As a planned, sequential instruction that promotes lifelong physical activity, designed to develop
basic movement skills, sports skills, and physical fitness as well as to enhance mental, social, and
emotional abilities.
It is the integral part of the educational program design to promote the optimum development of
the individual, physically, mentally, emotionally through total body movement in the performance of
properly selected physical activities.
Physical Education is "education through the physical". It aims to develop students’ physical
competence and knowledge of movement and safety, and their ability to use these to perform in a wide
range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also develops
students’ confidence and generic skills, especially those of collaboration, communication, creativity,
critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation. These, together with the nurturing of positive values and
attitudes in PE, provide a good foundation for students’ lifelong and life-wide learning.
Physical education, also known as gym class, is a class taught in kindergarten through 12th
grade that involves student participation in physical activity. The goal of physical education classes is to
introduce students to the basic elements of exercise that will lead to a healthy lifestyle.
The main purpose of health and wellbeing within Curriculum for Excellence is to develop the
knowledge and understanding , skills, capabilities, and attributes necessary for mental, emotional, social
and physical wellbeing now and in the future.
The objective of “Physical Education” discipline (thematic learning modules: “Physical Education”,
“Applied Physical Education”) is to develop a comprehensive outlook of an individual with a strong civic
position, moral qualities, sense of responsibility, an independent, initiative, tolerant person who is able to
successfully socialize and to use different forms of physical education and sports in daily life to protect his
or her own health and promote effective professional activities.

expression, and social interaction.
The purpose of the discipline is:
1. Understanding the meaning of physical education for an individual development and improving
general health for professional activity;
2. Fostering motivational attitude to the physical education, healthy lifestyle and regular exercising;
3. Learning special knowledge, practical skills, which provide health protection, form compensatory
process, correct present health abnormalities, provide mental prosperity, development and
improvement of psychophysical skills, form professional qualities of an individual;
4. Body’s adaptation for physical and mental workload and also at the increasing of the capability of
physiological systems as well as raising of the resistance of immune defenses;
5. Learning the methodology of formation and taking health exercises independently, the methods of
self-control while exercising, hygiene rules and sound schedule for work and rest;
6. Learning how to resist unfavorable factors and working conditions, decreasing fatigue during
professional activities and raising the quality of results.
Four objectives of physical education are to help individuals become physically fit, develop character,
learn skills and become knowledgeable about sport. Physical education creates well-rounded people.
1. Fitness
This includes developing muscle strength, endurance, flexibility and agility. For example, throwing
and hitting balls exercises various muscles, track running improves heart health and aerobics increases
lung capacity.
2. Character
Physical education encourages participants to work as components of a team, showing them how
to successfully work together to reach a goal. A sense of fair play is fostered as well as an awareness of
and sensitivity toward others.
3. Skills
Many skills are learned during physical education classes, including how to position the body for
various sporting activities, how to keep safe when stretching the body to its limits and how to mentally
prepare for sporting events.
4. Sport
Participants learn about particular sports' rules, techniques and strategies, often enabling them to
cope successfully in real-life situations.
The main purpose of health and wellbeing within Curriculum for Excellence is to develop the

3. Demonstrates competence in combinations of manipulative, locomotor, and nonlocomotor skills

4. Demonstrates competence in many different forms of physical activity.
5. Demonstrates proficiency in a few forms of physical activity.
6. Has learned how to learn new skills.
A physically educated person who participates in health-enhancing physical
activity:
