1. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COMPANY

Robert William Thomson (1822 - 1873) invented the actual first vulcanized
rubber pneumatic tire. Thomson patented his pneumatic tire in 1845, and his invention
worked well, but it was too costly to catch on.

That changed with John Boyd Dunlop (1840-1921), a Scottish veterinarian and
the recognized inventor of the first practical pneumatic (inflatable) tire. His
patent, granted in 1888, wasn't for automobile tires, however: it was intended for use on
bicycles.

Later Developments

 In 1895, Andre Michelin and his brother Edouard, who had previously patented a
removable bike tire, were the first to use pneumatic tires on an automobile. In
1911, Philip Strauss invented the first successful tire, which was a combination
tire and air filled inner tube. Strauss' company the Hardman Tire & Rubber
Company marketed the tires.
 In 1903, P.W. Litchfield of the Goodyear Tire Company patented the first
tubeless tire, however, it was never commercially exploited until the 1954
Packard.

 In 1904, mountable rims were introduced that allowed drivers to fix their own
flats. In 1908, Frank Seiberling invented grooved tires with improved road
traction.
 In 1910, B.F. Goodrich Company invented longer life tires by adding carbon to
the rubber.
 Goodrich also invented the first synthetic rubber tires in 1937 made of a patented
substance called Chemigum.

Indian Tyre Industry

Indian Tyre Industry has grown rapidly in last decades. Today it is about Rs. 9000
crore industry. The fortune of the tyre industry depends on the agricultural and industrial
performance of the economy, the transportation needs and the production of vehicles. The
size of Indian tyre industry is estimated at about Rs.14250 crore comprising 43 players
with installed capacity of over 655 lacks tyre. The 10 large tyre companies account for
over 95% of the total production. The Indian tyre industry has witnessed a CAGR of 7.7
per cent over the last decade. The demand and growth for the tyre industry depends on
primary factors like overall growth, agricultural as well as industrial production and
growth in vehicle demand. It also depends on the on secondary factors like infrastructure
development and prevailing interest rates.

The Indian tyre industry is two tiered; Tier I players (top 5 tyre companies),
account for over 80% of industry turnover and have a well diversified product mix and
presence in all three major segments, i.e., replacement market, original equipment
manufacturers (OEM's) and exports. Tier

II companies are small in size, mainly concentrating on production of small tyres

(for two/ wheelers, etc.), tubes &flaps and the replacement market. Tyre industry is
highly raw material intensive, with raw material costs accounting for 70 per cent of the
cost of production.

The export market for India has been predominantly to the USA that accounts for
nearly 30% of exports from the country. Apart from that India exporting tyre in more
than 50 countries. The main threat to the industry is the price of its raw materials, most of
which are petroleum by products. Carbon, synthetic rubber and nylon tyre cord are
offshoots of petrochemicals. Thus, the future of the industry will swing with the supply of
crude oil.

In the domestic market, tyre manufacturers are expected increasingly focus on expanding
their dealership networks & explore possibilities of tie ups among themselves to penetrate
the growing customer base. They are also likely to pursue innovative measures (Such
as "dial a tyre service and road shows) to improve customer awareness. Overall Indian Tyre
Industry is enjoying the fruits of more sales in replacement market when the input cost is
comparatively lower. Since commercial vehicles replace tyres twice a year, we have
received the full impact of the price rises affected during the first and second quarter of the
last year.

6. RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCESS

Recruitment forms the first stage in the process, and which continue with selection
and case with placement of the candidates. Recruitment makes it possible to acquire the
number and type of people necessary to ensure the continued operation of the organization.

MEANING AND DEFINITION

In simple terms requirement is understood as a process for searching and obtaining applicants
and obtaining applicants for jobs, from amount the available recruits.

REQUIREMENT PROCESS

1. Planning

2. Strategy Development

3. Searching

4. Screening

5. Evaluation and control

Planning

A basic management function involving formulation of one or more detailed plans to achieve
optimum balance of needs or demands with the available resources. The planning process (1)
identifies the goals or objectives to be achieved, (2) formulates strategies to achieve them, (3)
arranges or creates the means required, and (4) implements, directs, and monitors all steps in
their proper sequence

Strategy development

Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and

making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. It may also extend to
control mechanisms for guiding the implementation of the strategy

Searching

The police searched the woods for the missing boy. She searched his face for some sign of
forgiveness, but it remained expressionless.

Screening

The evaluation or investigation of something as part of a methodical survey, to assess

suitability for a particular role or purpose

Preliminary interview

A preliminary interview can possibly result in a "no" decision, but is not able to result in a
final "yes" decision. So this is an interview to reduce the number of candidates, but not yet
decide on which candidate to make an offer to.

Selection test

A process resulting in the survival of those individuals from a population of animals or plants
that are best adapted to the prevailing environmental conditions. The survivors tend to
produce more offspring than those less well adapted, so that the composition of the
population is changed

PRODUCT LINE, LENGTH, WIDTH, DEPTH

Product Line

A product line is a group of related products under a single brand sold by the
same company. ... Companies often expand their offerings by adding to existing product
lines, because consumers are more likely to purchase products from brands with which
they are already familiar.

MEANING OF PRODUCT WIDTH

The products a business produces separated into different categories; a large
conglomerate business may have products in a variety of categories. For example, a large
soft drink manufacturer's product width would consist of its soft drink brands in one
category and its snack food brands in another category.

