Chart Patterns
The Chart patterns i will cover today, with the rules to follow to ensure the highest
probability of success, are patterns that i personally take and if you are a beginner i suggest
you back test then before apply them to your live trading.
FTR
An FTR or Failed To Return, is a candle pattern in trading. What this pattern shows is that
as price is in an up/down trend, price will push back and collect orders (causing a candle
close of the opposite direction) before continuing the current trend. Bullish

This is a Bullish FTR drawn with lines, not candles, essentially what this is a small pull back
in price to collect orders to trap sellers and gather more buyers before continuing up.

This is an FTR on a live chart, as you can see we had 3 bullish candles in a row, then a
small red candle (the FTR candle) and a er we continued the push up. How to enter on
this candle pattern is very simple, wait for a close of the next candle ABOVE the FTR candle
and then ride the momentum to the next zone. With a Stop Loss BELOW the wick of the
FTR candle.

A Bearish FTR is simple the opposite of the bullish FTR, price is in a downtrend and has a
single candle pull back that serves as a liquidity grab (order grab). And A er results in a
continuation of the downward move.

Above we have an example of a Bearish FTR on a candle chart. What you can see is that we
where in bearish momentum, created an FTR to collect orders and then furthered the
push to the downside. Entering on this would be just like the Bullish, We would seek
entries a er the bearish candle engulfing the FTR candle with a stop loss ABOVE the FTR
candle.
FTB
A FTB or a First Time Back, is essentially a move BACK to an FTR that was formed. What
this is is a manipulation play that is created by the market makers to trap people in the
wrong direction orders, and then continue price back in the overall momentum.
FTB Rules:
Stick with the trend

Price Must Create a Single FTR candle
Price Must Pull Far away from the FTR candle before coming back (10+ pips)
On the Retest, the Candle MUST close inside the FTR zone, and the next close OUT of
the zone.
If price moves away from FTR, then consolidates before coming back=INVALID.
Use TF 15m+
Place Stop Loss Below/Above FTR candle (including wick)
If on the FTR retest the candle Closes PAST the FTR zone=INVALID.

but later (usually a few hours) price came back and Retested that zone before rejecting
and continuing the initial move.

Here is a bullish FTB, which just simply means that we where in a bullish trend and created
it. This is a A- not an A+ set up. Still very good. So what we see here is an uptrend, then an
FTR ( i drew zone in) then we pushed away from that zone (25 pips) which is perfect. Then
over the next 1h we pulled back and had a bearish candle close directly in the zone, and
the next candle was a bullish outside of the zone, which is where we take entries. On this
set up a stop loss around 8 pips and a TP at the zone in which we initially moved from is
how i would approach this trade.

A Bearish FTB is the reverse of the bullish, price is in a downward momentum and creates
an FTR to collect orders to continue the move. Then price finds a support (usually a minor)
and pulls back to the FTR and when it rejects we look for sells back to that minor support
zone.

This was a very good setup. Price Created a very nice FTR, we pushed far away (25 pips)
pulled back to the FTR and closed inside the zone. Then we had a bearish engulfing, a er
that candle we look for entries. With our stop loss above the FTR zone (12 pips) and our
Take profit at the initial reversal (25 pips). Note: a er the initial target is hit, feel free to let
one position run.
RBR
A RBR or Rally Base Rally is a simple concept. Price is in bullish momentum, pushes up and
then creates a short consolidation or Base period, and a er that base period is over (the
base period is when we are collecting orders to fuel the next push) we get our second rally
stage. Bullish

Here, as you can see we are in bullish momentum, we have a bullish Rally, We then find a
base while collecting more orders. Then we break out of the base zone and continue to
phase 2 of the rally stage.

Here is a live example of Rally Base Rally. As you can see we had a strong bullish push,
then had a base. This base was actually creating Higher Highs and Higher Lows, better
allowing us to know we will continue into the second rally phase. On a RBR set up, when
looking for entries. If i am not already in entries prior to the base, we will wait for the base
to break and start the second rally phase, and place our stop loss below the lowest part of
the Base phase and look to take profit at the next zone.

