CHAPTER I
Introduction

Floor wax is a solution that has been used extensively since

centuries for floor care. While there are still several traditional
agents available in the market today, most people prefer
manmade and synthetic floor waxes that are comparatively easy
to apply.

The incredible amount of synthetic materials and chemicals

used in most waxes is worrisome to several eco-conscious
people. It is believed by some that such unnatural formulas can
lead to health problems or can damage living plants due to
daily exposure. As a substitute there are certain Eco friendly
materials that can be utilized instead. Linseed oil, beeswax,
carnauba wax, rosemary oil and several other natural waxes are
utilized to create alternative floor waxes.

There are a variety of things to keep in mind about the

ingredients used in making waxes. Every floor will react
differently to different agents. Also, waxes with synthetic or
chemical base will always be cheaper in comparison to other
floor finishes. Natural waxes are great for the environment but
cannot last for too long and are extremely hard to apply.
Natural waxes are also comparatively expensive. Certain kinds
of solutions are also not safe for fragile floors. Hence, it’s best
to leave the decision to the experts.
Background of the study

Floor wax is a great material for polishing floors, it has been

a friend and a trusted material for keeping floors shiny and
making it looks new. Floor wax is made from synthetic
materials According to Esmeralda Lee, Floor wax is a liquid
mixture containing water, polymer emulsions, film former,
preservatives and modifiers. These are all synthetic materials
which are expensive and also not good for the health and
environment. This research aims to aid the household users of
floor wax into using a much safer, natural, organic and
especially cheaper way of shining their floors. It is not only
cheap and natural but very efficient, it uses materials available
at home, and household users may make their own.

When maintained and applied properly floor waxes offer

high shine which is advantageous for both commercial and
business spaces. They can be used on just about any flooring
including concrete, ceramic, and vinyl. Floor waxes are sold as
finishing products from thousands of stores around the country
and are readily available to anyone who wants to use them.
They take care of high traffic areas and are created to resist
scratches and repel stains and abrasions. With the
advancement in technology, a variety of materials have been
developed to offer better results and floor care.
Statement of the problems and
objectives
This study aims to make the banana peel and candle as a
floor wax. It has specific questions to be answered:

 Can banana be an alternative source in making a floor wax?

 Can melted candle help to firm the floor wax?

Objectives as follows
 However, if you find buying ready-made floor wax
prohibitively expensive, it's possible to mix candle wax
and oil with banana peels to create a substance suitable for
use polishing your wooden floors. ... The researcher
therefore concluded that banana floor wax could be used
as an alternative source of commercial one.
 Heat the wax with a hair dryer to soften it. Blot up as
much wax as you can with paper towels, then rub with a
cloth soaked in a solution of half white distilled vinegar
and half water. Wipe clean with a soft, absorbent cloth.
Use an ice cube to harden the wax drippings, making
them brittle.
Hypothesis
It aims to create a product of floor wax which is cheaper and
could give the same quality which the commercial one could
give through banana. This step was made by the researcher to
make a floor wax out of banana peel: First, prepare the
ingredients such as banana peel, kerosene, candle and tin can.
It was melted in a low fire.
Significance of the study
This study can give benefits to the people especially to the
poor once, to have a good business and also to save money for
their other needs. Especially in school, it will give benefit to the
students as well as their parents to save money. It is also easy
and enjoyable to do.

The importance of this study is for us to find substitute

ingredients to take place over the dangerous ingredients that
may harm your health, the nature and the environment. It is
also important that we people to find another solution in the
issue of “Mother Earth Dying”
Scope and Limitation
This study is only limited for the investigation of banana
(Musa paradisiaca) used as alternative source for floor wax
making. The researcher chose this study for further
investigation if the banana can be an effective source for floor
wax.

Our Investigatory Project only focuses on making a

floor wax with banana peel as it’s ingredient. We would not be
focusing on other issues on floor waxes and it’s ingredients or
what Banana peels can do or what they have. Hence will be
focusing on what banana peels can do as an ingriedient to the
floor wax that we will be making.
Definition of terms

 Banana peel – A banana peel, also called banana skin in

British English, is the outer covering of the banana fruit.
Banana peels are used as food for animals, in water
purification, for manufacturing of several biochemical
products as well as for jokes and comical situations. ( Main
ingredient in making floor wax)

 Kerosene – A light fuel oil obtained by distilling

petroleum, used especially in jet engines and domestic
heaters and lamps and as a cleaning solvent.

 Candle – A cylinder or block of wax or tallow with a

central wick that is lit to produce light as it burns.

 Tin can - A tin plate or aluminum container for preserving

food, especially an empty one.
CHAPTER II
Review of related literature
BANANA is the common name for a fruit and also the
herbaceous plants of the genus Musa which produce the
commonly eaten fruit. They are native to the tropical region of
Southeast Asia and Australia. Today, they are cultivated
throughout the tropics.

Banana plants are of the family Musaceae. They are

cultivated primarily for their fruit, and to a lesser extent for the
production of fibre and as ornamental plants. As the bananas are
mainly tall, upright, and fairly sturdy, they are often mistaken for
trees, when the truth is the main or upright stem is called a
pseudostem, literally meaning "fake stem", which for some species
can obtain a height of up to 2–8 m, with leaves of up to 3.5 m in
length. Each pseudostem would produce a bunch of yellow,
green, or even red bananas before dying and being replaced by
another pseudostem.

Banana leaves are widely used as plates and for lining

cooking pits and for wrapping food for cooking or storage. A
section of leaf often serves as an eye-shade. In Latin America, it is
a common practice during rains to hold a banana leaf by the
petiole, upside-down, over one's back as an "umbrella" or
"raincoat". The leaves of the 'Fehi' banana are used for thatching,
packing, and cigarette wrappers.
Materials
 Kerosene

 Banana Peel
 Tin can

 Candle
Procedure
1. Prepare all the materials

2. Sliced the banana peelings into smaller pieces.

3. Boil the candle until it gets melted.

Stir it.
4. Put the kerosene in the tin can together with melted
candle.

5. Put the slice of banana peel in the tin can with

meltedcandle and kerosene.
6. Mix them every 5 minutes.

7. Gets some handkerchief and put it in the extra bottle and

start to put the mix ingredients and the handerkerchief
and squeeze it.

.
8. Wait until it become firm.

9. Put it in the tupperware or any container.

10. Flatten the floorwax.
CHAPTER III
Results and Findings
Floor waxing is essential to maintain the shiny gloss of
wooden floors. However, if you find buying ready-made floor wax
prohibitively expensive, it’s possible to mix raw wax crystals and
kerosene with banana peels to create a substance suitable for use
polishing your wooden floors. This home-made floor wax will
give a comparable shine and smoothness to that of commercial
products, and the oil in the kerosene counteracts the banana
peel’s stickiness to ensure the finished sheen isn’t tacky.
CHAPTER IV
Conclusion

Therefore we conclude that our product is Alternative

Source of Floorwax Making. The researcher conduct this study
due to economics crisis nowadays. It's aim to create a product of
floorwax which is cheaper and could give the same quality which
the commercial one could give through banana.
This home-made floor wax will give a comparable shine and
smoothness to that of commercial products, and the oil in the
kerosene counteracts the banana peel's stickiness to ensure the
finished sheen isn't tacky. Banana peels can be as useful as the
fruit themselves.
