Foundation Mathematics Unit 1 & 2

Work Requirements and SAC’s

Each Unit will consist of:

 Topic Tests
 Investigation
 Exam

A grade for each of these 3 things will be given in your report at the end of each semester.

and
2. A unit result – ‘S’ or ‘N’
 In order to receive an ‘S’ you must meet each of the following 3 outcomes, as outlined by the VCAA:

Outcome 1: Applying mathematics to routine calculations and standard applications.

This outcome is graded according to a student’s ability to explain and demonstrate key concepts and skills. The grade is
based on topic tests throughout the semester, bookwork and skill building exercises.

ALL School Assessed Coursework will need to receive a grade of at least 40 %.

If you DO NOT achieve a grade of at least 40 % on a SAC, then you will need to complete one of the following to
receive an ‘S’: repeat a similar task, re-sit the task, complete additional work in your workbook, complete the set work
in your workbook. THIS will be done in your own time.

Outcome 2: Applying key concepts and skills to non-routine situations.

This outcome is graded according to a student’s ability to use mathematics in problem solving and practical application.
The grade is based on problem solving activities, application project and assignments undertaken during the semester.

Outcome 3: Technology (All students are required to have a graphical calculator)

Students are required to use technology to assist with the solution of mathematical problems and projects in routine and
non-routine applications.

 Finishing work that has not been completed in class
