For my face, I had quite the revelation this 2
summer. For as long as I can remember, I’ve
broken out every holiday thanks to sunscreen.
This trip? Not a spot in sight. I slathered it
on and my skin behaved from start to finish. 3

With all this noise and mixed advice, it’s easy
to get confused, and the last thing I want is for
you to stop using sunscreen all together, so let’s
clear some things up. First, SPF 100: do or

hours.” Of course, if you particularly love the
texture, then there’s no harm in SPF 100, but
there’s no need to ditch your favourite SPF 30 or
50. The key word is reapplication.
What to try: I went through an entire bottle of
Clarins Suncare Oil Mist (1 £22) on my recent
holiday. I found the fine mist addictive as it gave
my limbs and décolletage the most gorgeous
non-sticky, glossy radiance. The experience was
more dewy body oil than SPF. I think that’s the
secret, finding a sunscreen you enjoy applying
so it doesn’t feel like a chore. Another excellent
offering is Caudalie Milky Sun Spray SPF 50
(2 £21). There’s no tackiness to the texture and
the milky consistency makes it both hydrating
and soothing. They say you can use it on your

Vichy Solar Protective Water SPF 30 (7 £19) is
packed with antioxidants, feels more like a

water resistant — great for the whole family.
My best advice is this: find an SPF that you
love. Find a formula that doesn’t irritate you 7
and a texture that you adore. There is no point
in my telling you that you must use something
that doesn’t feel or look great as you just won’t,
and in the words of Baz Luhrmann — OK, I’m
going to tweak it slightly: everybody must, must, 8
