Kemampuan berbicara di depan umum sangatlah diperlukan bagi seorang mahasiswa.

Apalagi mahasiwa dikenal sebagai sosok yang kritis dengan pemikiran-pemikirannya yang
cerdas sehingga ia dituntut memiliki rasa kepercayaan diri untuk mengungkapkan
argumentasinya. Namun, pemikiran negatif seperti rasa takut salah akan mengakibatkan
mahasiswa mengurungkan niatnya untuk berpendapat. Oleh karena itu , perlu ditanamkan
pemikiran positif untuk meningkatkan rasa kepercayaan diri seseorang. Hal ini sejalan
dengan pendapat Ibrahim Elfiky (2009:58) dalam bukunya yang berjudul “Terapi Berpikir
Positif” seperti dalam kutipan berikut.

Ini contoh kekuatan pikiran yang menjadi sumber percaya diri. Karena itu, jika Anda
benar-benar ingin meningkatkan dan memperkuat rasa percaya diri, tanamkanlah
pikiran positif. Jadikanlah konsentrasi Anda pada hal-hal positif hingga
menumbuhkan rasa percaya diri, apa pun yang terjadi. Otak akan membukakan file-
file percaya diri yang lebih kuat dan mendalam di ruang memori akal bawah sadar
Anda. Demikian itu sangat berpengaruh pada perilaku dan hasil yang Anda raih.