A DBD is simple a reverse RBR, this is when price is in a bearish momentum and tanks,
then we find a base (which is price collecting orders) before then continuing the bearish
momentum.

Here is a live example of a DBD, price was in south momentum, created a base and then
furthered the tanking. Looking for entries here, first you could look at the green arrow.
Price was exhausting and entering a er the bearish candle could have been valid. OR you
could have entered a er the blue candle, which is the candle that broke out of the
consolidation box.

Overview: Today we will be talking about a critical point to understand when trading
candle sticks. What is the di erence between wick rejections and wick exhaustion?
The, or one of the, most common means of day trading is by using candle sticks. They are
critical to understand what price has done over a certain period of time. Unlike line charts,

they give you a FULL understanding of how low priced fell during a period, how high price

rose during a period, and the opens and closes of each specific time period.

Understanding how price reacted when trading outside of its open and close “body” is
very important to being able to understand how price is reactive to di erent price ranges,
news events, or times. There are two common types of wicks that we will look into and
discuss: wick rejections and wick exhaustion.

All of these examples have the same things in common: they are during o sessions, the

As we can see, in all examples of the exhaustion wicks, we tend to see the market in slow sessions and the market pulls away
slightly before continue prior direction in major sessions.
Conclusion:
To conclude, understanding the di erence between exhaustion and rejection wicks is

important. It boils down to rejections typically come during major sessions and cause
reversals while exhaustion tend to occur during slower sessions and lead to fake reversals.

Drawing Zones
A Teen Trader is an Educational site, Trade what you are

willing to lose.
Zones, when trading based o of technicals drawing zones

that are proper and as well placed as possible allow for the best
possible outcomes for trades. RULES FOR ZONES:

Include most of or the entire wick, if it is normal in size
(look below for examples)
Look for zones that had previous rejected resulting in a
big pip move
Zones With 1-2 rejections are ideal
The more the touches on a zone, the weaker it becomes
Change/Edit your zones o en (especially on lower
timeframe)
If your zone is broken, WAIT, if you don’t see what you like.
LET IT BE. DONT FORCE A TRADE.

Here are examples on 3 di erent timeframes with

reasoning, on how I Draw MY zones.
Daily Time Frame

Zones: When I first start my analysis I start on the daily. How I
draw those zones are shown above. I find points of high
rejection, I look for clear rejection areas, and I look for zones
with only a few touches (the strongest). Looking at the zones
above, why did I draw the bottom zones? because we had a
double bottom there (with 200+ pip rejections each time)
which to mean is a sign of a strong zone. When drawing the
zone I drew,I drew it based o of the arrow. I draw it BELOW
the bodies of the candles, and include the entire wick. I
include the entire wick because, in this scenario, it is very
small and shows a zone for potential future liquidity grabs.
And as you can se we retested that zone a few weeks later
and it played out nicely. The top zone, I drew based o of the
massive rejection, resulting in hundreds of pips rejections. I
drew this zone NOT including the entire upper wick why?
because it was so long that it would have been an illogically
sized zone. I instead drew the zone the length of the previous
candles wick (candle with arrow). I do this because I want to
be logical, simple, and limit mistakes. Because if I had my
zone the entire length of the massive wick, I would be
holding a buy position and want to keep holding for the wick
fill because “a full zone move” when in reality I would like to
take a move simply to the zone I drew, because it will allow
the highest probability of success. 4h Time Frame
(https://ateentrader.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/4h-
EURUSD.png) How I Draw Zones: A er drawing my zones I
then will drop into the 4h timeframe. I do this because the
zones in the daily will be massive on the 1h and 4h etc. so
dropping down, adjusting, and in this case drawing
completely new zones Is key. On this 4h timeframe, I drew all
new zones, because price is not coming near the daily just
yet. What I drew here are zones in which I would scalp o of.
The top zone, I drew because, as you can see with the top le
arrow, we have had many wicks and a solid rejection move
from the zone. I drew the zone the thickness It is because, as
you can see, I made it the size of the wicks that have an
arrow to them. The bottom zone, as you can see is BELOW an
FTR candle, which as I mentioned in the FTR post (here
(https://ateentrader.com/chart-patterns- b- r/)), serves as a
place in which orders are set. Meaning to me that we can
place a zone here with the wick included, and wait for a
retest and rejection to look for a move. 1h Time Frame
(https://ateentrader.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/1h-
EURUSD.png) Unlike the 4h timeframe, on the 1h I kept the
same zones, for the most part. As I mentioned as you drop
time frames you will need to tweak them because candles
form and close di erently on smaller timeframes. Here, were
simple have the top zone draw based o the same top le
arrowed candles, which is drawn with all of the normal sized
wick included. And as you can see we later broke this upper
zone, and as I mentioned in the Rules, the more touches the
weaker (we had a lot of touches or near touches of the zone)
The bottom zones is drawn based o of the le arrow. why?
because as you can see, we initially rejected the zone, then
proceeded to break it and consolidate above it. Which serves
as a collection of orders, meaning when we come back into
the area, there will be orders still waiting there to get filled. I

