Chapter 2

METHODOLOGY

This portion describes the research design, the setting,

the respondents of the study, the data gathering procedures, and

the data analysis employed to answer the problems posted earlier

in chapter 1.

Research Design

A descriptive, survey research design was chosen by the

researchers to conduct the study in order to determine the

difficulties of students in learning mathematics.

Setting of the study

The research was conducted in Corpuz National High School,

a public school located in Sta. Cruz, Del Monte, Talacogon,

Agusan del Sur.

Respondents of the study

The respondents of the study are the Grade 7 students of

Corpuz National High School.

Research Instrument

In data gathering, the researchers were questionnaires. The

questionnaire or the research instrument was research made and

was divided into 3 factors: Attitudes, Skills, and Concepts.

The ranking were described as follows: (5)Palagi,

(4)Madalas, (3)Minsan, (2)Paminsan-minsan, (1)Hindi.

Data Gathering and Procedures

The researcher employed the procedure below in order to

gather the data and conduct the study carefully:

In the first phase, the researcher devised an instrument

that would measure the factors affecting the students about

their Learning Difficulties in Math subject. Then had the

instrument administered to few students as a sort of validation.

After the validation the researcher asked permission from the

principal to conduct the study using students as respondents.

When the instrument was ready and permission was granted,

the researcher conducted the survey.

Data Analysis

The data collected were tabulated and coded for analysis.

Percentage and frequency counts were used in determining the

profile of the respondents. The mean ratings of the respondents

on the level of Learning Difficulties in Math on the following:

Attitudes, Skills and Concepts was used the respondents

evaluated on the level of Learning Difficulties in Math on the

following: Attitudes, Skills and Concepts using a five-point

scale that has the following descriptive equivalents.

Numerical Rating Descriptive Rating

5 Palagi

4 Madalas

3 Minsan

Data Analysis and Statistical Treatment of Data

The data collected were tabulated and coded for analysis.

Percentage and frequency counts were used in determining the

profile of the respondents. The mean ratings of the respondents

was used as statistical treatment to represent the values of

groups and class.
