1. SPECIFICATIONS
1.1. ALL WORKS SHALL COMPLY WITH THE MINISTERIO DAS OBRAS PUBLICAS
(PREVIOUSLY MTCPW) STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR ROADS, BRIDGES AND
AIRPORTS 2005, AND WITH THE SPECIAL PROVISIONS & SUPPLEMENTAL
SPECIFICATIONS PERTAINING TO THIS PROJECT.

2. DIMENSIONS
2.1. DISTANCES AND ELEVATIONS SHOWN ON THE PLANS ARE IN METERS (m) UNLESS
OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.
2.2. DIMENSIONS OF CULVERTS, BRIDGES AND OTHER STRUCTURES ARE MEASURED
AND EXPRESSED IN MILIMETERS UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.

3. STATIONING
3.1. STATIONING OF ROAD, BRIDGE, ELEMENTS OF CURVE FOR BOTH HORIZONTAL
AND VERTICAL ALIGNMENTS ARE RECKONED FROM THE ROAD CENTERLINE.
3.2. STATION TICK MARKS ARE SHOWN AT 20m AND STATION LABELS AT 100m
INTERVAL STATIONS ARE SHOWN ALSO AT THE LOCATIONS OF CULVETRS,
BRIDGES AND AT EVERY IMPORTANT POINTS OF HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL
GEOMETRY.

5. HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL ALIGNMENT

5.1. NO ALTERATION/CHANGE IN ALIGNMENT SHALL BE MADE UNLESS EXISTING


FIELD CONDITIONS SO WARRANT AND ONLY UPON APPROVAL OF THE ENGINEER.
5.2. FINISHED GRADE ELEVATIONS SHOWN ON THE PLAN AND THE PROFILE SHEET
REFER TO THE FINISHED GRADE LEVEL AT ROAD CENTERLINE SHOWN ON THE
TYPICAL ROADWAY SECTIONS. MODIFICATIONS CAN BE DONE ON DESIGN
GRADES AND ELEVATIONS ONLY UPON APPROVAL OF THE ENGINEER.
5.3. GROUND LEVEL SHOWN ON THE PLAN AND PROFILE SHEET REFERS TO THE
ELEVATION OF THE ORIGINAL GROUND ALONG THE DESIGN ROAD CENTERLINE.

6. ROAD CONNECTIONS AND SHOULDER IMPROVEMENTS.


6.1. ROAD CONNECTIONS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED BY THE CONTRACTOR AS SHOWN
ON THE PLAN OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER IN SUCH MANNER AS TO
ENSURE SMOOTH CONNECTION AND GOOD RIDING QUALITY.
6.2. THE SHOULDER STRUCTURE IS CRUSH AGGREGATES WITH VARYING WIDTHS. THE
WIDTH MAY BE ADJUSTED DURING CONSTRUCTION TO SUIT EXISTING FIELD
CONDITION UPON APPROVAL OF THE ENGINEER.

7. REMOVAL OF EXISTING UTILITIES, STRUCTURES AND


OBSTRUCTIONS.
7.1. ALL WORKS SHALL COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS OF
CONTRACT OF THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC WORKS.
7.2. PORTIONS OF EXISTING UTILITIES, SUCH AS ELECTRICAL POWER LINES AND
POLES, WATER MAIN LINES, IRRIGATION CHANNELS, ETC, THAT MAY CAUSE
OBSTRACTION TO THE CONSTRACTION OF THIS PROJECT SHALL BE REMOVED
AND/OR RELOCATED BY THE ENTITY OR OWNER CONCERNED. EXTREME
PRECAUTION SHALL BE EXERCISED BY THE CONTRACTOR NOT TO DAMAGE ANY
PORTION OF EXISTING UTILITIES DURING CONSTRUCTION. ANY DAMAGED THERE
SHALL BE REPAIRED OR COMPESATED ON THE ACCOUNT OF THE CONTRACTOR.

