SECTION 15250 : INSULATION

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1. SCOPE OF WORK

A. Work Included

The work of this section shall include, but is not limited to, the following :

1. Duct insulation

2. Piping insulation

1.2. REFERENCE

3. Air Conditioning Regulations Issued by DKI Jakarta
4. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

1.3. QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer : Firm regularly engaged in manufacture of insulation materials of


types and size required, whose products have been in satisfactory use in
similar service for not less than 5 years.

B. Installer : Firm with at least 5 years of successful installation experience on


Ventilation and Air Conditioning work projects similar to this project.

C. Code Compliance : Comply with applicable portions of National Standard Air


Conditioning Code and Local air conditioning codes where more stringent.

1.4. SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data : Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions for
each product specified for insulation.

B. Submit shop drawing which indicate size and model number of insulation, before
they are released for fabrication.

C. Submit scaled shop drawing based on request by Owner's Engineer for


execution in site, which indicate general layout and detail of these work one
month prior to actual installation to the Owner's Engineer for approval.

D. Submit brosure/ catalog of insulation equipment and accessories for approval,


before they are released to order.

E. Upon completion of this portion of the work and as a condition of its


acceptance,deliver to the owner's Engineer copies of as-built drawings.

1.5. COORDINATION

A. The Contractor shall coordinate the work with all appropriate sections of the
specifications as necessary to insure proper provisions for the work of
this section.

B. Coordinate installation of element and equipment insulation.

1.6. GUARANTEE.

A. All equipment, materials and workmanship shall be guaranteed by the Contractor


for a period of one year from the date of final acceptance. Upon receipt of notice
from the Owner's Project Representative of any failure during the guaranteed
period, the affected part of work shall be replaced promptly by the
contractor af his expense.

B. The guarantee shall not extend to damages incurred through improper operation
and maintenance by the Owner. The Owner shall assume full responsibility for
proper operation and maintenance upon final acceptance.

2.2. GENERAL

A. Conform to application schedule for types and thicknesses of insulation.

B. Provide insulation (including insulation jacket and ahesives used to adhere the
facing or jacket to the insulation) with noncombustible material meeting Code
requirements and fire and smoke hazard ratings as tested by procedure ASTM
E-84, National Fire Protection Association 225 not exceeding flame spread 25 and
smoke developed 50.

C. Insulation Cladding: Provide 0.5 mm thick aluminum cladding for all exposed
(machine rooms, areas without ceiling etc.) insulated pipes fittings,
valves and equipment.

D. Fittings, Valves and Flanges

1. Insulate fittings, flanges and valves with mitered segments of the same density
as the adjoining pipe covering.

B. Seal joints and breaks in duct insulation vapor barrier with thermally activated
bonding tape equal to manville Thermlock PFR. Pressure sensitive tapes
shall not be permitted.

C. Cover by aluminum foil, flame retandant, double sided, reinforce and width
adhesive aluminum foil seal tape.

D. Plenum : Fiber glass rigid board insulation min 2 lbs/cuft supply plenum thickness
2" & return plenum thickness, 1".

E. Duct or plenum sizes indicate clear internal sizes. The thickness of insulation
must be added to the dimensions shown on the drawings to determine the
actual duct/plenum size.

F All air conditioning supply and return air ducts shall be provided with thermal and/or
acoustic insulation, complete with vapour barrier, as shown on the drawings.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1. INSTALLATION OF INSULATION

A. Perform work in strict accordance with the manufacturers recommendation


and the best practice of the trade and the intent of this specification.

B. Apply insulation over clean dry surface, butting sections or surfaces firmly
together and finishing as hereinafter specified.

C. Seal vapor barriers continuous throughout against moisture penetration.

3.2. PROTECTION OF INSULATION

A. Protect pipe insulation at hangers, guides, and rollers by 16 gauge galvanized


metal shields (at least 3 times the insulation diameter in length and 1/3 the
insulation circumference in width) on the outside of the insulation and vapor
barrier. Hold shields in place by straps. Do not pierce the insulation with
hangers.

B. Do not use staples on vapor barrier jackets.
