Nature of Problem:
Air leakage through “Blow down valve” and frequent BDV failure.
Diagnosis:
Failure analysis revealed that the O’ring placed on the face of the plunger
shuttle used to give trouble in either of the following ways:
- O’ring totally coming out from its position in the groove of plunger
- O’ring gets mutilated or cut into 2 pieces due to hitting of the plunger
against sharp edge in BDV body during operation.
Corrective Action:
To resolve this identified failure, design of BDV’s plunger has been changed
from groove & O’ring to Teflon washer. To accommodate the changes done in
plunger, entire blow down valve is also changed. For easy understanding purpose,
picture and cross sectional views of old and new BDV are given below in the next
page.
This change in design has been implemented in all “Global series” machines
from fab number BLIS031990 onwards.
Field Correction:
Replace the complete “Blow down valve” assembly as & when air leakage
complaint arises.
