Course Description: This course entails a study of the concepts, processes and interventions
associated with the recruitment, selection, employment and retention of
individuals in organizations. Staffing plays important role in achieving a
competitive advantage through adopting staffing plans and strategies in line
with the business strategies of the firm. Attention in the first part of the course
will be given to reviewing the attributes of effective staffing strategies and
procedures with attention then given to evaluating methods of recruitment and
selection used by organizations in light of those attributes. Theory, research,
and organizational practices will be considered through the use of readings,
lecture/discussions, cases and exercises.
Course Objective: 1. write sound job descriptions, job specifications and job postings.
2. Identify Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other (KSA&O) human
qualities required to perform a job successfully.
3. Develop a structured, job-related interview for employment
screening.
4. Choose among commercially available testing procedures as
appropriate.
5. Design and implement a validation study.
6. Identify legal and ethical concerns in hiring.
Course Outcomes: By the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Describe the strategic importance of staffing.
2. Understand the impact of the internal and external environment on
staffing.
3. Evaluate the current issues and methodologies used in recruitment
and selection.
4. Explain the interdependence of staffing with other HRM functions.
5. Review and analyze relevant employment legislation.
6. Develop and apply interview techniques.
7. Develop an equitable recruitment and selection process clearly
demarcating necessary components to contribute to organizational
effectiveness.
8. Develop and conduct/use organizational analysis, process analysis
and job analysis information to determine position/job requirements
and an organization’s human resources requirements.
9. Discuss current issues in staffing.
Policies for scholastic Scholastic honesty is an educational objective of KAU, and foundation upon
conduct which academic integrity rests.
Due to following reasons the instructor will give a lower grade or fail a student
depending upon the severity of the case:
1. Students’ scholastic honesty demands the pursuit of scholarly activity
free from fraud, deception and unauthorized collaboration with others.
Scholastic dishonesty includes: cheating, collaborating on assignments,
submitting work or written materials which have been prepared by
another person and plagiarism.
2. Copying another person's answers in an assignment, paper, project
report, etc. and presenting it, either wholly or with only minor changes,
as if it were the student's own work.
3. Working with others on an assignment which is intended to be an
individual assignment, and incorporating their material into your work.
Attendance: Students are expected to attend every class. Any student who absent more than
4 classes will be denied from completing the course (i.e., DN).

Class Activities: will enhance your understanding of the subject and overall performance.
Class activities (e.g., assignments, home works, discussions, group work and
project) will be further clarified. Submit assignments when they are due. These
activities worth 30 points of your total grade.
FINAL EXAMS

before the corresponding class period. Students are responsible for knowing the assigned material.
