VISIT
As management students, we need to know about different industries, to keep ourselves
updated about how they function, how they manage their business operations, how do they
manufacture, price, promote them after distribution, how they identify and meet their
customer’s needs and demand etc., and industrial visits serve as easy means to understand all
this. Industrial visit is a part of the educational tour which provides students with an
opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment
practices.

An industrial visit to Mother Diary, Yelahanka, Bangalore was organised on May 10, 2019 for
the students of Management studies department (MBA). The students were accompanied by
two faculty members (Mr Lokesh & Dr. Smita). We left college premises around 9:00 am
morning and reached the industry at 11:15 am. After reaching the plant we were welcomed by
plant in-charge. He showed us how the milk from various tankers is filled into the plant
through motors. He also told us about the working & vision of the company. He gave a brief
introduction about Cleanisation, Homogenisation, Standardisation, Pasteurisation & many
more information. This was a great way to learn about the milk production process in such a
renowned plant and to get exposure about the industrial conditions. We learned about how
milk is collected from corporate farmers, strictly undergoes 23 quality control tests (mainly
comprises of adulterants, temperature, taste, fragrance & weight). Then how this processes milk
is transported using thermally isolated milk tankers, and how of these were installed with
wireless GPS systems to get alerts in case of emergency conditions.

Followed by we got a chance to visit the factory and various sections such as milk powder, ice
cream section, packing section, outlet of the plant and physically see the functioning of the
plant. The Students were shown some adulterant tests, cleaning of milk transport tankers &
large SILO containers. They gave the information about importance of milk (mainly for
teenagers & working class) and its composition, about all the milk varieties (token, toned, full
cream & skimmed milk) based on its fat and SNF (Solid non-fat) and how these are to be used
by different age group people. They took us to a room where fully automatic human operated
cleanser, homogeniser and pasteuriser machines were operating.

Finally on the completion of tour, the appetite was duly taken care with some refreshments.
