In large cities, fast food chains have become very popular (Puerto Ricans,
2009). Traditions One tradition in Puerto Rico is how they name their children.
They go by their first, fathers last name, and then mothers last name. Usually,
they are both used when addressing people.

Culture

Puerto Rico’s culture is a lively mix of Taíno, African, and Spanish influences.
This fusion extends to almost every aspect of Puerto Rican life: our rich cuisine,
colorful arts and crafts, vibrant music, and traditional festivals.

Clothing

Traditional Puerto Rican clothing is predominantly Spanish in style, having


layers and heavy materials, such as wool. The guayabera shirt, also called the
Mexican wedding shirt, is a traditional piece of clothing still commonly worn in
modern times.

Musical instruments

Musical Instruments. Today, Puerto Rican musicians use stringed


instruments such as the violin and cello, and from the brass family,
the trumpet, trombone, and saxophone are very popular, as well as
several others.

Law #1 of August 4, 1952 of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico establishes


a full state holiday on July 25 of every year, to be known as Puerto Rico
Constitution Day. The holiday commemorates the day the Constitution of
Puerto Rico, approved on July 3, 1952, was signed into law by Governor
