TORSION TEST
3/6
IEICOS Digital Torsion testing machine is a digital state of the art equipment for
conducting the above torsion test on a hydraulic connectors. It comprises of the
following components:
The base frame of the torsion testing machine supports all the components of the torsion
testing machine and is design to be rugged. The u-channel base of the torsion testing
machine is mounted on top plate of the base frame.
The base frame also holds the AC Motor with a double reduction gearbox to provide
23.3RPM, a reaction torque sensor with digital torque indicator and an encoder with the
digital angle indicator. A main switch is also provided to switch the direction of the
rotation of the motor and hence the rotation of the output shaft.
2 Phase AC Motor 0.5 HP with double reduction gearbox is used to provide the rotation
(twist) at a very slow speed of 23.3 RPM. The motor needs to be connected to 3 Phase,
440V AC +/- 10V 50 Hz for operation. A forward reverse switch is provided to switch
the direction of rotation of the motor.
3. Encoder
An encoder is used to measure the angular twist of rotation. The encoder generates
pulses proportional to the angle of rotation in 0.1 degree resolution the angle up to
9999.9 degrees after which it rolls over and continues.

4. Torque sensor
IEICOS strain gauge torque sensor is used to measure the torque produced by the shaft.
5. Emergency switch
When the emergency stop button is pressed, the safety functions module detects the
button signal and commands the drive to stop the motor by using a deceleration ramp.
The safety functions module monitors the deceleration ramp and after the motor has
stopped, activates the STO function to bring the motor into a non-torque state. To
continue drive operation after an emergency stop, the emergency stop button is released
(pulled up). This deactivates the emergency stop function in safety functions module,
causing it to deactivate the STO function. The drive is restarted by a separate start
command. The drive is configured to not start automatically. The safety functions
module provides the diagnostics for the emergency stop button wiring.

Operation:
1) Ensure the motor Forward-Reverse switch is in OFF position
2) Connect both the 3 phase 440V supply and 1 phase 230V supply to the Digital
Torsion Testing machine.
4) Insert the female hydraulic connector to the connector block(larger ) and insert the
male hydraulic connector to the connector block(smaller).tight the Allen screw for both
male and female connector.
5) Insert larger block to the head stock (partially) and fix the male connector to the
female connector for 1 to 2 rounds and insert the smaller block to the tail stock of the
system.
6) Tight the Allen bolt above the disc, now the instrument is ready for testing.
7) Switch on the computer (software procedure is in the software manual).
8) switch on the motor in forward direction and watch the breaking of hydraulic
connector
