Unit -I

Understanding the need, basic guidelines, contents and process of value education

Need:

Year Literacy Year Literacy

1947 12% , 2011 74%

The Supreme Court said that the education system in the country has failed to achieve its
objective and it has to be reformed immediately.

It is unfortunate that today education instead of reforming the human behavior, in our humble
opinion, appear to have failed to achieve its objective.

 Correct identification of our aspirations: people may have various plans for their future. This
planning may include personal life, professional life, family life, social life and other domainsof
life. They need to identify the basic aspirations on the basis of correct meaning of their life and
then frame your goals, sub goals and working for fulfilling basic assumptions.
 Understanding universal human values to fulfil aspirations in continuity: Values form basis for all
our thoughts, behavior and actions. Differentiate b/w right and wrong, just and unjust, desirable
and undesirable, Correct understanding of value system, Seeking happiness in continuity,
Understand universality of human values that leads to value education
 Complementarily of value and skill
 Evaluation of our beliefs
 Technology and human values

Guidelines: Universal, Rational, Natural and Verifiable, all encompassing, leading to harmony

Content of value education: we need to understand human reality with all that is there in the
existence constituting the larger order( includes human beings, plants, soil, water, animals, birds etc)
and the role of human beings in the relationship with each and every unit of the existence.

Process: Verify proposal through self exploration in a natural manner acceptable to us, experiential
validation, investigate into one self sincerely, in form of a dialogue with teachers/ himself or herself
and a motive of transformation in our consciousness.

Chapter-ii

Self exploration:

A dialogue b/w what you are and what you really want to be.

A process of self evaluation through self investigation, knowing oneself and through knowing the
entire existence, process of recognizing relationship with every unit in existence. Process of human
conduct, character and living accordingly, process of being in harmony in one self and in harmony
with entire existence, identifying our innateness, self organization and self expression.

Natural Acceptance: Independent with time, place and situation, depends on our beliefs and past
conditioning, it is constantly there and as a part and parcel of human being.

Chapter iii

Continuous happiness and Prosperity:

Happiness: There are some sets of feelings when one is able to accept effortlessly and naturally, such
as trust, respect, being confident about future and desire them to continue and feel harmony in our
thoughts and feelings.

“The state or situation in which I live, if there is harmony/synergy in it, then I like to be in state or
situation” or To be in a state of liking is happiness”

Prosperity: Prosperity is related to material things what we call as physical facilities. When we are
able to cater to the needs of the body adequately we feel prosperous. Therefore, prosperity is the
feeling of having or making available more than required physical facilities and hence to ascertain
prosperity two things are essential:

Correct assessment of needs for physical facilities

Competence of making available more than physical facilities (through production)

Two basic requirements to ensure happiness and prosperity for human beings are: Relationship with
other human/people leads to mutual fulfillment and happiness, Relationship with the rest of the nature
leads to mutual prosperity.

Correct understanding of Happiness and Prosperity:

To be in the state of harmony is called happiness. If we acquire this state, there will be no struggle, no
conflict, no contradiction and we will have happiness. when we will have feelings of failure,
doubtfulness, lack of understanding, lack of harmony, sorrows, this will lead us towards unhappiness.

Lack of right understanding of happiness and prosperity has led us into a variety of problems at
different level of our living (individual, family, society and nature).

Right understanding+Relationship= Mutual Happiness

Right understanding+Physical facility= Mutual Prosperity

Five stages to get the prosperity:

Know what you want

Imagine the feeling we shall have after possessing the things that we want

Remove our resistance to being

Be open to receiving

Take the right action

The Right Understanding, Relationship and Physical facilities- the basic requirement

The basic need of human being can be seen to consist of need for right understanding, relationship
and physical facilities in right order. We desire mutual fulfillment in our relationship but are unable to
have this or to ensure this in continuity. This is because we are largely operating on the basis of
assumptions leading to uncertainty in ourselves and in our relationship with people and our
interaction with nature. We need to ensure right understanding, because today we are largely occupied
with accumulation of physical facilities and tend to ignore relationship and right understanding. We
need to understand harmony at different levels of life and this will facilitate continuous happiness and
prosperity.

