CORPORATE POLICY STATEMENT

The company is committed to providing employees, staff, contractors, vendors, suppliers and
stakeholders with a productive, safe and healthy working environment that protects from all injury,
work-related illness and potential hazards to their wellbeing. As part of the company’s duty to care,
all reasonable practical steps are taken to identify hazards that could cause harm and to undertake,
an evidence-based assessment of the risk associated with the hazard.

The company aims to be a total smoke free environment on its premises and open spaces. This will
reduce potential harm from second hand/passive smoke from the use of tobacco, provide an
environment that encourages persons to be tobacco free, encourage a more sustainable
environment and promote a culture of wellness.

As stated SMOKING IS PROHIBITED:

1. Inside company premises, facilities, offices, aquarium sections, comfort rooms,


pantry, parking area, and company vehicles.

2. Within twenty five (25) feet of building/company premises, including the parking
area.

3. Smoking is prohibited at all times and without exception in the premises, open
spaces.

1. PURPOSE
1.1 The company. recognizes that tobacco use is a leading cause of preventable
illness, diseases and death in the Philippines and that exposure to second hand smoke
contributes significantly to preventable illness, disease and death.

1.2 This policy aims to provide a safe and healthy working environment and it ensures compliance
with Executive Order No.26 (Providing for the Establishment of Smoke-Free Environments in
Public and Enclosed Places) that invokes the Clean Air Act of 1999 (R.A 8749) and Tobacco
Regulation Act of 2003 (RA 9211).

1.3 This policy aims to preserve an image of a clean workplace and to avoid fires from discarded
cigarettes.

2. SCOPE
2.1 This policy applies to all employees working inside the company regardless of their working
status, vendors, suppliers, contractors and visitors.

3. TERMS AND DEFINITION


3.1 Smoking
The inhalation and exhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco, herbs or drugs derived or
containing products, including and not limited to cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars,
pipes and similar products.

3.2 Tobacco Products


Includes all tobacco, cigarette, cigar, water pipe or any other products containing tobacco
designed for human consumption or use.
3.3 Second Hand Smoker (SHS)
Secondhand smoke is called environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). It’s a mixture of two (2)
forms of smoke that come from burning tobacco.
Mainstream smoke, the smoke inhaled by a smoker. Sidestream smoke, smoke from lighted
end of cigarette, pipe of tobacco burning.

3.4 Clean Air Act


The Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999 (Republic Act No.8749). This outlines the government
measures to reduce air pollution.

3.5 Smoke Free

Limits or eliminates the use of smoke-producing tobacco. The primary concern of a smoke
free policy is second hand smoke.

4. RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY


4.1 Managers and Supervisors

 Managers, aquarium supervisors, and heads shall be responsible to ensure that


his/her staffs, team members, suppliers, vendors and visitors are well aware and
informed of this policy.
 Ensure that the policy is enforced.
 Ensure complains with regard to alleged breaches of the policy are investigated and
dealt quickly and effectively.

4.2 All Employee

 Shall not smoke anywhere inside the company premises, open space and or in
company vehicles.
 Shall cooperate in the implementation of this policy.
 Shall request people who are smoking to cease/stop smoking; otherwise report the
matter to Human Resource Department.
 Shall follow a request, if asked to cease smoking inside company premises, open space
or in company vehicles.

4.3 Human Resource Department

 Shall be responsible for providing necessary disciplinary actions to any person who
violates the policy after they investigate any incidents thoroughly.

5. POLICY IMPLEMENTATION

The successful implementation of this policy depends on the cooperation and strong
enforcement of the entire company. Key strategies shall be:

5.1 The policy shall be communicated in all departments, sections and employees working in the
company. Dissemination of this policy shall be through electronic mail, memorandum and
bulletin announcements.
5.2 Appropriate signage “NO SMOKING” shall be prominently displayed inside the company (each
aquarium sections, offices, warehouses and comfort rooms) and its premises to inform the
employees, vendors, suppliers and visitors of the Smoke Free Policy.

5.3 Educating the employee and aquarium supervisors, on how to politely remind persons not
complying with the policy to respect the company policy.
5.4 All employees working in the company shall share the responsibility to comply and enforce
the policy and shall have the responsibility for bringing it to the attention of vendors, suppliers
and visitors.
5.5 Smoking is prohibited in all internal and external (outdoor) areas within the premises of
the company including:

 Working Areas / Aquarium Areas and Offices


 Hallways
 Staircases
 Restrooms
 Warehouses
 Company vehicles
 Pantry and Kitchen Areas
 Gate entrance
 Parking Area

6. MONITORING AND EVALUATION

The implementation of the smoke-free work place and programs shall be monitored and `
evaluated periodically by the company to ensure that the goal of a smoke free work place is
met.