8. DRAINAGE STRUCTURES
8.1. EXACT LOCATIONS, SLOPES, OUTFALLS, AND INVERT ELEVATIONS OF DRAINAGE
STRUCTURE SHALL BE CHECKED IN THE FIELD BY THE CONTRACTOR BEFORE

MAKING ANY REMOVAL OR IMPROVEMENT, MINOR ADJUSTMENTS MAY BE MADE


TO SUIT ACTUAL FIELD CONDITIONS UPON APPROVAL OF THE ENGINEER.
8.2. EXISTING DRAINAGE STRUCTURE THAT ARE FAULTY, BROKEN DOWN, OR NOT IN
GOOD WORKING CONDITION SHALL BE DETERMINED IN THE FIELD.
RECONSTRUCTION, REPAIR, OR REPALCEMENT OF SAME SHALL BE DIRECTED BY
THE ENGINEER, AND SHALL CONFORM TO THE STANDARD SHOWN IN THE
DRAWIGNS.
8.3. EXISTING DRAINAGE STRUCTURES OR PARTS THEREOF REMOVED BY THE
CONTRACTOR THAT ARE STILL SERVICEABLE SHALL BE TURNED OVER TO THE
GOVERNMENT AND SHALL BE DEPOSITED AT A PLACE DESIGNATED BY THE
ENGINEER WITHOUT ANY EXTRA COMPENSATION. EXTREME PRECAUTIONS
SHALL BE EXERCISED BY THE CONTRACTOR NOT TO DAMAGE THESE MATERIALS
DURING THE REMOVAL AND HANDLING OPERATION.
8.4. PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF PILE CULVERTS AND OTHER DRAINAGE
STRUCTURES, ALL MATERIALS SHALL BE TESTED TO CHECK ANY DEFECT AND
CONFOMITY WITH TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION.
8.5. TE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF MATERIALS
INSTALLED AND FOUND TO BE DEFICIENT IN WORKMANSHIP AND QUALITY.
8.6. INLETS AND OUTLETS OF NEW AND OPERATIONAL EXISTING CULVERTS SHALL BE
CHANNELIZED AND CLEARED OF DEBRIS AND OBSTRUCTIONS. THIS SHALL BE
CONSIDERED AS SUBSIDIARY OF OTHER DRAINAGE PAY ITEMS.
8.7. ANY REVISION, REMOVAL, CLEANING UNCLOGGING AND OR RE-LAYING OF
DRAINAGE STRUCTURES AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER TO SUIT EXISTING FIELD
CONDITION SHALL BE CONSIDERED AS SUBSIDIARY WORK PERTAINING TO OTHER
CONTRACT ITEMS. NO DIRECT PAYMENT SHALL BE MADE FOR THIS WORK UNLESS
OTHERWISE SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFIED FOR PAYMENT IN THE BID SCHEDULE.

9. OPEN DITCHES (LINE CANAL AND EARTH DICTH)


9.1. ALL DICTHES SHALL COMPLY WITH THE REQUIRED STANDARDS.
9.2. INVERT ELEVATIONS AND EXACT LOCATIONS AND DIMENSION OF OPEN DITCHES
MAYBE ADJUSTED IN THE FIELD AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.

10. MISCELLANEOUS STRUCTURES.


10.1. LOCATION AND LENGTH OF GUARDRAILS, SLOPE PROTECTIONS SUCH AS
GROUTED RIPRAP, STONE MASONRY RETAINING WALL AND OTHER STRUCTURES

10.2. GROUTED RIPRAP / RIPRAP, STONE MASONRY SHOULD BE WELL
CONSTRUCTED AS SPECIFIED IN THE STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR THE SAID
ITEM.
10.3. CUT SLOPE CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE DONE AT PACE WITH EMBANKMENT
CONSTRUCTION TO AVOID SLIDING OF FILL MATERIALS.