The animals are primarily concerned with survival for which they need to consume physical facilities.
The need for right understanding and relationship is what distinguishes human being from animals.
To live only for physical facilities is called animal consciousness, while to live with all three: right
understanding, relationship and physical facilities leading to mutual happiness and prosperity is called
human consciousness.

Understanding the Harmony at various levels:

For this purpose, we need to understand the human being is more than just body. This is the co
existence of self (I) and body and we need to understand the need of the self and body and then
analyze the percentage of need of self and body and ultimately we find the need of the self is greater
than the body. Self (I) is the conscious entity while body is the material entity and there is exchange
of information b/w I and the body. I(self) needs happiness and the need of the body is physical
facilities. Need of I is happiness ,trust, respect etc. and are qualitative in nature, while the need of the
body is food, clothes and shelter, i.e. temporary in nature, but the need of I is permanent in nature. We
need to establish relationship with right understanding and sense of mutual prosperity with
individuals, group, family, society and nature by understanding their contributions to the existence
and development with human beings and ultimately that will lead to the sustainable development of
human, society, business and create a sense of attachment with cosmos, universe and will lead to
contentment, happiness and prosperity in a broader sense.

UNIT II

Understanding Myself as Co-existence of the Self and the Body

It has been experienced that our fundamental motivation is that of continuous happiness and
prosperity. This in turn depends on our understanding of reality, or harmony at every level of our
existence. The four levels of our living are:

 Living in myself
 Living in family
 Living in society
 Living in natural existence

The human being is a co-existence of ‘I’ and the body and there is exchange of information
between the two. The distinction can be made in three ways in terms of the needs, activities and
the types of these two entities.

The human being can be seen as a co-existence of the self (jivana) and the body. The ‘I’ is
conscious in nature while the body is materialistic in nature. There is exchange of information
between ‘I’and the body.

The basic need of ‘I’ is happiness (sukha), and the needs of the body are physical facilities
(suvidha). Needs of the ‘I’ such as happiness, trust, respect etcare: qualitiative (not quantitative)
and continuous in time. Whereas needs of the body like food, clothing, shelter – physical
facilities, are quantifiable and temporary in time. The need on the ‘I’ for happiness is fulfilled by
right understanding and right feelings, while the need of the body is fulfilled by food, clothing
etc.

The activities in ‘I’ are desiring, thinking, imagining etc. while the activities in the body are
digesting, breathing, heartbeats etc. All our activities can be seen as going on in ‘I’,those
involving ‘I’ and the Body, both; and those going on in the Body.

Activities in ‘I’ can also be understood as knowing, assuming, recognizing and fulfilling. The
recognition and fulfilment in ‘I’ depends on assuming. Assuming depends on knowing, without
knowing correctly, we only assume or operate on the basis of beliefs. Activities in the Body are
recognizing and fulfilling. The Body does not have the capacity ot assume. Thus, the recognition
and fulfilment in the Body is always definite.

We can list our needs and identify which needs are related to ‘I’, and which needs are related to
the Body. We see that many of our needs are realted to ‘I’; while some others are related to the
Body. We see that the need for physical facilities for the body is limited and quantitative and it is
not endless. When we think in terms of physical facilities, the needs turn out to be definite. When
we think in terms of money, need for money turns out to be undefined. The way to work out the
need for money is thus to identify the need for prosperity, and in order to feel prosperous, find
out what the need for physical facilities is, and then to find out how much money is needed to
acquire the required quantity of physical facilities.

Taking this further, we can see that: I am, the Body is. The awareness of being is in ‘I’. I want to
live and the Body is used by me as an instrument. Just living is not sufficient for me, I want to
live with continuous happiness. The body needs nourishment and protection, for which food,
clothing etc are required. Right utilization of the body needs instruments and equipments. My
program is to understand and live in harmony at all four levels of living. Production, protection
and right utilization of physical facilities is only a part of my program. Today we are largely
unaware of our Self ‘I’ and the needs of ‘I’. As a result, we are not paying attention to the needs
and program of ‘I’ at all. Instead, all our attention today is on accumulation of physical facilities,
using which, we can at the most ensure the health of the body. There is hence a need for us to
focus on the needs and program of ‘I’, else, we will remain unfulfilled.

