Part A
Q. No. 1.State whether the following statements are true or false [Marks = 10 x 1 = 10]
a. The strength of a yarn depends on the weakest point
b. As per as 4 point system for inspection, a maximum 10 point can be penalized for the
most severe fault
c. Parameters like air-permeability, thermal insulation, absorbency etc. decides the
physio-thermal comfort of a fabric
d. The testing instrument ‘weather-o-meter’ is used to measure the colour fastness to
rubbing
e. Stiffness of a fabric is generally evaluated by its bending length
f. A flame resistant fabric is one which will propagate flame with great difficulty
g. ‘Edge abrasion’ usually occurs in cuffs and collar of men’s shirt
h. The standard temperature maintained in a textile testing lab is 32oC
i. The colour fastness to washing is evaluated by grey scales rating from 0-5
j. The GSM of a fabric depends on the yarn count, epi and ppi
1. As a textile designer, you run a design studio. You want to create a printed bed linen
collection for one of yours valuable clients. What parameters would you test before
making final product? Explain with reasons.
2. Describe six sigma methodologies.
3. What are important care instructions for textile products? Describe them with
suitable symbols.
4. Describe procedures of testing of color fastness to crocking on textile fabric.
5. What are different methods of testing of fabric breaking strength of woven fabrics?
Describe any one of them.
6. Describe fabric flammability test using 45 degree Angle Test.
Part – D
(i) In a spinning shed, 8 ring frames were producing yarns of 30s (Ne) nominal count. The actual
counts were 29.5, 31.0, 29.5, 31.5, 30.0, 30.2, 29.8 and 29.0. Find out the standard Deviation
(SD) and Coefficient of Variation (CV) of yarn counts.
OR
(ii) Find out the Arithmetic Mean (AM) of 4, 2 and 9 with frequencies (or weights) 2, 5 and 3
respectively.
[3 + 4 + 3 = 10]