12. VITAL INFORMATION RELATED TO SPECIFIC

INDUSTRY

If they sell the target given by the company with in the time, the company will credit
some amount as a reward to the dealer.

Apart from the CEAT TIRES Dealership they have some different varieties of
product though they sell CEAT TIRES , well they sell different brand tires i.e TVS,
MRF,JK Etc ,

Apart from the TIRES they usually sell tubes of different brands

They have involved in different business sectors i.e Hotel ( CHANDRAMOHAN

HOTEL ), many liquor shops , different service industry

Difference between Tube and Tubeless Tires.

Tubeless Tube type

The inner tube is integral within the tyre, Components: Tyre, Tube with Valve and

known as Inner liner. The valve is Rim.

permanently fixed to the rim. THE

ASSEMBLY IS AIRTIGHT.

In case of a puncture, loss of air is very Instant air leakage after getting

slow, since air can escape only through the punctured. The air under pressure finds a

narrow gap made by the penetration of a way between the tube, tyre and through

nail. the rim hole.

VULCANIZATION OF RUBBER:

Vulcanization or vulcanization is a chemical process for converting natural rubber

or related polymers into more durable materials by the addition of sulfur or other equivalent
curatives or accelerators. These additives modify the polymer by forming cross-links
(bridges) between individual polymer chains. Vulcanized materials are less sticky and have
superior mechanical properties. The term vulcanized fiber refers to cellulose that has been
treated in a zinc chloride solution to cross-link the cellulose fibers.

Although curing of rubber has been carried out since prehistoric times, the modern
process of vulcanization, named after Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, was not developed until
the 19th century, mainly by Charles Goodyear. Today, a vast array of products are made with
vulcanized rubber, including tires, shoe soles, hoses, and conveyor belts. Hard vulcanized
rubber is sometimes sold under the brand name Ebonite or the generic zed former brand term
"vulcanite", and is used in making articles such as clarinet and saxophone mouth pieces,
bowling balls, and hockey pucks.

PSI- Pounds per square inch.

Pounds per square inch absolute (psia) is used to make it clear that the pressure is
relative to a vacuum rather than the ambient atmospheric pressure. Since atmospheric
pressure at sea level is around 14.7 psi, this will be added to any pressure reading made in air
at sea level.

Air Pressure

The manufacturer's optimum or recommended tire pressure for your car on a sticker in
the door jam, or in your owner's manual. Some models even place the stickers on the trunk
lid, in the console or on the fuel door. Recommended pressure is usually between 30 and 35
PSI.

Tyre balancing:

When tires are fitted to wheels at the point of sale, they are measured again on a
balancing machine, and correction weights are applied to counteract the combined effect of
the tire and wheel unbalance. After sale, tires may be rebalanced if driver perceives excessive
vibration.

SHARNBASVA UNIVERSITY-ITPR Page 33

Organization Study on Ceat Tyres

Tyre alignment:

Alignment refers to an adjustment of a vehicle's suspension — the system that

connects a vehicle to its wheels. It is not an adjustment of the tires or wheels themselves. The
key to proper alignment is adjusting the angles of the tires which affects how they make
contact with the road.

Maintenance of tyre

Inflation Pressure

• "Under inflation" or "Over inflation" on the tyre tend to impact tyre life, vehicle handling
and safety. There are two factors with weight distribution of the vehicle. One is contact patch
and other linked to the tyre wear. This result in heat buildup/tyre temperature and thus loss of
tyre life, premature tyre removals, increased rolling resistance and fuel consumption.

• "Under Inflation" is more common than over inflation. Tyre users are not always conscious
about maintaining or matching tyre pressure to the loads carried.

• In pneumatic tyre the "Air carries the load". The best tyre performance and lower tyre
CPKM are obtained by maintaining correct tyre inflation pressure.

• It is important to remember that the total weight (GVW) carried may not exceed the
registered laden weight (RLW) or vehicle passing weight, but one side of the truck or one
axle may be severely overloaded due to improper distribution of the load in the pay load
platform or loading area.

• Improper load distribution overloads the tyre(s). This condition combines with high speed ,
long hauls and load transfers result in tires wearing fast and premature removal of tires

Speed

• Excessive high speeds results in increased tyre running temperature. As the rubber gets
heated up its modulus (stiffness) gets reduced.

• Rubber being a good non conductor of heat the residual heat is retained causing increased
tyre wear and separation of components.

SHARNBASVA UNIVERSITY-ITPR Page 34

Organization Study on Ceat Tyres

Wheel alignment and wheel balancing after proper time intervals (normally after every 5000-
kms)

Size Of Tire

Tire Width is the width of the tire measured in millimeters from sidewall to sidewall.
The first three-digit number in the tire size refers to the tire width. For instance, in a size
P185/40R17 tire, the width is 185 millimeters.

Aspect Ratio is the ratio of the height of the tire's cross-section to its width. The two-
digit number after the slash mark in a tire size is the aspect ratio.

Construction. The letter "R" in a tire size stands for Radial, which means the layers
run radially across the tire.

Wheel Diameter is the size of the wheel measured from one end to the other. It tells us
the size of the wheel that the tire is intended to fit. A size P185/40 R17 tire is made for a
wheel with a 17" diameter.
