Lesson Plan in English 7(Junior High School)

Prepared by: Mr. Ronald C. Mina

I. Objectives:

- At the end of the lesson and discussion, the students will be able to:
1. Master the different basic sentence patterns.
2. Identify the different parts that make up a sentence including the meaning and
its function.
3. Develop communication skills in writing sentence effectively using the different
patterns of sentence.

II. Subject Matter:

 Lesson: Basic Sentence Patterns


 Reference: English Grammar (The Easier Way- Work Text) by Dr. Deborah Javier
pp. 223- 226
 Materials: Visual Aids
 Values: Develop meaningful, clear and respectful expression of ideas and opinion
towards other.

III. Procedures:
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance and classroom arrangement and orderliness.

B. Warm up: (Building Vocabulary)


1. Directions: Arrange the following letter to come up with the correct words.

C ISAB - 1. Forming or relating to the first or easiest part of something


C T E N S E N E – 2. A group of words that expresses a statement, question, command
or wish or simply a complete thought. Basically it has subject
and predicate.
N P A T P R ES – 3. A regular and repeated way in which something happens is done

2. The teacher ask the students of to combine all words to finally know the topic for today.

3. The class will be divided in different groups. Checking of Students’ Schema


(Prior Knowledge)
- Each group is given 5 pieces of bond papers and asked to write the different
ideas they know about the sentence and sentence patterns.

- Each group posts the output on the board and assigns someone from the group
to present it.

C. Presentation of the Lesson


1. Motivation:
- Question: K12 is the most relevant issue today that Filipino students are
dealing with as junior high school student what is your opinion about
K12 Program?

- Five students are given paper strips and write their statement there and post it on
the board.

- After posting, the teacher proceeds in the lesson proper.

2. Discussion

Basic Sentence Patterns


1. Complements- are nouns or adjectives that appear after the direct object
and rename or describe.

Sentence Patterns under Complement:

 S – TV- DO- OC
Examples: The class elected Joan president for the next school year.
S TV DO OC (noun)

After the incident, the boys called Efren a coward.


S TV DO OC (adj)

2. Transitive Verbs – always have direct objects. They direct the action to a person or thing.
Sentence Patterns under Transitive Verbs:

 S- TV- DO
Examples: My niece loves lasagna.
S TV DO

The store manager terminated Andrew.


S TV DO
Note: The direct object answers the question What? And Whom?
What does my niece love? Whom did the store manager terminate?

 S- TV- IO- DO
Examples: Mr. Namoro brought Mr. Ursula some oranges.
S TV IO DO

During the retreat, my friend gave me a souvenir.


S TV IO DO

Note: The indirect object is the person to whom the action is done. In the given
sentence, the act of bringing oranges was doe for Mr. Ursula.

3. Linking Verbs – are used to connect the subject to the predicate noun or predicate adjective.

Patterns under Linking Verbs:


 S- LV- PN
Examples: My neighbour is a circus trainer.
S LV PN

The awardee this year is Mr. Castro.


S LV PN
 S- LV- PA
Examples: Janelle was so stunning in her red gown.
S LV PAdj

The dancers were truly amazing.


S LV PAdj

3. Analysis:
- The teacher focuses on the students’ responses given in the stage of MOTIVATION and ask
them to relate it in the recent discussion. (They can name the pattern used in each statement).

4. Generalizations
- Sentences may be patterned according to the parts of speech that we use.
To simplify, we may group them in the following categories.

 Complements (S- TV- DO- OC)


 Transitive Verbs ( S- TV- DO and S- TV- IO- DO)
 Linking Verbs (S- LV- PA and S- LV- PA)

5. Applications
- The teacher gives the group of students a picture and from the picture they are to
write sentences/ statements that tell something about the picture following the
basic sentence patterns.

- The groups present their output.

IV. Evaluation
- Directions: Indicate whether the underlined word is SUBJECT, TRANSITIVE VERB,
INDIRECT OBJECT or OBJECTIVE COMPLEMENT.

V. Assignment
- Write a paragraph about your plans for this coming vacation. Use the different basic
patterns of sentences. Underline and label the sentences.
