1st day of OJT

After the orientation for the premises and rules in the company, the HR manager assign us on different
department, there are 3 departments here for engineering interns, Quality Control (QC), Warehouse and
OPC. Good thing I was assign in the QC. First the supervisor introduce me in the office and let me
accompany by one of the employees. Sir Jonathan tour me to the Plant and explain the different
machines and the uses of each of it like the SRU 1200 and 1380, Outside and Inside Blasting machine,
Hydraulic Testing machine, Epoxy/Paint Coating and Lining machine, Expander Machine, Radiographic
Examination machine, Cement Coating and Lining machine, Wrapping machine and Vacu-Blast machine.
At that day I have learn the machines that they use for forming the pipe. Pipe formation machine (SRU
1200 and SRU 1380) the SRU 1200 can only form a medium OD pipes while the SRU 1380 can form 2200
OD pipes. SRU 1200 uses forming shoe for bending the coil while the SRU 1380 uses roller _. The 2
machines has own automatic welding for the inside and outside of the pipes and they uses electrode to
weld the coil. After the pipe has been form, they will measure the correct length of the order and they
will cut it by the cutting machine using the electrode. Next the mobile crane will get the pipe and put it
outside for further inspection. While the pipe has been processing the QC inspector needs to take down
the notes of the pipe that has been forming, the End 1 and 2 adjustment size and the remarks of the
pipe if it has a defects. As an intern I need to observe first and asked some question about the machines.
As my first day I’m satisfied even I didn’t actually saw all the machine how it works but atleast I saw how
the coil can be pipes.

2nd day of OJT

At exactly 6 am we arrived at the plant. I immediately went to QC office and wait my task for today. Sir
Trinidad was my companion for today and we went to SRU 1200 and he told some information about
the machines and the cranes. He is good on explaining things and every wuestion that I asked he answer
it clearly. I also know from him about the flux that they uses to join or help the coil join together. After
pouring the flux in the conical tank we go back to the office cause the forming shoe has to be fix again.
After the Sir jay told us that we will be assign in the repair section where the pipes will be check if it has
defects or needed to be weld and grind. At that time Sir john was the one who assist us and teach us the
different bad welds. So far I already know this day about the start stop (ss), pin hole (PH), builp up (b-
up), bent, recut and burn through. I also know the coil joint were the other coil and the other that has
been cut and then be connected to the other coil that will continue the process of forming the coil into a
pipe.

3rd day

As my third day we are still in the repair. Sir john told me that we will be the one who will check the
repair in building B where the 393 OD pipes needed to be check. I went there and ask the welder if when
he will be finish on repairing the pipes that has been check cause it was a protocal here that after the
welder weld the pipes that has been correction it will still be check twice to be sure that the pipe has no
bad weld again for the Hydro test. Me and my co-ojt orange check and accepted totally 5 pipes. I learn
so much for this day and enjoy my task even it makes us exhausted because sometimes if needed we
need to check the pipes in building A. But it’s okay cause it’s a different experience for me. Sir Hindang
told us to go in the hydro test so that we can see how they test their pipes and according to him the
machine operates 58 bar and if it will be converted to psi it will be 853 psi. When the hydro test start,
we needed to be far at the machine cause if the pressure increases the water will splatter. Then I also
saw the panel that they use to operate the machine and the monitor where you can see the pressure
that uses and if the pipe has leaks.

4th day

Early in the morning at exactly 6 am we already begin our duty and task. But sometimes we needed to
rest. As what Sir John said we needed to rest cause we've done so many works yesterday. So Sir Iko told
us to be with him in the SRU 1380 and he will explain to us some details about the machine. When we
get there, he demonstrate to us on how to measure the pipe adjustment and writing the work order,
number and the OD of the pipe. After some time, he let us measure on our own and write. After
measuring the pipe adjustment we needed to write the number that we have measure on the pipe if its
- or + number depends on the stm code cause this numbers needed if the operator needed to stop
operation if the range that has been finalize was already outreach that's why it is so important to
measure it after 2 or 3 spirals has been form. We also guard the pipe spirals if its already off center and
you will tell the operator to stop the operation so that it can be adjust. After in the pipe forming, we
needed to go back to the repair to check the pipes that has been weld. But time to time we go back to
the pipe forming to measure and check again the pipes.

5th day

We are still in the repair section but sir hindang asked for our help in the PPT. He teach us on how to
measure the portion of the pipe until where will be painted. But at first, we needed to wait the pipe to
be blast in the outside blasting machine. I saw the process on how they blast the pipe and I don’t have a
clue on how can it be blast if the part has been blasted was just in the wheel and the has no thing that
will trigger the blasting and that’s the one that I've been wondering. I’d like to asked sir hindang he is
also busy so I didn’t have a chance to asked him about it.

6th day

It’s our last day in the QC so I did my best to finish all the checking’s that needed to be check. Every 30
minutes or 1 hour they will come to the office and tell us that they needed to check the pipe. Just like in
my 3rd day it was tiring but fulfilling to be part of the QC and I was very thankful for their hospitality and
kindness towards us. I learn so much to them in so many ways. I’m not wrong on choosing this plant for
my ojt because they teach us and let us grow in the field.

2nd week

1st day

As for this week I was assign in the engineering machinery and maintenance (EMM). My supervisor is Sir
Gab, at first, he tour me and explain to me the task of their department. I saw many mechanical tools
and he explains to me on how they maintenance the SRU 1200, every year they change the roller bender
and every month they refill the grease in the rollers. They use grease gun to refill and they use high
temp grease so that the heat can endure the rollers. They also monitor the hydraulic oil so that they will
know if it is needed to refill. After lunch SIr explains to me how the blasting machine works and finally
my question will be able to answer. The pipe will be drop to the blasting machine with help of the crane
and after that the operator will get the cover for the exact size of the and then the pipe will enter the
hole where it will be blasted through the grater and that grater was the one will be patch up in the
surface of the pipe and the pipe will come out clean and smooth. The next thing he teach me was to use
the lathe machine at first, he let me observe on how they used it. I was amazed by the shipper machine
because it has so many controls and it has on and off button. I asked the operator of what the uses of
the different controls and he is obliged answer my questions. At exactly 3pm Sir Gab come back and
teach me to use the lathe machine. At that time, I’m excited and happy cause finally I will be able to
know how to use the lathe machine. He demonstrate to me on how to center the object in the wheel
holder and the different tools that uses to shape the things in there like the drill teeth, teeth, and the
left and right. After how many minutes i was the one who operates the machine until we went out. It
was so fulfilling for me and I'm contented.

2nd day

My 2nd day here in EMD was exciting. Sir Gab told me that he will let me operate the overhead crane
(KONE) but before I’ll do that I need to go in the automotive department where is my specialization is. I
learn so many things with the help of their mechanic like the firing order and how to adjust the
carburetor when the vehicle sounds unusual. At exactly 2 p.m. Sir Gab call me to operate the crane. At
first, he told me how to climb up to the controller I must remember the 3-eye position and after I climb
up, I went to the controller’s position where Sir Gab and the Operator guide and teach me. The upper
box control is the up and down of the crane while the floor box control is the gantry travel and hoist
travel. After that Sir Gab tells me the operating system of the KONE Overhead Crane was pneumatic but
the other cranes like the DEMAG and KATO was electrical power source.
