Industry Profile

1.1: INTRODUCTION TO PUBLISHING

History of distributing is a record of the determination, readiness, and showcasing of printed

matter from its starting points in antiquated occasions to the present. The movement has
developed from little beginnings into a mammoth and complex industry in charge of the
dispersal of all way of social material; its effect upon progress is difficult to compute.

This article proportions of the collectible and improvement of book, paper, and magazine
distributing in its specialized and business viewpoints. The procedure and scattering of
composed correspondence are pursued from its beginnings in the old world to the cutting
edge time frame. For extra data on the arrangement of early compositions, see composing. A
progressive point by point examination of printing innovation can be found in printing. The
dispersal of distributed material through electronic media is treated in data handling. For an
exchange of reference-book distributing, see the articles reference book; lexicon. The
historical backdrop of distributing is described by a nearby exchange of specialized
development and social change, each advancing the other. Distributing as today is known
relies upon a progression of three noteworthy creations—composing, paper, and printing—
and one significant social advancement—the spread of proficiency. Prior to the innovation of
composing, maybe by the Sumerians in the fourth thousand years BCE, data could be spread
distinctly by listening in on others' conversations, with all the going with impediments of spot
and time. Composing was initially viewed not as a method for spreading data but rather as an
approach to fix religious plans or to verify codes of law, parentages, and other socially
significant issues, which had recently been focused on memory. Distributing could start
simply after the syndication of letters, frequently held by a holy rank, had been broken, most
likely regarding the improvement of the benefit of writing in business. Contents of different
sorts came to be utilized all through a large portion of the antiquated world for
announcements, correspondence, exchanges, and records; however book generation was
limited generally to religious focuses of learning, as it would be again later in medieval

1
Europe. Just in Hellenistic Greece, in Rome, and in China, where there were basically non-
religious social orders, does there appear to have been any distributing in the cutting edge
sense—i.e., a replicating industry providing a lay readership.

1.1.1: Book Publishing

The structure, substance, and arrangements for making and dispersing books have fluctuated
broadly during their long history, however by and large it might be said that a book is
intended to fill in as an instrument of correspondence. The Babylonian earth tablet, the
Egyptian papyrus roll, the medieval vellum codex, the printed paper volume, the microfilm,
and different blends have filled in as books. The extraordinary assortment in structure is
coordinated by an equivalent assortment in substance. Both Shakespeare's gathered plays,
first distributed in 1623, and the most misguided and trifling tract distributed in that or some
other year were structured as instruments of correspondence.

The book is additionally portrayed by its utilization of composing or some other arrangement
of visual images, (for example, pictures or melodic documentation) to pass on an importance.
As a complex mode of correspondence, it requires authority of the hard-won aptitudes of
perusing and composing. Another distinctive component is distribution for substantial course.
A sanctuary segment with a message cut on it's anything but a book. Signs and bulletins that
are simple enough to transport are made to draw according to passers-by from a fixed area
and in this manner are not typically thought about books. Private records not expected for
course likewise are not viewed as books.

A book, with the end goal of this talk, is a composed (or printed) message of significant
length, implied for open course and recorded on materials that are light yet strong enough to
manage the cost of similarly simple compactness. Its main role is to convey a message
between individuals, contingent upon the twin resources of movability and perpetual quality.
Accordingly, the book rises above reality to declare, to elucidate, and to protect and transmit
information. Books have gone to the conservation and dispersal of information in each
proficient society. The accompanying record, keeping principally inside the extent of human
advancement as it created in Western Europe and North America, considers the book as it
showed up at various occasions ever, the trademark substance and survival of duplicates and
messages, and the methods for generation and conveyance.

OBSERVATIONS
1. The work in the company is full field work. Most of the times the executives are
out and they are back in the office in the afternoon session. Only the manager and
the HR remains with the supporting staff remains in the office.
2. The authority in the office flows in the hierarchy way that is the manager is the
most powerful then comes the regional manager and then the territory manager
after that comes all the workers.
3. Being in the marketing and sales team it was exploring enjoying and visiting the
different locations. Here I realised that in different location the people nature is
different and we have to adjust accordingly.
4. The executives have to visit the school and the book dealers, authorized persons
and the schools frequently so that they keep good relations in the market.
5. A good percentage of discounts are given to the dealers and the retailers so that
the push the book of our company to the market.
6. Lots of gifts, offers are given to the people who can provide the business to the
company.
7. We have to be good with the retailers so that we good information about the other
publishers and could overtake them.
8. The process of this starts with sampling and then the executive runs for the orders
and then payments.
9. It is important to always be in touch with the people who can give the business
and offer them for a coffee, lunch, dinner, holiday trip, extra commission.
10. If the customer or we collect the payment in early time then we get extra 2%
commission for it.
11. Every month there will be marketing and sales meeting to see how the employees
are performing and the best performer will rewarded.

17
PART – B
Problem Centered Study

18
Elaboration of the problem/issue

Ace vision Publisher is well known brand in in book publisher industry in India. So, it’s not
easy task for the Ace vision to penetrate the publisher industry in India. Company has
decided to focus on the quality not the competitors and capture the market share. The books
are effective and having better quality in comparison to the Goyal’s (Competitor product).
So, it can create an effect into the mind of customers that they can avail good quality of
education paying the price which they have to pay. The company has many discounts and
offers for its distributors, retailers and middlemen.