What is Forex?
The Forex market or the Foreign Exchange is a market in
which a currency of one country is compared in value to
another country’s currency and is traded based o

speculation that one currency will gain or lose value over

another currency. On the other hand, to see how a specific
currency is doing you would look at the Index of that
currency.

Forex Pairs
In Forex, these comparisons are called “Pairs”, these pairs
are when 2 currencies are compared to one another in which
the first pair is the base currency and the second is the
quoted currency. The base currency is the currency that you
buy and the quoted currency is the one that you are 
comparing it to. For example, on USD/JPY you are using USD
(the base currency) to purchase JPY (The quoted currency).
The price that is being recorded on the pair is the amount
the Japanese Yen (JPY) that the USD can buy with $1, at the
time of these document 1 USD can buy 112 JPY.
How They Move
Forex pairs can move based on news that is from the country
of either pair. For instance, when Interest Rates were raised
all USDxxx Pairs went down, because the USD was worth
Less and could buy less of other currencies. And all xxxUSD
Pairs went up because that currency could now buy more
USD.
Major Pairs: Major Pairs are pair that are traded the most and
compare the biggest countries dollars and are traded the
most out of any pairs. Also, every major pairs contains the
USD.

Minor Pairs: Minor Pairs or “Crosses” are mainly pairs that do

not contain the USD but still compare other major economic
countries together.

As you may be able to tell, The United States Dollar (USD)

was by far the most paired currency and as you will be able
to see below it very well does, as it is attributed for over 75%
of all Distribution. The reason is the US has the world’s
largest economic system so it only makes sense to compare
the other currencies to the best, right?


Correlations: Some pairs are Inversely of directly correlated

in the Forex Market, meaning that some pairs move in the
same direction as another pair while some move the
opposite or mirrored and another pair.
Same Direction Movers:

EURUSD and GBPUSD
EURUSD and AUDUSD
EURUSD and NZDUSD
USDCHF and USDJPY
AUDUSD and NZDUSD
Mirrored Pairs:
USDJPY and XAUUSD (GOLD)
EURUSD and USDCHF
GBPUSD and USDJPY
USDCAD and AUDUSD
USDJPY and AUDUSD
GBPUSD and USDCHF
Forex Trading Hours:

Forex is a 24/5 Market, it is open from Sunday 5:00 pm EST to
Friday at 5:00 pm EST. This is possible because of trading
sessions. The market weeks begins with the opening in

