HOTELS IN ROMANIAHotel is an accommodation structure
arranged in buildings or clusters of
buildings, making available for customers
rooms, studios or apartments with a
proper arrangement, which provides
specific services and has a reception and
spaces for public alimentation
Booking
Booking a hotel room can be made
individually or through a travel agency.
Usually, if the services of a travel agency are used, the booking of a hotel is made a
few months earlier before planning the holiday, while the individual booking can be
made, for example on the Internet, a week before the holiday.
If the hotel booking is made individually, the hoteliers can request a deposit or
details referring to the credit card
Generally, details referring to the credit card are requested in order to verify the
availability of reservation amounts or to guarantee the price of the room will be
paid, The amount corresponds to the accommodation fee for the first night, and
will be retained from the consumer's account in case he doesn't use the booking
and doesn't cancel it in due time. Some times the amount corresponds to the
integral costs of the booking.
The hotel can establish a limit of time until when the cancellation of the booking
can be made without the obligation of paying any kind of penalties or taxes. In case
of cancellation after this deadline, the hote! can ask penalties from the consumer or
can retain the amount of this penalty directly from the consumer's card.
The value of the penalty is decided by each hotel and can vary from the fee for the
first night to the fee for the whole period of accommodation.
As the credit card data is used only for guarantees in most cases, the payment of the
reserved services is made at the hotel reception in the moment of arrival, where in
1principle any kind of accepted payment method is available.
In Romania tourists have the obligation of paying a
tourist tax. The amount is established by the local

Tariffs/prices authorities and is comprised between 05% and 5%
in the case of accommodation in units placed in a
tourist resort, depending on the hotel class. The tax
isincludedin the final price.
The tariff must be indicated with in a clear way, with
alltaxes (including VAT) included.
Generally, the accommodation fee includes the
breakfast, consumers being informed when it is not
the case.
The fee is paid for the whole period of staying, excepting the units placed in a tourist
resort, when the fee is paid fora single night, irrespective of the real staying period.
Check-in/Check-out
Generally, the check-in is made in the morning, but
the check-in hours can differ hotel to hotel. It is
indicated to ask for check-in/out information (in
case this is not provided when booking) at the hotel.
The check-out is made generally around noon.
When checking-in the traveler must fill in a standard
form with his identity data and sign it. |f a traveler
does not have any identity paper, accommodation is
forbidden.Hotel classification
a) General
Hotels in Romania are classified by the Ministry of Tourism, the only institution able
to have activities of authorization in the domain of tourism. The classification is
made based on the building characteristics, quality of equipments and of services.
The hotel classification uses a system of stars (from 1 to 5 stars) awarded on the
basis of respecting a number of minimum compulsory criteria and gathering a
number of points (different for each category). For 1 star hotels, the points system
doesn't apply.
The category of classification must be indicated on a board placed outside the
building and onstickers placed in access points for tourists.

. room with individual bed with a width of 90 cm minimum, destined to be
used by one person;
. room with matrimonial bed with a width of 140 cm minimum, destined to
3be used by one or two persons;
. room with double bed with a width of 160 cm minimum, destined to be
used by two persons;
. rooms with two, three or four individual beds;
. suite meaning two rooms functioning together or separately;
. studio meaning a space comprising a dormitory for two persons, salon and
individual bathroom;
. apartment meaning a space comprising one or more dormitories (max. 5),
salonand individual bathroom.
The minimum length of beds is 200 cm for 3, 4 and 5 stars hotels and 190 cm in case
of Land 2stars hotels.
Before occupying the room it is advised to verify if it
corresponds to the description made by the hotel
Problems or the travel agency.
If the room doesn't correspond he can request the
decrease of accommodation fee.
Irrespective of the booking modality, the tourist can
make a reclamation referring to the state and
functioning of equipments to the organisms able to
take measures at the phone numbers listed at the
reception.
If the room's booking was made through a travel
agency as a part of a travel package, the tourist has the right to request other
accommodation alternatives without supplementary costs, or a refund of the
difference between the amount paid and the value of services offered.
In case of theft from the hotel rooms, the responsibility of the hotel can only be
engaged if its fault can be proven or in case the goods of the tourist have been
entrusted to the hotel for safe keeping.
The tourist has to announce the theft at the hotel reception and at the police
