FAQ’s

How will I be graded in this class? We use the total points

system. Each assignment is worth a certain number of points.
Earned points are added up and divided by the number of
possible points to determine your final grade. For example, let’s
say you earned a 4/5 on a HW, a 19/20 on a quiz, and a 75/100 on
a test. The total points possible were 5+20+100=125. You earned
4+19+75=98 of them. Therefore, your grade would be
98/125=0.784=78%. You will start out each marking period with 15
class work points to represent the work you do in class that is not

The All Important Notebook

As with many other classes, you are required to maintain a notebook that
contains all of the material that we learn. We do not have a textbook
specifically for this class (although you may use the biology and earth
science textbooks from time to time), so your notebook is vital to your
success in this course.

You need a three ring binder (which can

Notebook Quizzes
September 30
Throughout the year, you will have short notebook quizzes that
will test the organization of your notebook. These will not be Rosh Hashanah—Schools Closed
content based but will ask questions like “What is the title of page 12?” They will be announced
only 1-3 days in advance so be sure to keep up with your notebook every day!

Classroom Etiquette
Safety is our most important consideration. THERE ARE NO SECOND CHANCES. If you don’t follow
procedures and listen to directions you will not be able to take part in class activities and labs.

You are expected to check and correct your work, take notes when appropriate, and take part in
class discussions and activities. Courtesy and manners are important. Listen while others speak
and speak only when called on. If we need the class’ attention, we will ring the call bell or use our
lab area call to order – stop what you are doing and look and listen for
instructions.

Although learning will not always be fun, make the best of every class and
this year will be enjoyable for you, us, and every student in our class.

Science Rules!
