CAUTION! 1. INORDER TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF THE FUEL CONTROL UNIT RUNNING DRY,
DO NOT CLOSE THE FUEL FIRE SHUT-OFF VALVE DURING THE RUN-DOWN UNTIL THE
ENGINE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP.
2. DO NOT CLOSE THE FUEL FIRE SHUT-OFF VALVE DURING 30 MINNUTES AFTER
SHUTDOWN OF THE ENGINE. IT IS PERMISSIBLE NOT TO CLOSE THE FUEL FIRE SHUT-
OFF VALVE DURING TOE HELICOPTER PARKING. DISREGANRD OF THIS REQUIREMENT
BECAUSE OF FUEL HEATING AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN INCREASES THE FUEL
PRESSURE ABOVE THE TOLERABLE LIMITS AT THE FUEL CONTROL UNIT INLET, WHICH
MAY CAUSE FUEL LEAKAGE THROUGH THE FUEL CONTROL UNIT SEALS AND MAY ALSO
LEAD TO THE HOT ENGINE FAILURE TO START (THE FUEL PRESSUSRE INTERLOCKS
THE LIMIT SWITCH IN THE FUEL CONTROL UNIT FOR THE AIR STARTER CUT-IN).
1. Prior to shutting down the engine, cool it down running at the idling power during 1 to 2 minutes.
NOTE. In the winter conditions, cool down the engine running at the idling power during 2 to 3
minutes.
2. Shut down the engine from the idling power by moving the fuel shout-off valve lever to the
SHUTDOWN (СТОП) position.
CAUTION! IN CASE OF THE FUEL SHUT-OFF VALVE FAILURE, SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE BY
MEANS OF THE FREE TURBINE CIRCULT BREAKER SYSTEM (FREE TURBINE
OVERSPEED PREVENTING SYSTEM). FOR THIS PURPOSE, PERFORM THE FOLLOWING
STEPS:
- set the FT CIRCUIT (КОНТУР СТ) selector switch to the TEST-1 (КОНТРОЛЬ-1)
position;
- increase engine power by means of the separate throttle control lever until the N ft
OVERSPEED (ПРЕЫШЕННИЕ nСТ) annunciator light comes on (for single-rotor

At the rundown less than 30 s, measure a full rundown time of the gas generator rotor, which should not
be less than 40 s (determine the moment when the gas generator rotor ceases to rotate visually by
observing the compressor first stage).
NOTES: 1. When the engine is running down, an insignificant amount of oil may leak from the engine
support assemblies (except for the first one), which is discharged through the drain valve,
from the ejector shroud of the housing of the fourth and fifth support assemblies and through
the drain holes provided inside the exhaust stack (without flow outside) as well as slight
smoke during the running down up to five minutes after the engine shutdown.
2. For decreasing the fuel leakages through the ejector, switch off the booster pumps
immediately after a complete stop of the engine. After shutdown and long-term parking of
the engine, an insignificant leakage of fuel from the ejector without flow from the exhaust
duct is tolerable.
4. In cases of emergency, the engine may be shut down from any operating condition without gradual
deceleration and cooling at the idle power.
Resort to the emergency shutdown if any of the following occurs:
(a) A fire breaks out.
(b) The oil pressure Poil in the engine or main gearbox drops below acceptable limit.
(c) The TIT abruptly increases.
(d) NGG abruptly drops.
(e) A strong flame is observed from the tail pipe.
ACTIONS BY
(f) Fuel is discharged from the tail pipe of the adjacent (inoperative) engine with possible ignition.
(g) An abnormal noise emanates in the area of the main gearbox or main rotor.
(h) A fuel or oil leakage is detected.
(i) A shock of main rotor blades against foreign objects.
CAUTION! FULFIL THE REQUIREMENTS OF «CAUTION» TO STEP 3.4, TASK CARD No. 501.
5. If the engine has been shut down without preliminary cooling, proceed as follows:
(a) Troubleshooting (Ref. Sub-Section «Engine — Trouble Shooting»).
(b) Examine the engines (Ref. Task Card No. 601).
(c) Check the see that the rotors of the gas generator and free turbine are easy to rotate (Ref. Task Card
No. 305).
(d) Carry out a dry motoring run (Ref. Task Card No. 502).
(e) Start and ground test the engine as directed by Task Cards No. 501 and No. 507.
In case of the engine satisfactory condition, the engine may be returned to service.
6. After shutting down the engines and their cooling down to the temperature of +(60 to 80) °C (by feel),
blank off the inlet ducts and tail pipes and cover the power plant.

