D. Review
Yesterday we discussed about area, who can Perimeter is the total distance around the
recall the meaning of perimeter? figure.

Very Good.
E. Motivation
Class do you want to play a game? Yes Ma’am.
I have a picture puzzle here. Do want to know
what picture is this? Yes Ma’am
I will group you into two, this will be the group 1
and this will be the group 2, I need 2
representatives each group.
What are you going to do is to arrange this puzzle
to form a picture.
Are you ready? Yes Ma’am.

Now what did your classmates form? A picture of a pool and television.
What is the shape of a television? A square
How many sides are there in square? The square has 4 sides.
Are the sides equal? Yes Ma’am, all sides of a square are equal

How about this pool, what is the shape of this? A rectangle

How many sides are there in rectangle? There are 4 sides and its opposite sides are
equal.
F. Discussion
Class, will you count the square units on the side
of the rectangle.
How many square units are there? We have 2 square units.
What do you call to those square units on the side
of a rectangle? Those are the length of the rectangle.
Very Good!
How about on the top of the rectangle, how many
square units do we have? We have 4 square units.
And what do we call to those square units? Those are the width of the rectangle.
Very good.
All in all how many square units do we have? We have12 square units.
Base on the example what is the formula in getting
The perimeter of the rectangle? Perimeter = length + length+ width+ width
or P= 2l x 2w
Why? Because as you can count square units there
are 16 square units, we add twice the length
and twice the width.

Very good.
Now will you show the solution on the board? Yes Ma’am
P= l+ l + w + w
P= 2+2+4+4
P= 12 square units.

Very good. Did you understand? Yes Ma’am

Now let’s count the square units of a square.
How many square units are there in side of the There are 4 square units.
square?
How about on the top of the square? There are also 4 square units.
All in all how many square units do we have? There are 16 square units.
Base on the example what is the formula in getting
The perimeter of the square? Perimeter = s+s+s+s
All sides of the square are equal so we get
Why?
the perimeter of the square by adding its all
equal sides.

Very good.
Now will you show the solution on the board?
P = s+s+s+s
P= 4+4+4+4
P=16
Did you understand our lesson class? Yes ma’am
Now I have here a 2 word problems.

1. The Philippine flag has the length of 12 cm

and a width of 20 cm. what is it the perimeter?

2. Ruth has made a 10cm square cake. What is

the perimeter of a cake?

In solving word problems, what should we

remember? The steps in solving word problems.
And what are the steps in problem solving?
1. What is asked?
2. What are given?
3. What operation to be used?
4. What is the number sentence?
Very good. 5. What is the answer?
Now what is asked in the first word problem? What is the perimeter of a Philippine flag.
What are given?
12 centimeters long and 20 centimeters
wide.

What operation to be used? The operation to be use is addition.

What is the number sentence? 12 centimeters+ 12 centimeters+ 20

centimeters + 20 centimeters = N
What is the answer? 12cm+12cm+20cm+20 cm= 64 centimeters
Very good class
How about in the second problem.
What is asked? What is the perimeter of a cake?
What are given? 10 centimeters
Addition.
What operation to be use?
What is number sentence? 10centimeters+ 10 centimeters+10
centimeters+ 10 centimeters= N
What is the answer? P= 10cm+10cm+10cm+10cm= 40 cm
G. Practice Exercises
I have here another example. Find the
perimeter of the following: Answers:

P= l+l+w+w
1. L= 10cm
P=10+10+5+5 = 30 cm
W=5cm
P= s+s+s+s
P= 5+5+5+5 = 20 in
2. S= 5in
P= l+l+w+w
3.L= 9cm P= 9+9+6+6 = 30 cm
W=6cm

. P= s+s+s+s
P= 3+3+3+3 = 12 cm
4. S= 3cm

P= s+s+s+s
5. S= 6cm P= 6+6+6+6 =24 cm

Did you understand our lesson class? Yes maam.

Now for your better understanding let sing
the perimeter song.
Perimeter Song Perimeter is all the sides
Perimeter is all the sides Oh oh don’t you know
Perimeter is all the sides perimeter is all the sides
Oh oh don’t you know
perimeter is all the sides we add up all the sides
we add up all the sides we add up all the sides
oh oh don’t you know
we add up all the sides
we add up all the sides.
oh oh don’t you know
we add up all the side.
H. Generalization
How do we get the perimeter of the square and By adding the length of its side.
rectangle?
What is the formula in getting the perimeter of the P= l+l+w+w
rectangle?
