PHILOSOPHY OF HUMAN
which we recognize as being of that
PERSON
 PHILOSOPHY-was coined by the Greek
Mathematician and philosopher named
Pythagoras.
- It comes from the two greek words
“phelien” means love and “sophia”
means wisdom.
Two kinds of Wisdom:
1. Divine wisdom
2. Human Wisdom
- It is the science of all things in their
ultimate cause through the aid of
human reason alone.
 BRANCHES OF PHILOSOPHY
a. Logic- the sicience of correct reasoning.
b. Philosophy of Human Person- the
science of the study of man in relation to his
own destiny, God, and his fellowmen.
c. Cosmology- the science of inanimate
objects.
d. Metaphysics-is the science of being.
e. Ethics- is the science of the morality of
human act.
f. Aesthetics- the science of art and beauty.
g. Psychology- the science of human
behavior.
h. Epistemology- is a science of the theory
of knowledge.
i. Social philosophy- is a science of
principles governing human relations.
j. Theodicy- the science of the study of God.
In their ultimate cause
 Goal- the aim or purpose to where should
the endeavor end.
 Cause- explains the accounts of something.
 Aristotle-was a greek Philosopher and
scientist. He discussed the four (4) kind of
cause.
4 kinds of causes:
1. Material cause- this refers to the
material compositon of an object.
2. Formal cause- is the term describing
the pattern or form which n prsent
makes into a particular type of thing,
particular type.
3. Efficient cause- this is equivalent to
that who/which causes change and
motion to start or stop.
4. Final cause- is defined as the
purpose, end, aim, or goal of
something.
Reason- is the capacity to make things sensibly
and consciously applyin logic, establishing and
verifying facts, and changing or justifying
practices.
 Phenemenology-comes from the Greek
word “phainomenon” which means the
appearing and “logos” which means study.
-It is a science or study of that which appears.
 Zwaenepoel (1974) -defines
phenemenology as a study of that which
appears as meaningful to conciousness in
living experience by means of direct
awareness.
Awareness connotes 3 things:
1. Noema- The object of our intention.
2. Noesis- The intentional act.
3. The concious self.
 Metaphysical Question- it requires an
answer that touches your being.
- It defines what you should do because you
are affected by the situation.
A question is a problem, from the root word
“pros” and “ballos”.
Pros means thrown and ballos means ball.
 The light- for every question, there is
always an answer. For every problem,
there is always a solution.
1. Reflection- an interiorization process where a
person needs to enter into himself.
2. Sayings- are philosophically inspired
thoughts.
3. Stories- an account of imaginary or real
people but with moral lesson.

 Phenomenological Method:

Theories of Existentialism:
 Man is a Subject
 Man is the source of his own action
 Man has feelings and emotion.
 Man is self-related and others related.
 Man is capable of transcendence, which
means man van go beyond what is actually
given.
 Man’s Existence is a “Thrown’’ Existence.
He is thrown in the world to exist.
 Man exists in the body. He needs to assert
himself through his own body.
 Man is intrinsically free.
 Man has to admit the fact of death-his own
death.
 Man is an open-ended entity. He is a box of
surprises.

Human body
- a dignified body because:
 Inherent with it is a dignity that needs to
be respected.
 Its body parts have unique function
through its senses.
 Has a mind capable of intellectual process.
- a component part of a person because:
 Body is the medium between the self and
the world.
 Body is not a mere object tagged with
material value.
 There is a symbiotic relationship between
body and soul.
