FEMINISM

Feminism is the empowerment of women and since it relates to empowerment, gay

individuals also wanted their empowerment through showing pride and coming out to be
slowly accepted by our society. Gays aren’t also on men but there is existing gay that are
women who also support Feminism or is a Feminist. Therefore, in context with feminism
and the group's research topic, what the group can imply is that gays can truly feel the
discrimination that the women are enduring of women. Being left out and their battle of
uprooting their rights as gays are just some of their struggles in today’s time. Gay
individuals also want a take a part in the society wherein they can be fully accepted
without any conditions by our society.

Like feminism, Gays wanted to also uplift their rights as gays. The equality of the gay
community nowadays is a social phenomenon due to the fact that they are still being
continuously judged by the people, whether as a disgrace for the Catholic Church or a
rebellion because they are going against their professed faith. In relation with Feminism,
gay individuals also wanted to seek their rights and to raise awareness that everyone
should be treated equal regardless of their gender. Gays are also human beings that can
contribute to the betterment of the world. Gays are also perceived as weak since they are
most likely “feminine” in nature, do have feminine attributes, or has the ‘weak’ side. Saying
that women are weak and has no capabilities of doing work that is only for men can be a
total bias and against the idea of Feminism.

The vast issue with regards of discrimination of women and the LGBTQ+ Community are
leading us to many possibilities why advocacies, personalities, and campaigns are being
established and standing up for their rights, but still too inefficient to be recognized and
helped by our own government. Students are struggling for acceptance, desiring more
attention, and fight for the equality that they want all want a long time ago, but then again
hindered and for what they really deserved.
EVIDENCE 1
Feminism different to gays but similar in some ways
Gay men should understand the feminist’s ideas and causes because of some
commonality that they possess with the idea of gays in the society. It tells us that they are
most likely an ally. This means that Feminism should be supported by gay men in order
to succeed.

This explains that Gay individuals and feminists are of different ideas and gender but
almost the same of oppressors and problems. It means that in being gay and feminist,
they still seem to experience the same discrimination and harassment as of women. It is
also said that LGBT and Feminism are solely connected by his statement “When the
women’s rights movement succeeds, so will the LGBT movement. (Donnelly, n.d.)

EVIDENCE 2
Alliance of Gay men to Feminists
Since then there was an alliance of Feminists (lesbians) and those members of the LGBT
(gays) battling the people for homosexuality and of same-sex love making it a weapon for
patriarchy. Although a struggle for feminists since men call them as man-haters for
uplifting the rights of women, it doesn’t hinder gays for supporting feminism. This helps
gays for coming out since it is not only gay people who will support them but those of the
members of LGBT and Feminists. Even marginalized, they still sought for a role in the
political system.

EVIDENCE 3
“LGBT students in the Philippines are often the targets of ridicule and even violence,”
(Thoreson, 2017). Up to this point of time, Filipino LGBTQ+ Community members are
being discriminated by our fellow countrymen, pointing out that they are one of the
sources of the virus HIV or AIDS that can be questionable. “They say that the gays are
the main focus of HIV” (Jonas, 2017).

Philippines’ Department of Education has issued a regulation prohibiting bullying when it

comes to SOGI. But still, it is not yet passed. Some people in the congress are still
delaying this law. Yes, prohibition is one good motive, but the fact that it is evident to our
society, lawmakers and the academe must have concrete steps to make the rights of the
LGBTQ+ Community more viable.
