Explaining real applications of circuit theory

1. Introduction
Within the professional training of future engineers studying at ESPOL and the ABET
accreditation process of its programs, it is required to develop soft skills besides the technical
knowledge.
The main objective of this project is to develop and improve the abilities of engineering
students to communicate and explain applications of the theory learnt as part of the Analysis
of Electrical Networks 2 course on video. The video shall be recorded in English, considering
the strong impact of English language on engineering careers.

2. General guidelines

 This assignment consists on analyzing electric circuits with real applications and recording
a video to explain their operation. The circuit to analyze will depend on the program of the
student.
 This task shall be completed individually or in pairs, as long as both students are studying
the same program.
 The whole oral presentation shall be in English language.
 The due date for the video is August 13th, 2019, at 23h59.

3. Topic selection

The application to analyze shall be selected based on your program as follows:

- Electronics and Automation engineering: Boost converter operation. Instructions
and references are included in the file Boost_converter.zip.
- Electrical engineering: RC passive filter for the mitigation of harmonics in power
systems. Instructions and references are included in the file RC_Passive_Filter.zip

- Telecommunications and Telematics Engineering: FM transmitter circuit.

Instructions and references are included in the file FM_transmitter.zip

4. Video recording guidelines

 The video shall last between 2 and 3 minutes per student and 4 and 6 minutes overall.
Presentations shorter or longer than that will be penalized with a lower grade.
 In the video, you shall briefly explain the operation of your assigned system and answer
the questions provided in the instructions to properly address the presentation.
 The video shall be uploaded to YouTube. Both students shall speak. Please don’t forget
to give other people access to the video (make it public!).
 The link of your video shall be submitted via Sidweb. Please, include the slides of the
presentation in the submission.
 The presentation will be graded based on your technical knowledge of the topic and your
verbal and non-verbal expression, as well as your skills to explain and present your ideas.