11. BIO-ENGINEERING WORKS.


11.1. ALL DIMENSIONS ARE IN MILIMETERS UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.
11.2. USE COCOFIBER NETS.
11.3. USE BAMBOO PEGS FOR ANCHORING THE NETS TO THE GROUND.
11.4. SEE GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR BIOENGINEERING MATERIALS TO BE USED
IN SLOPE PROTECTION.

12.1.1. ALL SCHEDULES/LISTING FOR GUARDRAILS, SLOPE PROTECTION

SCHEDULES/LISTINGS SHOWN ON THE PLANS ARE SUBJECTED TO
ADJUSTMENT/MODIFICATION TO SUIT ACTUAL FIELD CONDITION.THE

3. REINFORCED CONCRETE.
3.1. CAST IN PLACE SHALL BE CLASS “A” UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON THE PLANS,
ALL EXPOSED EDGES SHALL BE CHAMFERED 20 mm EXCEPT RAILINGS AND RE-
ENTRANT ANGLES WHICH SHALL BE CHAMFERED AND FILLETED 13mm
RESPECTIVELY.
3.2. CONCRETE MIX AND PLACING

1. DESIGN OF CONCRETE MIX SHALL MEET THE DESIGN CONCRETE STRENGTH


GIVEN UNDER ITEM 1 OF MATERIAL.
2. CONCRETE SHALL BE DEPOSITED, VIBRATED AND CURE IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE SPECIFICATION.
3. FOR CONCRETE DEPOSITED AGAINST THE GROUND, LEAN CONCRETE WITH A
MINIMUN THICKNESS OF 150mm SHALL BE LAID FIRST BEFORE INSTALLING
THE REINFORCEMENT. THIS LEAN CONCRETE SHALL NOT BE CONSIDERED IN
MEASURING THE STRUCTURAL DEPTH OF CONCRETE SECTION.
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT TO THE ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL PLACING
SEQUENCES FOR ALL CONCRETING WORKS.

3.3. BAR BENDING, SPLICING AND PLACING.


1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT TO THE ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL, SHOP
DRAWINGS INDICATING THE BENDING, CUTTING, SPLICING AND
INSTALLATION OF ALL REINFORCING BARS.
2. BARS SHALL BE BEND COLD. BAR PARTIALLY EMBEDED IN CONCRETE SHALL
NOT BE FIELD BEND UNLESS PERMITTED BY THE ENGINEER.
3. BAR SPLICING NOT INDICATED ON DRAWINGS SHALL BE SUBJECT TO THE
APPROVAL OF THE ENGINEER.
4. WELDED SPLICES, IF APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER, SHALL DEVELOPE IN
TENSION AT LEAST 125% OF THE SPECIFIED YIELD STRENGTH OF THE BARS.
5. NOT MORE THAN 50% OF THE BARS AT ANY ONE SECTION SHALL BE SPLICED.
6. UNLESS OTHERWISE SHOWN ON DRAWINGS, THE CLEAR DISTANCE BETWEEN
PARALLEL BARS IN A LAYER SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN 1.5 TIMES NOMINAL
DIAMETER OF THE BAR NOR LESS THAN 1.5 TIMES THE MAXIMUM SIZE OF
COARSE AGGREGATE.THE CLEAR DISTANCE BETWEE LAYERS SHALL NOT BE
LESS THAN 38 mm NOR ONE BAR DIAMETER. THE BARS IN THE UPPER LAYER
SHALL BE PLACED DIRECTLY ABOVE THOSE IN THE BOTTOM LAYER.

3.4. CONCRETE COVER TO REINFORCEMENT

UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, ALL BAR DIMENSIONS ARE REFERRED TO THE


CENTER OF BARS AND THE MINIMUM COVERING MEASURED FROM THE SURFECE
OF THE CONCRETE TO THE FACE OF ANY BAR SHALL 50mm. FOR SUBSTRUCTURE
PERMANENTLY EXPOSED TO EARTH, COVERING SHALL BE 75mm.