Sydney, Australia at 5:00 pm EST (the Pacific Session), then
Tokyo, Japan opens at 7:00 pm EST (Asian Session), then the
London, England session opens at 3:00 am EST, and the New
York session opens at 8:00 am EST. Because of these overlaps
the forex market can be open 24 hours a day 5 days a week.
The Trading centers I mentioned are considered “Major
Trading Center” the other ones on this chart are “Minor
Trading Centers

The best time for trading specific pairs is in their own

session. For example, trading USDJPY will be best when
trading in New York session, GBPAUD will be best in the
London session, and EURUSD will be best when the London
Sessions. Another time that is best to trade is when sessions
are overlapping. For example, the time in which GBPUSD is
most volatile is when the London and New York sessions are
overlapping each other from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm EST.
As I stated the Forex market is a 24/5 market which means it
is not open on the weekend, and due to the reality that there
is still news that can a ect the economies on weekends there
are things called Gaps these gaps are the market jumping to
a certain price at the open due to something that happened
over the weekend, Like the French Election a for example.

How To Get Started In Forex

Getting started on the right foot is the first step to any
successful venture and same goes for Forex. The first steps I
would suggest when beginning your Forex journey is

Conclusion:
All in all. Trading zones comes down to understanding all of the
di erent concepts that i put together. Understanding market
structure, manipulation, zones, candle confirms, and traders
mentality. When all of these are e ectively put together it will allow
you to better trade the currency markets!

During times in the market of this nature, it is critical to be patient

and understand this. The majority of traders win easily in trending
markets by lose in times like this. One must wait for a fundamental
reason to enter during this time or wait for a break and market
structure to resume.
Breaking Market Structure
For markets to move up and down a break in market structure must

occur. A Break in market structure occurs when the market begins to
shi direction and break the previous HH and HL or HL and LL of the
market. An example is shown below. 

The market is in a clear down trend creating a pattern of LH and LL,

but at the bottom we have a last low. A er that occurred we broke
the previous LH, which for me is a great indicator (if follower by a HL,
which it did) that the market is shi ing. A er we create a new high,
that signals that the market has 100% shi ed. A er we have
identified this you must be able to execute.
Execution
Market structure is not a trading strategy or set up, its is more of an

understanding that allows you to be able to see how the overall
market conditions are. The goal for executing with market structure
is using it and having an understanding of it to be able to execute set
ups including FTR, FTB, break out strategies o of and to di erent
zones.
Conclusion
Bearish- LH and LL
Bullish- HL and HH
Consolidation= no HH or LL
Shi ing- market switches from HH and HL to LH and LL
execution is based of begin able to capture the small waves
between zones with the understanding of how the market
structure is flowing.


The best and most e ective way to take advantage of this and avoid
it is to know. Know if there is news events coming out that may
cause institutions to need to flush the market will sells before
switching to buys, know how the di erent cycles of each day play
out, and know how to identify market structure/trends. Trends don’t
last for ever and it is VERY typical to see a clear manipulation play
right at the end of a nice long trend. Why? Because for the market to
flush out large amounts of sellers, they must first have price drop

executing LARGE moves. As you can see, these moves always happen
in NY and London, but a lot of these fake outs/manipulations ALSO
happen during di erent NY and London sessions. The point here is
that you must understand which type of day it is. Is it a slow large
move type of day? if so, do you see any signs of prior 1-2 day
manipulation moves? If it is a slow day do you see any potential
manipulation moves happening?
Conclusion:
To conclude, there are 2 types of manipulation 1 in which is blatantly

illegal and the other in which is a necessary function of the markets
in order for it to create enough orders for it to move. Yes, i am sure
that some of these manipulation moves are associated with each
other as these large bank manipulations will take advantage of this.

