About Me
-I love Environmental systems so much I majored in
it at Whitman College!
-I want you as a student to feel successful and take
away valuable information
- I am here to help you achieve your best (gaurdians and students please please reach out! I
can not help you if I do not know you are struggling)

Expectations:
- I expect the very best out of each and every one of my students!
- Each student will treat each other with the utmost respect.
- Each student will treat the teacher and all school property with the utmost respect.
- Come to class on time, prepared, with your materials ready to go and be ready to
learn!
- Be an advocate for yourself and come to me with any questions or concerns.

Materials Needed: Students need to be prepared in class with the following:

- Yourself!! - Notebook paper

- Colored pens/ pencils - up to date on class Calendar
- Pencils and an eraser - Highlighters
- Binder

Electronics: Assume Electronic devices are not allowed unless told otherwise. There will
be times in which we use them but unless I tell you, the phone should not be out. If you
absolutely need to check your electronic device, ALWAYS ask permission before using it.
Failure to ask permission will result in the loss of the device for the remainder of the class
period. Repeat offenders will need a parent to pick up the device from the office.

Bathroom: Use the sign out sheet on the teacher’s desk. As long as you do not abuse this,
you can go when you need. Please don’t cause any class interruptions
Grading Scale:
A=100-93.0% A- =92.9-90.0% B+=89.9-87.0%
B=86.9-83.0% B- =82.9-80.0% C+=79.9-77.0%

- I do not round grades, if you receive an 89.99% your grade will be a B+.
- All written work must be legible. If it is not readable, it is not gradable.
- Late work MUST be completed and turned in to me.
- Test retakes ARE ALLOWED i f you score below an 80%. You have two weeks from
when you get your original test back to retake the test. Two things must happen: 1)
provide evidence of work to improve your score 2) Consult with me on a make-up
time/date. You will get the higher of the two scores.
** I do expect all work and assignments to be completed on time and of your highest quality. I hold
academic integrity to the highest regard, there is absolutely no excuse for cheating of any
sort. Any cheating will result in an automatic zero for the person caught cheating and the
person they are cheating off of (if the second party is knowingly participating). I am always
willing to help and assist, I request you come to me with any questions or concerns. **

Grading:
In Alignment with Issaquah School District Grading Project, I plan to focus on students
learning. Assessments are a large portion of students’ grades but please review my retake
policy :)
65 % Assessments (unit tests)
25 % Performance (Labs and Projects)
10% Final

Unit Tests/ Assessments (65%): Tests will be given approximately every 3-4 weeks.
These will be over the entire unit and may have multiple choice, short answer, matching or
labeling questions on it. There will be pop quizzes that will fall into participation but will be
useful preparation and practice for the exams.

Labs (25%): Many of the labs will be conducted outdoors, especially in the fall and spring.
If the class is planned to be outside, you will be notified a day ahead of time. Please bring or
wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Misbehavior on these expeditions may result in no
further participation outdoors and alternative assignments/ projects will be given.

Semester final (10%):

Cumulative over the semester. Variety of questions. Mostly short answer with some fill in
the blank, matching, and multiple choice.

Make Up Work:
- All assignments will be posted on the class website. Please refer to the website when you
are absent. You are still responsible for doing the work when you are absent.
- You have as many days as you were absent to make up your work.
- Exceptions for vacations, hospitalizations, or any other unique circumstances to this
rule are accepted on a case by case basis by the teacher. In these cases, the student
and teacher will form a contract for the work to be completed.
Disciplinary Consequences:

General (depending on the nature) Cheating (refer to student handbook for

1) Loss of participation points definition of cheating)
2) Parent phone call 1st offense: 0% on test or assignment
2) Administrative write up 2nd offense: Failing grade in class

Walking Field Trip Form

As this is an environmental class, it is the nature of the course to spend time outside. This
will include going out to the Skyline Forest, which entails walking on uneven terrain in
inclement weather (at times). It is advised that students bring appropriate footwear (rain
boots) and coats with hoods. Closed toed shoes on days when we go outside is highly
advised to avoid stubbing toes.

I/We GRANT permission for this student to partake in outdoor environmental activities
located in the Skyline High School Forest.