3.5. CONSTRUCTION JOINT.


1. THE POSITION AND FORM OF ANY CONSTRUCTION JOINT SHALL BE AS SHOWN
ON DRAWINGS OR AS AGREED WITH THE ENGINEER.
2. THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND POUR CONCRETE SHALL BE
ROUGHENED WITH AN AMPLITUDE OF 6 MINIMUM.

3.6. FALSEWORK
ALL FALSEWORK SHALL BE DESIGNED BY THE CONTRACTOR SUBJECTED TO THE
APPROVAL OF THE ENGINEEER.

3.7. FORMWORK
FORMWORK SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED SUCH THAT IT WILL NOT YIELD UNDER THE
LOAD AND SHALL BE SUCH AS TO AVOID THE FORMATION OF FINS AT
INTERSECTION OF SURFACES.ALL CORNERS OF CONCRETE MEMBERS SHALL
CHAMFERED TO 25 mm UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE ON DRAWINGS,STRIPPING OF
FORMS AND SHORES SHALL BE AS DESIGNATED BY THE ENGINEER.THE
FOLLOWING MAY BE USED AS A GUIDE.

WIND AND RUNNING WATER AND SHALL BE KEPT DAMP FOR AT LEAST 7 DAYS.

4. EMBANKMENT CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE

ADDITIONAL SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION (BORED HOLES) SHALL BE CONDUCTED
FOR EACH PER OF MAIN BRIDGE AND ABUTMENT LOCATION AND HALF THE NUMBER
OF PIERS FO THE APPROACH SPAN TO CONFIRM/VERIFY THE DESIGN SOIL PROFILE
AND CAPACITY.THE ENGINEER/CONSULTANT MAY RECOMMEND ADDITIONAL
SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION (BOREHOLES).

6. CAMBER

6.1. REINFORCED/PRESTRESSED CONCRETE GIRDERS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED WITH


CAMBER INDICATED IN THE DRAWINGS.

6.2. AFTER ERECTION IS COMPLETE, THE FLANGE ELEVATION OF THE GIRDERS

SHALL BE SURVEYED, BASED ON THE INFORMATION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE


DETRMINE THE HAUNCH HEIGHTS REQUIRED ALLONG THE STRUCTURE. IN ORDER
THAT THE FINISHED GRADE SHOWN IN THE DRAWINGS WILL BE ACHIEVED,
TAKING DUE ACCOUNT OF FURTHER DEFLECTION TO BE INCURRED WHEN THE
DECK AND SIDEWALKS ARE ADDED AND THE ORDER IN ERECTION OF DECK
PANEL IS TO TAKE PLACE.

6.3. THE CONTRACTOR SHOULD PREPARE & SUBMIT A GEOMETRY CONTROL.


REPORT TO THE ENGINEER INDICATING THE ASSUMPTIONS AND CALCULATION
PROCEDURE THAT HAVE BEEN FOLLOWED IN DETERMINING HAINCH HEIGHTS.
THE CONTRACTOR SHOULD MONITOR AND UPDATE THIS REPORT AS NECESSARY
AS ERECTION PROCEEDS.

BOLTS : UNLESS SPECIFIED ALL BOLTS SHALL BE 22.2 mm Ø HIGH STRENGHT


BOLTS CONFORMING TO AASTHO M164 (ASTM A 325) ON STANDARD HOLE
SIZED.
WELDS : UNLESS SPECIFIED WELDS SHALL BE DONE USING E70XX
ELECTRODES AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH AWS SPECIFICATIONS (ANSI/AWS
01.1-94, STRUCTURAL WELDING CODE FOR STEEL ,1994.)

7. ESCAVATION
ESCAVATION FOR STRUCTURE SHALL BE TO THE NEAT LINES OF FOOTING OR AS
SPECIFIED IN THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.

8. WATER ELEVATION
WATER ELEVATION SHOWN ON PLANS ARE APPROXIMATE ONLY ANY VARIATION
FOUND DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL NOT BE CONSIDERED AS BASIS FOR EXTRA
COMPENSATION.