When it comes down to being a pro trader you must be able to place yourself in the best
possible scenario to win every trade. One way to do that is to wait for proper
confirmations to take a position. I find/see many people taking trades with NO
confirmations, DO NOT DO THIS PLEASE. As this may, here and there, give you a beautiful
wick entry, do not do this, it will cost you more than it makes you, especially if you are a
beginner. When i look for candle confirmations, i will usually wait for 1-3 candles to close
(in 15m Time Frame) which allows me have a better understanding of what will happen (a
market edge).
My favorite 3 Candle Set Ups:
Bearish/Bullish Engulfing
Before UJ 15m
This is a Bullish Engulfing candle, what this means is that buying pressure has now taken
over the previous selling pressure. When This happens, especially on a support zone like
here, we can expect a really nice move to the upside. When i see a set up like this, on a
support zone, I enter on the open of the next candle and as it pulls back (to create a wick).


This move lead to an All green push of 80 pips in 2 hours, Arrow is where the bullish
confirm candle was. I would enter on the next candle.
Bearish Engulfing
Before EJ 15m
This is the opposite from the bullish engulfing (duh), this is a bearish engulfing candle,
which means that selling pressure has taken over the previous candles buying
pressure.When This happens, especially on a resistance zone like here, we can expect a
really nice move to the down side. When i see a set up like this, on a resistance zone, I
enter on the open of the next candle. When trading these i place Stop Loss ABOVE the
resistance zone and place take profit according (on bullish engulfing and any other candle
confirms also).

As you can see this was a very clean and straight to the next zone. This was about 50 pips
(yes standards) in 5 15m candles. :0
Bullish Pin Bar

Before EG 15m
This is a bullish bin bar, what this shows is that (when at a support) buyers have taken the
control over the sellers WHILE in the same candle, which can more of a momentum switch
than a simple rejection candle. And this bullish pin bar is a signal that we will more than
likely come back up to the next minor resistance, as usual i will enter directly a er this
candle or wait for 1 more confirm to be more sure.

As you can see here, the bearish pin bar closed above the support zone and there for we
managed to move all the way back up to a minor support (about 20 standards)
Bearish Pin Bar

Before GU 15m
This is a Bearish pin bar, what this shows (if at resistance) is that buyers were in control for
most of the time but by the end of the candle, the sellers took over. What this signals is
that we will most likely continue down. On this set up depending on the momentum, i will
enter directly a er this candle or let 1 more candle play out.
A er
A er, we pushed down to the next support zone which would result in around a 30 pip
gain. (notice how the bearish pin bar closed below the resistance zone)
Exhaustion Doji Candles

Before UJ 15m

Exhaustion Dojis are also a very good thing to look for, as you can see, we are exhausting
ABOVE a support zone so what does that mean? We look for a bullish candle(to engulf all
of past candles price movement) as a confirmation to take buy. If the next candle goes red
and engulfs all price, i will just wait.

And bam, So what we look for now is an entry. Entering a er the Arrowed candle is ideal
with a tp at the next zone (which would be about 12 pips).

An FTB or a “First Time Back”, is when the markets move BACK to an

bearish FTB that occurred last week. The market created a very large
FTR during a large downtrend and then continued trending down for
over half of a day. The market then pulled back (without
consolidating) and trended right back up into the FTR zone, closed
inside, and then the next candle closed back below, indicating a
potential sell trade. Following the same strict rules, our stop loss
being above the FTR zone/wicks, and take profit at the recent low
formed the risk-reward for this trade was 1:2.5. This trade is an
example of when the market didn’t continue to the downside a er
the take profit zone, so you must always be doing current market
condition analysis and protecting profits.
Conclusion
All in all, the FTB is a powerfull technical strategy that is very strict
which allows traders to maximize potential profits and minimize
unnecessary losses. If you are a busy trader and do not have time to
always be looking at the charts, check out my FTR indicator (which

Fundamentals:
Fundamentals are what fuels the market, these include:

