What is the CNC Machine Operation?

 CNC Machine Operation :- There are the

following operation which can be performed on cnc machine are

1. Facing

2. Turning

3. Taper Turning

4. Eccentric Turning

5. Chamfering

6. Grooving

7. Knurling

8. Parting Off

9. Drilling
10.Reaming

11. Milling

12. Grinding

13. Boring

14. Counter Boring

15. Forming

16. Spinning

17. Threading

 Facing :-
Facing is the Operation in which end face of the work piece to be
machined. Which is held in chuck?Facing is used for reducing the length
of the work piece by machining or cutting the end face of work piece .
Facing operation is carried out by using a turning insert. The operation
involves feeding the tool perpendicular to the axis of work piece from
outer surface to the centre. In facing operation the length of the tool
travel is equal to the half of the diameter of the job.

 Turning :-
Turning is the most basic lathe operation in which excess material from
the work piece is removed to produce a cylindrical surface or reduce its
diameter. In turning operation the length the job is held between centers
or in chuck and rotate at the desired speed. Then giving a proper depth
of cut in radial direction the tool is moved longitudinally to the head
stock to the given feed. This reduces the diameter of work piece as
designed. Reduction in the diameter of the job depend upon the depth
of cut . The tool used for turning operation is called turning tool (Insert).

 Taper Turning :-
A taper may be defined as a uniform increase or decrease in diameter of
a work piece measured along its length. The lathe operation produce
external conical surface on a work piece is known as tapper turning.

 Eccentric Turning :-
If the turning operation is carried out at a certain distance away from the
center of the work piece is called eccentric turning. The feed and speed
in eccentric operation is very low.

 Chamfering :-
The cnc turning operation of beveling the sharp edge or end pace of the
work piece with the help of turning insert is known as chamfering.
Chamfer provides on the edge of a work piece help to avoid injury to
hand when handling it. Chamfering is an essential operation after the
cutting thread so that the nut may pass freely on the threaded work piece.
 Grooving :-
The CNC turning operation of reducing the diameter of work piece over
a very narrow surface is known is as grooving. The work piece is revolve
at slow speed (half of turning speed) and the grooving tool is fed straight
in the work piece . Depending on the shape of the tool grooving shape
may be square , round or beveled.

 Knurling :-
Knurling is the process of embossing a diamond shaped pattern on the
surface of a work piece. The purpose of knurling is to provide an
affective gripping surface on work piece to prevent it from slipping when
operated by hand. The tool used for knurling operation known as
knurling tool and moved longitudinally against a revolving work piece
surface.

 Parting off :-
The CNC Turning operation of cutting a work piece from long bar and
after it has been machined to desired size and shape, is known as parting
off. The operation is carried out with the tool called Parting tool. In
parting operation the work piece rotate in a chuck and the toll fed in the
w/p with narrow parting off tool perpendicular the lathe axis.

 Drilling :-
The operation of producing a hole or enlarging an already existing cylindrical
hole with the help of a drilling tool is known as drilling. In which work piece is
held in a chuck or on a face plate..

 Reaming :-
Reaming is the operation of finishing and sizing an already drilled with
a reaming tool called reamer.

 Boring :-
The operation of enlarging an already existing cylindrical hole with the
help of a boring tool is known as boring. Boring is similar to turning
operation. And it can be performed in a cnc turning by the following
method depending upon the size and shape of the job. The boring
operation done by tool known boring bar.

 Counter Boring :-
The process of boring a hole to more than one diameter on the
same axis is known as counter boring.

 Milling :-
The operation of revolving metal by feeding the work piece against e
performed on a cnc with the help of a milling attachment (or cutter). A
rotating cutter having multiple cutting edges is known as milling.
 Grinding :-
The operation of removing metal in the form of minute chips by rotating
abrasive wheel is known as grinding.
External and internal grinding both can be performed using a grinding
attachment.
The work piece is held between centers or in a chuck while the grinding
wheel is fed longitudinally.

 Forming :-
The lathe operation of turning a convex, concave or any irregular shape
known as forming.
Forming may be accomplished by the following method
1. By forming tool
2. By simultaneous cross and longitudinal feed.
3. Tracing a template.

 Spinning :-
The cnc operation of forming a thin sheet of metal by revolving the work
piece at light speed and pressing it with a spinning tool against a former
attached to the head stock spindle is known as spinning
 Threading :-
The process of cutting threads on a work piece is known as threading.
Thread cutting is the operation of producing a helical groove of specific
shape say V or square by cylindrical surface.
In external threading the thread generated on the outer surface of the
work piece
In internal threading the thread generated on the inside surface of the
work piece