MS. ITEM PROCEDURE: Adjusting Compressor VGV Angular Setting Characteristic
CORRECTIVE CHECKED
OPERATIONS AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS (T. R.)
ACTIONS BY
1 The slope of the compressor VGV angular setting characteristic must be adjusted by varying the length L 1
of the feedback lever (Ref, Fig. 506). Reduction in the length of the arm causes the angle γ to increase,
while Increasing the length causes the angle γ to decrease (Ref. Fig. 505). Clockwise rotation of the
adjustment screw thru four turns increases the arm length by 2 mm, which corresponds to a 1-deg
change in the angle αVGV at the extreme points of 85 and 95 %. Before proceeding with the adjustment,
unsafety and back off nut Ж (Ref. Fig. 506).
On completion of the adjustment, tighten up nut Ж up to stop and safety it with a cotter pin.
CAUTION: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LINE UP THE COTTER PIN LOCATION HOLES BY BACKING OFF THE
NUT.
2. A parallel shift of the compressor VGV angular setting characteristic is effected by varying length L 2 of
the rod, for which purpose it is necessary to break the seals, unsafety the feedback rod, back off the
locknut, and rotate the nuts as required. Increasing the length of the rod causes the characteristic to shift
upwards on the Chart (towards closure of the angles), while decreasing the length of the rod causes the
characteristic to shift downwards (towards opening of the angles). One complete turn of the turnbuckle
of rod L2 shifts the VGV characteristic by approximately 3 deg.
NOTE: Since the locknut located under the FCU is difficult to reach, it is allowed to leave it locked.
In this case, having backed off nut Ж, remove and turn the front lug of the connecting rod L 2 in
the required direction. One complete turn of the lug causes the VGV characteristic to shift by
approximately 1.5 deg.

adjustment, the VGV characteristic should lie within the zone shown on Figure 505.
4. Using a 0.5-mm dia. safety wire, secure the adjusting elements of the rods and attach seals to the
adjusting elements. While securing rod L 2, bear in mind, that the front and rear ends of the rod are
provided with the LH and RH threads.

Check and adjust the gas generator maximum speed at the takeoff power, limited by the engine electronic
governor (on the technological area) as directed in Task Card No. 515, 072.00.00, Book 3.
1. Preliminary Operations
1.1. Mount the temporary stop on the engine to be tested following the instructions laid down in the
Helicopter Maintenance Manual, having set the engine individual throttle control lever to an angle of
(85+1) deg. against the FCU dial.
1.2. Check and, if necessary, set the speed governor adjustment lever to an angle of (66±2) deg.
1.3. Cut off power synchronizer of the engine under test, having disconnected on the engine which is not

3. Final Operations
3.1. Remove the temporary stop and connect the detached power synchronizer pipe to connection (25)
(Ref. Fig. 404) on the single-rotor helicopter.
1. Set the GG CIRCUIT (КОНТУР TK) to OPERATION (РАБОТА) position (on engines equipped with engine
electronic governors).
2. Check the gas generator rotor speed N GG for absence of cutting down using the main rotor speed
governor at takeoff power (limited takeoff power) [depending on the helicopter model (Ref. Book 3)],
for which purpose proceed as follows:
2.1. Start and warm up the engine (Ref. Task Card No. 501).
2.2. Accelerate the engine to the takeoff power (limited takeoff power) and, by setting the main rotor to
higher pitch, set the main rotor speed equal to (91±0.5) % - for the single-rotor helicopters and
(86.5±0.5) % - for the coaxial-rotor helicopters.
2.3. Note down the value of the stabilized NGG.
2.4. Smoothly moving the main rotor blades to the lower pitch, set the main rotor speed equal to Ref. Fig.115
(94.5±0.5) % - for the single-rotor helicopter and (89.5±0.5) % - for the coaxial-rotor helicopters; in
so doing, the gas generator rotor speed (NGG) cutting down should not exceed 0.5 %.