News Events (NFP, Interest Rates, FOMC, Etc), Speeches, and
war/conflicts. When using fundamental analysis, people use
it to attempt to measure the actual value of a currency pair.
For Example: if the United States has a large increase in
unemployment rates and Non-Farm payroll (NFP) is very
negative compared to the foretasted numbers, we can expect
a continuation of the trend (if we are in a downtrend) or a
trend reversal. To find and read information about news
related events you can just head here
(http://www.forexfactory.com/), Forex factory has a calendar
containing the upcoming news events and break downs of
what each event means and how the results could a ect the
currency it is associated with.
Technicals:
Technical analysis of course, is attempting to forecast future

price movement based o of past price movement. In Forex
we use things like candle sticks, candle patterns, support
and resistance zones to trade this way. I cover these aspects
of trading every day, so subscribe to get emails when i post if
you haven’t already.
Trading Fundamentals Based o Technicals:
Trading fundamentals based o of technicals is actually

much easier than you would expect. The few hours before
the news events, the market leaves hints on to which ways
the news will move the market. What I tend to Find the Most
is, price will create a liquidity move before the news (a few
hours) or right as the news drops, creating a massive wick.
One tip i suggest when trading the news is, use SMALL size
unless you are already positioned accordingly many hours
prior to the news. This way you protect your capital.

In this example, an announcement was made that Rand Paul

will not vote for a tax bill, due to him promising Kentucky
that he would not vote for ridiculous spending. His choice
how ever, was bad the the USD causing selling pressure in
the market. While it seems like predicting what he would say
would be hard, it isn’t, we just have to look at the charts and
find hints. If we look, the past 1.5 hours before the release,
the market was rejecting a major resistance zone (the circled
candles), indicating to me that we could see a move to the
down side and potentially back to the major support zone.
The confirmation to take a sell position is, the extremely
bearish candle before the news candle. When taking this
trade we would as usual look for a move from zone to zone,
while having our stops around 1 pip above the highest wick
that was created in the last 2 hours ensuring us with the best
possible position in which to capitalize on this trade.

USD/JPY: December 13, 2017
In this, we had a lot of major news, we had interest rates

(stayed as forecasted), we had FOMC , CORE CPI (was worse
than expected) and Crude Oil Inventory (worse than
expected). When we are in a trend and interest rates stay as
expected, we can conclude that we will continue the current
trend momentum, especially when all of the other news
events that came out where negative. There were many hints
we could have noticed throughout the day leading up to the
news that could allow us to have capitalized on this move. If
we take a look at the top 2 circles i have drawn, we can see
that price was accumulating orders at a support, which
means that more than likely we will smash through that zone
and continue onto the next zone. If we look later into the day
we see we did smash through that zone, but we ended up
pulling back and testing the major support (now resistance)
and the rejection of that zone would have been a key entry
point for me personally. The News candle itself (yellow) was
actually a doji, and a er a doji candle we can usually expect
a continuation of the current trend, which happened. On this
set up, i would have been looking for entry positions (if i
didn’t have any already), a er the bearish candle that
rejected from the support turned resistance, with a stop loss
above the zone and Take Profit at the next major zone
(112.55).
30m Time Frame

CAD/JPY. December 1, 2017
This News move was absolutely massive, over 110 pips in 30

minutes which is very rare for CAD/JPY. The news that was
released on CJ was Employment change (Positive), GDP
(positive), and unemployment rate (positive). All of these
positive results are what caused CAD to Explode, but none
the less this trade is extremely simple. We can notice a small
uptrend and price making a lot of small waves. Which means
that positions are being loaded up by banks and institutions,
as the market makers are preparing for a bullish news event.
The goal of the market maker before news events is to load
up as many opposite direction positions as they can, so they
can take your money.
Looking for an entry on this set up is very simple, as you can

see we created a bullish engulfing at a fairly strong support
zone and we had very good candle confirmation. On this
trade you could have entered a er the bullish engulfing, with
a stop loss of 10 pips placing it below the zone in a very good
position and have a Take profit of 30 pips(the upper minor
zone drawn).
I do not recommend news trading for beginners or
intermediate traders, you can lose a large amount of your
account if done incorrectly, be smart when it comes to news
and happy trading!
