these crosspoints. Man is a crosspoint or point of intersection of certain lines of events on varied levels. These are: point of intersection of natural events, physical line of events, interpersonal, social, historical, and individual. THE INTERSECTION OF NATURAL EVENTS
The body is million years of old. It flows
from the presumption that the totality of the energy in the world (must) remains constant. Hence, the atom, the energy, the matter that compose the body all dates back from the origin of the universe (about 50 billion years old). Hence, we can say that: The first chordates emerged 700 million years ago. The first vertebrates emerged 500 million years ago. The first man appeared 250,000 years ago. THE PHYSICAL POINT OF EVENTS
From the first appearance of the first
man, implies the formation of the nervous system, the brain, and the body. Once polarised and organised, there came consciousness, forming the psycho-biological organism, we call MAN. In this crosspoint, man is composed of natural, chemical, and physical elements, and at the same time, a point of intersection of physical world of events. Thus, man becomes a conscious crosspoint of a conscious point of intersection. Being conscious implies being aware of the natural environment that brought him into these points of consciousness. being aware of his own limitations, but likewise.. being aware of his possibilities and potentialities. This crosspoint of consciousness implies capabilities of activities. Thus, man becomes the source of creativity. THE CROSSPOINT AT INTERPERSONAL LEVEL Psychological claim: human psychological personality is really a crosspoint of various personal relationship. One’s personality is determined by the relationship with the parents, brothers, peers, friends etc. A personality is a fruit of intersecting personal lines coming together. Thus, the differences of people are not only determined by the differences of their physical bodies, but rather on what constitutes the different types of point of intersection of personal line of events. This crosspoint is not on the physical sense anymore but on personal sense implying that man is a product of certain network or web of personal lines. THE SOCIAL POINT OF INTERSECTION
Being a conscious crosspoint one can
put together future lines of events or (even) separate personal lines of events. Man is a possible melting point and bond of personal lines of events. Man is a social product of social point of intersection of social events…
a product of many social traits, qualities,
and breed and characteristics in the past, which were all beyond our control.
Thus, these social points of intersection
create social habits and practices we call “CULTURE”. HISTORICAL POINT OF INTERSECTION Historical lines of events are beyond one’s control. As crosspoint of historical events, “we are what we are”; we are given a set of data (physical set of data, social set of data, interpersonal set of data, etc.) As a point of intersection of historical processes, we stand with a certain set of past and historical facts. As we become conscious of ourselves as historical products, we also become aware of the historical possibilities that we have.
Becoming aware of these limits as well as
possibilities of history shall become source of historical creativity. THE INDIVIDUAL’S POINT OF INTERSECTION (SELF) This is a point of intersection resulting to a unique individual with ideals, ultimate goals, and purpose in life.
Human personality which takes an existential
framework whereby his own person is included in some kind of permanent whole, permanent totality through transcendental or spiritual viewpoint. Though may be set by ideals of the past and perhaps, in the beginning blindly following them, in certain point of time, one becomes conscious of these ideals and finally make them more authentic, more personal and dependent on one’s own deliberate decision.
Thus, becoming conscious as a person of
meaning. This is what an existential task is- the highest level of point of intersection where one determines the meaning of his/her own personal life. We may be limited because of our given past, but because we are conscious individuals…