When sales of the company will increase the market share of the firm will automatically
increase. The incentives will be provided to the sales team which will trigger them to work
even harder and grow the share of the market.

As all the companies will send their sales executive to the market ask them to increase their
shares our strategy this year will be to increase the sales by providing the skilled based
programs in the different schools who deals with us .

Relevance of the study in relation to the firm or industry

This will help the company to grow its market share at the good pace and will help them
achieve its target easily. As we all know that customer is the king and maintaining, retaining
and enhancing them is the utmost important and ultimate goal of any firms as the revenue
comes purely from the client and customer and thus retaining and satisfying them is the
ultimate option for any firm.

Thus the relevance of the study in industry is that the study will help will in understanding
the structure and pattern of the publishing industry and will help in letting us know the
satisfaction which the customers is getting after dealing with the product and services and the
problems which they are facing with the other publishers so that we can fix these problems
and make our customers happy.

19
TITLE OF THE STUDY
“Market penetration of acevision publication private limited, Guwahati Branch.”

ABSTRACT
The study has been done in the area of the northeast region. The survey conducted has been
done in the three big states of this region Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram. Acevision
publisher has a conducted this survey in the northeast region in the Guwahati branch. As we
all know that most of the states in this region are not very much explored this is the reason
why the company planned a market research on these three states because it is a potential
market.

The reason for conducting this research was to make a proper analysis of the market to find
out ways to expand the company’s business and increase its market share or to capture the
market shares. While doing this research in the developing states of the country Assam,
Meghalaya and Mizoram almost fifteen districts was cover in which around 180 schools and
25 dealers were interviewed. In the cities like Guwahati, Shillong and Aiwzal the market
seems to pretty much conservative because the parents of the children’s have a good
knowledge about the quality of education and it was found that there is a huge opportunity of
the company to hit its margins whereas in the places like goalpara, khrisnai, tura, jowai it was
founded that the parents are least concerned about the quality of the study and are rather more
price concerned. So, it’s not easy task for the Acevision to penetrate the publisher industry in
these states. Company has decided to focus on the quality not the competitors and capture the
market share. The books are effective and having better quality in comparison to the
others. So, it can create an effect into the mind of customers that they can avail good quality
of education. Hence the company has also have the best authors of the country behind them.
This will make the consumers feel that they are paying right amount for the books they are
purchasing and make them not think anything before buying the company’s books.

When sales of the company will increase the market share of the firm will automatically
increase. The incentives will be provided to the sales team which will trigger them to work
even harder and grow the share of the market.

been carried out based on data source of:

Primary data

Primary data are those data’s which are collected a fresh for the first time, and this
happens to be original in character. The methods I adopt to acquire data for the study is
through:

 Questionnaire
 Interview
 Observation
Secondary Data

Secondary data are those data’s which are already collected and ready to use.
Secondary data also means the data that are already available i.e., they refer to the data which
have already been collected and analysed by someone else. The secondary data that I use in
this study is through:

 Websites
 Books

Limitations:
 Disclosure of details by the concern organization is denied.
 Limited time frame to complete the project (9 weeks).
 Limited amount of time was spared by the respondents.
 Marketing and sales Manager (guide) spare limited amount of time as he is busy with
his work.

23
Statistical Tools used for Data Analysis and Interpretation:

 Weighted average method:

Presentation Tools used for Data Presentation
 Table: A table is a systematic arrangement of statistical data in
rows and columns. Rows are horizontal arrangement, whereas
columns are the vertical arrangements.
 Graph & Diagrams: One of the most convincing an appealing way
in which data may be presented is through charts. A chart can be
take the shape of either diagram or a graph

Software Tools used for Project Presentation

 The software tools that I had used for the study in the project report are:
Google forms, Microsoft Word & Microsoft Excel.

Contact Methods:

The respondents in my study were contacted directly (using survey method). It is one of the
most versatile methods. The survey was of intercept type in which the respondents were
asked to answer the questions on the spot. The method is time consuming but it provides
better results direct interaction with the respondent which is missing in the other case that is
in telephonic, mail and other methods of interviewing.

Suggestions:

 The company should start providing and promoting the counter sales more often
rather than just sending their executive in the field because this would initiate the
company to bring its awareness in the industry.
 It would be a good opportunity for the company if they push in selling the exercise
copies in the market. This would trigger the sales team because they will have a
source to earn more from their incentives by selling the copies which will be extra
from their salaries.
 The companies should also provide free workshops to the schools which make direct
and bulky dealing where the business is eventually more than expected, this would tie
the customer to the company.
 The company should also be assured that they should make the delivery on time as
most of the feedback suggestion remarks on the delivery schedule, hence would
recommend the company to look forward to this.
 The operation department of the headquarters would need to be more actives as the
stock does not reach on time to the different branches of the company.
 The sales team should visit the customer at least 4 meet up in the session as this
would build up a good relation with the customers.

Conclusion
Thus after formulation and preparation of the report I would like to conclude that
Acevision Publisher is performing at its pace and consistently improving and keeping the
same spirit. Acevision Publisher has more opportunities in Northeast region as more
companies are being incorporated and due to which more employees are getting recruited
in the branch of northeast. Hence this preparation of report had helped in gaining
knowledge about the competitors and the share of the market. And I have also learnt how
to deal with customers and how the company can gain more market share in the industry.
