For Immediate Release:

Clerk of Courts Employment Suit against Aftab Pureval Settled

Nearly a year after she initially filed her lawsuit against Aftab Pureval, Brittney Heitman today
dismissed the suit after Aftab Pureval agreed not to attempt to enforce a non-disparagement clause
that kept Brittney Heitman from being to speak out about the circumstances of her termination by
Aftab Pureval during his “Political House Cleaning” when he initially took office.

In the course of the litigation (Heitman v. Pureval, et al., Hamilton County Common Pleas Court
Case No. A1804561), it was discovered that Aftab and his politically allied private attorneys
crafted legally questionable termination agreements, bypassing the County Prosecutor’s career
staff and the Hamilton County Commissioners. As a result, Brittney and other former employees
faced the risk of having their termination payments clawed back by the State Auditor.

“I am grateful to Denise Driehaus, Todd Portune, and Stephanie Dumas for cleaning up Aftab’s
mess by ratifying the agreements after the fact.

“I look forward to having my voice back, and being permitted to speak out about the political
nature of my dismissal and to be able to share my opinions on Aftab Pureval and his management
of the Office of Clerk of Courts,” said Brittney Heitman.

In dismissing the suit, Brittney has agreed to not seek any monetary judgment against Aftab or the
County, and is satisfied to have restored her right to speak out on matters of public interest.

Finney Law Firm is proud to have represented Brittney and appreciates the sacrifice she has
undertaken not only to restore her own rights, but to protect her former co-workers.
