Topic 1. Definition of grammar and vocabulary
Activity 1. Recognize the different definitions for grammar and vocabulary.
Activity 2. Read "Grammar and grammars" and "What is involved in learning a
word?" Then, write in an online text your own definitions about vocabulary and
grammar
Activity 3. Produce a summary in which you highlight important points of the two
texts you read in the previous activity
Activity 4. Answer some questions in an online text

Topic 2. Knowledge of grammar and vocabulary: form, meaning and use.
Activity 1. Read "Teaching grammar in context" and "How words are learned". After
that, produce a summary: highlight the most important points of the readings
Activity 2. Write an essay
Activity 3. Read "How to present vocabulary" and participate in the forum
"Vocabulary" answering some questions.
Activity 4. Write a reflection in an online text

Topic 1. Approaches to grammar teaching: deductive and inductive
Activity 1. Read "Presenting and practicing grammar points". After that, do an
exercise in an online text.
Activity 2. Read the grammar teaching situation, then, participate in the forum
“Grammar Teaching". After that, read all the contributions by your colleagues and
reply them stating your agreement or disagreement.
Activity3. Read the ways of presenting grammar points; then, do the comparative
chart describing their advantages and possible disadvantages.
Activity 4. Read "Goals for Teaching Grammar". Then, produce an essay reflecting
on the goal of grammar teaching in the language classroom

Topic 2. Techniques for teaching vocabulary: guessing from the context, word
formation, association, derivation, collocation, semantic field, synonym, antonym,
hyponym
Activity1. Read and analyze the beliefs relating to the teaching of vocabulary. After
that, answer some questions in an online text
Activity 2. Read and give answer to the following questions participating in the
Forum: “Vocabulary Learning". Once you have posted your learning experience, read
your colleagues´ contributions and set your personal point of view about three of
them
Activity 3. Read "How the learner discovers meaning", "Words and their meanings"
and "How to present vocabulary". After that, write an essay

vocabulary
Activity 1. Read "A practical approach to vocabulary reinforcement. Then,
participate in the forum Semantic feature"
Activity 2. Design a semantic feature analysis activity using a category such as
“games”. Then, participate in the forum "Semantic feature analysis".

Topic 2. Strategies for error correction and how to give feedback


Activity 1. Read the text "How to deal with grammar errors", after that, answer
some questions
Activity 2. Do an exercise about identifying the errors
Activity 3. Write an essay

Topic 3. Principles for grammar and vocabulary lesson planning


Activity 1. Read "Preparation for a grammar lesson", then, participate in the forum
"lesson preparation" answering some questions
Activity 2. Complete a chart writing some characteristics for each stage of the
grammar lesson
Activity 3. Read "How to present vocabulary" and participate int he forum
"Vocabulary" answering some questions
Activity 4. Read the text "How to Present Vocabulary" and answer some questions
Activity 5. Read the text "Preparation for the grammar lesson" and answer some
questions
Activity 6. Design a lesson plan in which you integrate activities that evaluate your
students’ domain of grammar and vocabulary and videotape yourself implementing
the class (12 minutes).
