• Oversees and defines the strategic vision and direction of enterprise applications for the third largest
school district in the US, supporting 40,000 employees and 360,000 students in Chicago.
• Areas of responsibility include: Oracle Financials, Student Information Systems, Human Capital
Management, Web Services, Service Management and Mobile Web Development.
• Responsible for a group of 70+ IT professionals across 5 enterprise application teams. Direct reports
include: Director of Oracle Financials, Director of Human Resources, Director of Student Information,
Director of Web Services and Manager of Service Management; responsible for hiring, coaching,
delivering performance reviews, overseeing projects and supporting personal growth.
• Manages an annual IT budget of $15 million, 40 IT projects and 25 IT vendor contracts
• Develops short and long term strategic visual roadmaps by area and ensures technology initiatives
are aligned with the district's mission, vision and objectives.
Recent Accomplishments
• Oversaw the successful rollout of a new Student Information System to 600+ schools and 25,000
educators in April 2019; the project consolidated 4 separate on-premise IT systems into 1 cloud
hosted application.
• Onboarded a new Managed Services team of 10 people in May 2019 to improve technical support for
the district’s core finance systems, including Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Hyperion, Oracle
Business Intelligence and Oracle Imaging and Process Management.
• Led a criminal background check project in the summer of 2018 to process 50,000 background
checks in 3 months for employees, vendors, volunteers and coaches; implemented an online safe
person portal used by 500 school principals and district leaders to validate the background check
status in real-time of all people entering a school.
• Worked with the Chief Information Officer and IT Senior Leadership Team in the Spring of 2018 to
establish an Enterprise Portfolio Management process to track IT projects across 30+ departments
and an IT Business Liaison program to improve client engagement and formalize annual budget
planning.
• Sponsored a multi-million dollar implementation of an Accounts Payable automation project in 2018 to
introduce touchless invoice processing using digital imaging and Optical Character Recognition
(OCR); selected the vendor, oversaw the implementation team, migrated 1.4 million digital documents
to the district’s private cloud and coordinated the roll out with the CPS Accounting team.
• Built a new Service Management operations team of 8 people in May 2019 to manage and support
ServiceNow, the district’s cloud hosted ticket management platform that handles over 100,000
support tickets annually. Implemented a real-time data dashboard for the CEO to track key
performance metrics across departments including total open tickets, ticket duration, tickets by
category, tickets by department and ticket volume by month.
• Coordinated the technical implementation of a new online school enrollment system for Chicago
families in the Summer of 2017 called Go CPS (go.cps.edu). Key activities included the selection of a
cloud software vendor (SchoolMint), the successful implementation of the online platform and
integration with existing CPS data systems, system performance testing and the launch of a school
locator with geo-location capabilities that allows families to visually map schools closest to their home
address by leveraging the Google Maps API.
• Designed a cloud based IT vendor solicitation process using Bonfire in January 2018 to manage
vendor bids from 50+ companies for staff augmentation and temporary IT staffing.
• Oversaw 12+ new technology projects over the past 3 years to modernize the application portfolio
while teams provided operational support for 125 enterprise applications.

Director of Web Services and Mobile Development - Chicago Public Schools, Chicago,
IL - 2012 - 2016
• Directed enterprise web and mobile application development of 40+ web applications, supporting
40,000 employees and 390,000 students.
• Defined the district’s strategic vision and direction in the following areas: Mobile Web Strategy,
Mobile Web Development, Enterprise Content Management, Web Governance, Content Strategy,
Digital Strategy, SaaS applications, Web Analytics, Web Development, Website Hosting and User
Experience Design.
• Developed short term and long term strategic road maps using an Agile Methodology for web and
mobile software development initiatives to improve information accessibility to 20,000 mobile devices
accessing district information.
• Led 50 technology projects over 4 years with an annual budget of 1.1 million while supporting 40
enterprise web applications and handling 1,000+ web support requests annually using only full time
employees.
• Transformed the primary public web presence ​www.cps.edu​ to become the first large urban school
district in the nation to be mobile device friendly. Established web governance group of 130 web
content authors across 75 business units, upgraded web development process to be “Mobile First”
using responsive web design, implemented Google Search and established unified web standards for
70 different websites across the district.
• Spearheaded moving the help desk support ticketing system to a cloud Software as a Service (SaaS)
provider to lower licensing costs by 22% and consolidate 2 different ticketing systems (HP PPM, HP
Service Manager) into one solution (Service Anywhere). Retired 28 on premise servers to reduce
operating costs and decrease maintenance responsibilities for server administrators.
• Architected a mobile friendly IT help desk statistics dashboard to improve visibility of incident tracking
across IT leadership and drive accountability. Created simple charts and graphs to track 1,200+
active support tickets by priority, assignment group, ticket age and ticket backlog trends.
• Virtualized Production and Development Internet/Intranet web server environments using Hyper-V for
40+ web applications to reduce data center footprint, lower support costs and prepare for migration to
the cloud.
• Implemented a mobile friendly school locator for 680 schools using Google Maps to allow parents and
staff to quickly find info about CPS schools from anywhere on any device at any time.
• Architected and oversaw the development of a unified district calendar web application to capture
events from 75 different business units in one place and present to parents, staff and students.
• Delivered integrated Cloud solutions with the following products: Service Anywhere, Google Search,
Google Apps, Google Maps, Weebly, Daptiv and Emma
• Architected a document management system to digitize 745 property leases and share publicly.
• Innovation Committee Chairman - Led a cross-functional team of 15 employees, one from each IT
segment, through a series of workshops to develop a collaborative culture of innovation across the IT
organization, establish a “one IT team” mindset, share knowledge and build leadership skills.
• Launched the CPS Apps directory, a single starting place for employees to easily access 44 district
web applications.

• Managed the launch of an enterprise district website ​www.cps.edu​ designed to provide Chicago
parents, students and community members with information about district initiatives, programs and
school performance.
• Developed a plan to migrate 40+ data driven web applications to 64 bit virtual servers to decrease
physical server leasing costs, lower electricity usage, and decrease the size of the data center.
• Streamlined software development life cycle for 30 web applications by implementing an automated
build server and web based publishing system to sync content across a load balanced web farm.
• Designed and developed a self service password management website used by 40,000 employees to
reduce help desk calls by 60% and decrease operational costs by $200K annually.