(a) Angle increase results in increase in the main rotor speed.
(b) Angle variation by 1° changes the main rotor speed by 0.13 %.
3. In case of single-rotor helicopters, when adjustment presents some difficulties, follow the procedure
below, which will assist in defining the required amount and direction of rotation of adjusting screws ④
and ③:
(a) Disconnect the control rod from the main rotor speed governor adjustment lever on one engine and
set the control lever to 66 deg. or to any other required angle, keeping in mind the following: 1-deg
change (as read off the dial) in the angle mean value of 66 deg. causes the main rotor RPM to
change by approximately 0.13 %.
(b) In case of concurred testing of both engines, operate the adjustment selector switch and set the
control lever of the other engine to a position providing for elimination of the fault indicated in

MS. ITEM ROCEDURE: Checking Fuel Control Unit Temperature-Sensing Probe For Serviceability
1. Check the IGV setting angle against the dial, which should be (27 +1.5) °.
2. Apply plasticine to the IGV angle indicator dial so that during the stator vanes displacement, the pointer
leaves a clear trace on plasticine (the dial division should not be closed by plasticine).
3. Start the engine (or attempt to start the engine if it fails to be started).
Shut down the engine after it gains the idling power (or discontinue the engine start after the engine N GG
hang-up).
4. Inspect the IGV dial. By reference to the pointer trace left on the plasticine, determine the angle value
during the engine starting.
5. In case of the angle value decrease by more than 2° of the value indicated in Step 1, replace the Ref. Task Card No. 816.

CORRECTIVE CHECKED
OPERATIONS AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS (T. R.)
ACTIONS BY
1. General.
1.1 This check is performed during the scheduled maintenance sequentially for each of the engines of the
power plant.
1.2. In doing that checked is the "difference in power setting" in regards to the GG rotor RPM when the
adjustment of the PS emergency cut out control valve of the FCU for the engine being checked is
preliminary decreased.
2. Preliminarily operations.
2.1. On the engine being checked decrease the adjustment of the PS emergency cut out control valve with
the aid of adjustment screw ⑧ of the FCU in accordance with Task Card No. 510, Section 073.12.05
(Book 2).
3. Check.
3.1. Perform a sequential start of the both engines (Ref. Section 072.00.00, Task Card No. 501).
3.2. After the engines warming up at idle power setting set the right hand throttle control twist grip rotation
(for single rotor helicopters) or move the collective pitch lever to the AUTOMATIC CONTROL position
(for coaxial rotor helicopters) and make sure the PS emergency cut out control valve of the FCU for the
engine being checked actuates.
The control valve actuation criterion is the occurred difference (more than 2%) in the GG rotor speed
of the engines and further decreasing of the GG rotor speed of the engine being checked relative to
the unchecked (the other) engine.
NOTE: When the engine operates at the right hand throttle control twist grip rotation setting
(AUTOMATIC CONTROL power setting), the throttle control twist grip (collective pitch lever)
should be set at fixed position.
If after the right hand throttle control twist grip rotation entering (AUTOMATIC CONTROL power Replace the FCU in
setting), the PS emergency cut out control valve actuation did not take place, then smoothly increase accordance with Tack.
the power setting of the unchecked engine by the STCL angle increase (lift above the trip catch) until Card. No. 803.
the PS emergency cut out control valve of the engine being checked actuates.
3.3. After the PS emergency cut out control valve actuation it is necessary to check for presence of
synchronization interlock by augmenting of the collective pitch angle ( φCP) up to ~ 4 deg. The
difference in the GG rotor speed of the engines should remain the same or increase.
The main rotor speed value at the moment of the PS emergency cut out control valve actuation should
not exceed: 94% (for single-rotor helicopters) and 89% (for coaxial-rotor helicopters).
CAUTION! IF MAIN ROTOR SPEED EXCEEDS THE LIMITING VALUE, CHANGE THE ENGINES OVER TO
THE IDLE POWER.
CAUTION! Before the next starting of the engines check an engagement of the freewheel clutch of the
both engines with the driven shaft of the main (intermediate) gearbox.
4. Final operations.
4.1. Make the respective entry in the Engine Logbook and FCU Certificate on the check performed.
