Introduction
Large proportion of the employees in Nepal Electricity Authority is working in the power production
and distribution centres. Producing hydro-electric power in power plants is limited to remote areas
and there is no easy access to the city and towns for consulting any kinds of support and marketing
of essential spare parts, Repair and maintenance of power stations is a vital job for the continue and
successful production of the power as well, The operation and maintenance of power station depends
upon the qualification, skill and motivation of the technicians working in the particular work stations.

To update the technicians in their jobs, Nepal Electricity Authority Training centre has launched a
number of training based on the operation and maintenance of power stations including some specific
maintenance training as well. The training on Turbine Maintenance and Approaches was
conducted for technician having mechanical background, the co9mmon and minor technical
problems can be solved by the technician's problems being observed in the workings period can be
minimized by training the proper technicians. Almost maintenance problems can be solved by using
basic hand tools and other machines like lathe, drilling, grinding, sawing and welding etc, Training
Center has trained the technician for identifying the problem frequently encountered in turbines and
their accessories; its maintenance including the operation of different types of turbines and its
accessories, starting from the theoretical concept, different practical aspects and visualizations were
made to understand the different machines in the hydro power system. A number of field visits were
made to sharpen the knowledge of the trainees.

Initiation
The training for updating the technicians of assistant level in operation and maintenance of hydro
mechanical and electromechanical equipments in hydro power stations with the course title of
Turbine Maintenance and Approaches was attempted to run in the second time in the history of
NEA Training Center. Realizing the importance and need based training for the power stations, it was
decided to run the trainings based on Maintenance of hydro mechanical equipments in power
stations, the technicians are trained for the common problems they have to deal with and resolve it.
Likewise, they are trained for the latest technology and the maintenance procedure developed in the
later years.

Since this training was conducted for the second time in NEA, the course was designed by an expert
team from NEA. the course design was based on the lifelong experience of the experts and the
theoretical inputs of the fresh Engineers from NEA. The competencies of the syllabus depend upon
the efficient resource persons and the prompt field visits.

Training Performance

Department were present in the training. All the trainees, allocated in this training, were participated
in the training.
The training was conducted in two modes, i.e. theory and practical. Theory classes were divided into
two categories like lecture delivery and interaction. The theory classes were conducted by high level
officers and engineers from NEA and practical classes were conducted by the instructors from the
concerned power stations and substations. The trainees were taken to LDC (Load Dispatch Center),
NEA to notify the working of LDC, response of LDC and power stations etc. Also, they were taken
to Bhotekoshi, Sunkoshi and Sanima Hydropower stations in Sindhupalchoke district of Nepal. They
were notified for the different components of turbine and its accessories, operating machines and
their maintenance problems in the visited power stations.
In the closing and certificate distribution ceremony, certificate distribution and closing speech as well
as special thanks to all the participants was done by the director of training center, Mr. Thakur Raj
