Hi Friends, I want to thank you for the positive feedback I received from last Sunday’s time of
worship. I am so blessed to know that God was speaking to many of you, through the music and
the message: Supernatural Strength in Times of Trouble. As you walk through this week, I pray you
are cultivating your relationship with God by spending time in His word, time in prayer, and time
journaling. Also, just a quick reminder of the challenge I put out there: let’s all start bringing our
bibles and journals to worship every Sunday, so that by journaling the ways God is speaking to us,
we can start to see the "divine footprints across the sands of our lives.”

As we move on to a new week and another time of worshipping God together, I know you will be blessed by what
you experience this Sunday! This week we will be Youth Ministry Sunday. Between the Sr. High Local Mission and
Retreat, the Jr. High Retreat, Creation Fest trip, and the Summer Block Party Outreaches, the youth have been very
active this summer! This Sunday, at both the 8:30 and 10:45am worship services, you will hear youth testify to how
God has been working in their lives through these trips and programs. My hope is that the youth testimonies will
encourage you in your personal walk with the Lord.

In addition, I will be sharing a short message regarding the Apostle Peter, and how in Acts, chapter 3, we see a
drastically different man than we saw when Jesus was enduring death on the cross. Peter once denied Jesus and hid
in fear, now in Acts chapter 3, Peter speaks the truth of Jesus boldly, even in the face of persecution and death.
What can account for such a radical transformation in the life of Peter? Only one thing: he had a personal encounter
with the risen Jesus. Friends, that is the only way a person can be truly changed and transformed!

One final note: I announced in worship this past Sunday about the community outreach event, Back to School
Blessing Day, that is happening on Sunday August 25th. As the kids gear up to go back to school, we will be offering
FREE haircuts to children and youth, a FREE lunch for EVERYONE, and school supplies for children in need. All of
this is happening from 12:00 – 3/4:00pm in our Fellowship Hall (the gym). If you would like to help make a difference
in the lives of children—both in our church and our community—you can support this event by donating the following
items: new backpacks, notebooks, folder, pens, and pencils. All of these supplies (except for backpacks) are
available in any dollar store. If you are interested in donating these supplies, you can bring them this Sunday August
18th, or the day of the event, Sunday August 25th. There will be several tables located in Fellowship Hall where you
can drop off your donations.
You are also welcome to join the festivities and enjoy a free lunch! I am very excited to announce that both D.W.
Dawgz and Tony’s Pizza have agreed to donate food for this community outreach event! The haircuts for the kids are
made possible by our friends at Legacy Barbershop (all three of these businesses are located on Crystal Street in
East Stroudsburg). This event is a wonderful picture of the local church partnering with local businesses in order to
make a difference in the lives of people. Friends, we are in the business of transforming lives—and this event on
August 25th is a great example of the type of positive impact we can have on our community in the name, and for the
sake of, Jesus Christ. Have a blessed week and I will see you on Sunday!

For Ernie Rountree
As many of you might’ve heard, last week there was
a serious and destructive fire at our brother, Ernie
Roundtree’s, apartment. As a Church, ESUMC will be
helping to support Ernie as he attempts to replace
what was lost in the fire, and moves into a new
apartment.
If you would personally like to help, there are two
ways you can donate:
• GIFT CARDS (to Walmart, Target, etc.) can be
dropped off at the church office during office
hours.
• MONETARY DONATIONS can also be dropped
off at the church office or placed in the Sunday
offering.

For Music Lovers & Singers
Do you find yourself wandering about singing,
whistling, or humming a tune? Do lyrics just stick in
your head until you give in and listen to a specific
song? Maybe your musical inclinations are actually
sending you a message: “I MISS MUSIC AND
SINGING!!!”
Well, you’re in luck, friends, because ESUMC’s next
Choir Season is starting up shortly—and we could
definitely use some more tune carriers and
harmonizers in the Choir!!!!
“But I don’t read music, I can’t do that!” Actually,
you can!!!! If you can sing in tune, and pickup the
melody (or harmony) to a popular song on the radio,
you can definitely sing along in the Choir! So give it
shot! Seriously, anyone who likes singing as much as
you do is bound to have a great time singing in the
Choir!

to me and my family during my recent mishap and
surgery. Your outpouring of support through prayers,
phone calls, visits, flowers, meals, cards and rides to
Physical Therapy have helped me heal emotionally,

Back to School Blessing Sunday is an event designed for Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg
Elementary, Middle, and High School students.

On Sunday, August 25th, all teachers and students are invited to attend ESUMC’s
Contemporary Service to be recognized, prayed over, and blessed before they head back to
school this Fall. Then, immediately following the service, a special Back to School event takes
place from 12:00-3:00 PM in the gymnasium. Thanks to our friends on Crystal Street, we’re
thrilled to help provide a FREE lunch for everyone (compliments of D.W. Dawgs and Tony's
Pizzeria), FREE haircuts to K-12 students (Legacy Barber Shop) and FREE school supplies!

Interested in how YOU can help contribute and promote this awesome outreach? For the next
two Sundays only, we’re asking ESUMC to donate NEW backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and
other school supplies to give out on the 25th. Many of these supplies can be purchased at the
Dollar Tree, Dollar General or Walmart, so please use this opportunity to help make a
difference!!!!

FPU Needs Your Help!
Do you have a heart for children? Are you willing to
give 2 hours of your time just 1 or 2 Wednesday
evenings this fall? If you answered yes to these
questions, you’re exactly who we’re looking for!
ESUMC would like to offer free childcare to Financial
Peace University participants this fall, and we need
your help to do it. FPU is a 9-week course that will be
held from 6:30-8:30 PM on Wednesday nights from
September 4th through October 30th. Since we know
that “many hands make light work,” we are not asking
for a 9-night commitment from just one or two people.
Instead, we are asking for commitment from several
people for just one to two evenings.

Due to a lack of attendance at our Older Kids (OK)
events and meetings, there is a possibility that the
OK's will cease meeting after their December event.
As a Church, we celebrate the commitment of OK
Leaders, Erma Powell and Karen Dudley, for
ceaseslessly planning and coordinating for this group.
However, we also acknowledge the challenge of
organizing events for a group that has continued to
decrease in attendance. Should you, or someone you
know have any questions about this potential change,

New Faces at ESUMC
Have you ever walked into a room full of people you
didn’t know (or didn’t know well)? What did that feel
like? Was it awkward, weird, or unsettling? What about
the reverse? Have you ever been in the “crowd” and
thought: Should I go talk to them? …It’s not really ‘my
thing.’” “I wonder if someone going to greet them?”
Friends, if you’ve thought any of those things, you are
not alone! Welcoming others can be unnerving, or
uncomfortable, but it’s SO INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!
As Christians, we believe that we are made in God’s
image. And as such, we’re called to be imitators of Him.
The Bible specifically talks about hospitality:
“... love the stranger, for you were strangers in the
land of Egypt.”
(Deuteronomy 10:19)
“...love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all
your soul, and with all your strength, and with all
your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
(Luke 10:27)
“Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show
hospitality to strangers for by doing that some have
entertained angels without knowing it.”
(Hebrews 13:1 )
“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty
and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and
you welcomed me.”
(Matthew 25:35)
So, the next time you see an unfamiliar face, stop and
think about how YOU would feel if you were the new
person! Wouldn’t you want to have someone come
introduce them selves? Or, at least, offer a smile and a
hearty handshake! It may be a little out of your comfort
zone, but we are called to hospitality! And being a
welcoming congregation is certainly part of that. Give it a
try! You might just meet a new friends an encourage
someone to come back and visit again.
