will be suffering. A big reason why people
voted against is because they believe that the patients will have that “high” effect caused by
THC. All the patients will be using is a component called CBD which has little to no THC. The
Texas House of Representatives are the people that need to pass the bill that medical marijuana
should be available to patients who suffer from other conditions besides intractable epilepsy. The
house should consider people who suffer from chronic pain or PTSD along with other symptoms
that could be calmed with CBD. Some of the challenges that might come up while preparing my
argument might be that people will see it as a drug and addictive to the patient. To back up my
stance I plan to use research on the states that have legalized marijuana and the benefits. The
major stakeholders would be the house of representatives that would be reading any type of bill.
Some of the alternatives perspectives could be that the general public would bid to have it
legalized for recreational use. The sources that I used tells us that Texas allows medical

marijuana for only severe epilepsy while a pro con website and a blog from the Harvard health
publishing shows us that it can also be beneficial for anyone in chronic pain including the
elderly.