I am the seer, doer and enjoyer. Body is an instrument. I am the seer. I am the one who sees and
understands. I sometimes use the body as an aid to see. ‘Seeing’ here means ‘understanding’.
Seer is also called drasta. I am the doer. I am the one that decides for doing things. Decisions,
choices are continuously being made in me. Sometimes, I may express these decisions via the
body. Doer is also called karta.

I am the enjoyer of all that is done. Enjoyer is also called bhokta.

Harmony in the self (‘I’) – Understanding myself

The basic human aspiration is to have continuous happiness and prosperity. Happiness is a
state/situation in which there is synergy, there is harmony. We are unhappy when there is a state
of conflict in us.

We see that this conflict is primarily inside us. To understand why these conflicts arise and how
we can get rid of them, we need to understand ourselves, the activities in our self ‘I’. Activities
of imaging (desire),analysing (thought) and selecting/tasting (expectation), are constantly taking
place in ‘I’.

These activities are related. They are together called imagination. We are largely unaware of
these activities in ‘I’ today. (This is because we are not paying attention to ‘I’ at all, leave alone
the activities in ‘I’, since we are operating on the assumption that ‘I’ = body).

Today, our desires, thoughts and expectations are being set either on the basis of some pre-
conditioning or on the basis of sensation – i.e from the ‘outside’ – these are not self verified by
us on the basis of our natural acceptance.

As long as our desires are being set by the outside (from a sensation or a pre-conditioning), there
is a chance that we may be in conflict. If our desires are being set either by a pre-conditioning
(manyata), orby some sensation from the body, we are enslaved (partantra).

In this state, not only are our desires, thoughts and expectations in conflict amongst themselves,
they are also in conflict with our own natural acceptance and this creates unhappiness in us. This
is the basic issue. The basic issue is that our imaginations are in conflict with our natural
acceptance.

Through the process of self exploration, the activities of realization and understanding get
activated. Once we start operating at the level of (1) and (2), our desires, thoughts and
expectations get aligned with (1) and (2) – our own natural acceptance, and we are svatantra
(self organized). There is self organization in my activities, leading to continuity of happiness.
This is harmony in the self ‘I’.

It is possible to have this realization and understanding by starting this process of self-
exploration on the basis of our natural acceptance and exploring into the proposals being put
forth so that we are able to see the reality, see the harmony at all levels of our living. This
Realization and Understanding of harmony at all levels of our being and living accordingly
becomes the basis of continuous happiness – the basic human aspiration.
Harmony with the Body – Understanding Sanyama and svasthya

Human being is co-existence of the self (‘I’) and the Body. There is exchange of information
between ‘I’ and the Body.’I’ is the sentient entity while the body is material entity. I have the
feeling of sanyama for the body and the body has Svasthya. Sanyama is basic to Svasthaya.

Sanyama is the feeling of responsibility in the self to ensure the nurturing, protection and right
utilization of the body. Svasthya has two elements, one that the body acts according to the Self,
and secondly, there is harmony between the parts of the body.

The need for physical facilities for nurture, protection and right utilization of the body is limited.
When we evaluate our state today, we find that we are not quite responsible towards taking care
of the body today. We tend to go for medication in place of ensuring the health of the body. Even
the air, water, food etc that we consume are no more fully suited to health.
We need to understand and live with sanyama to ensure health. Clarity of the needs of the body,
paves way towards ensuring prosperity.

Unit-III

Living in Harmony with Family and society

Understanding Harmony in the family:

Some of the findings for understanding harmony in family:

There is a relationship that exists b/w the self(I) and other Self(I)

There is a feeling of relationship that exists b/w self(I) and other self(I)

There is unambiguous feeling in self (I) that can be identified with exactness.

Identifying and fulfilling these feelings may lead to mutual happiness in relationship.

In today’s very busy and stressful life, parents are not getting adequate time to live with their
children. Both husband and wife are engaged in earning to fulfill the daily requirements of the family.
The responsibility to keeping their child with maid servants or the other member of family and hence
children are not getting adequate affection of their parents. Children are not getting time outside the
house so their suitable development does not take place and suffer with some sorts of ill feeling and
abrupt behavior and we feel incompetent generation.

As per the research today is to keep child with themselves, keeping abreast to parents, showing
affection and allowing to pass time outside the house. This is affecting the relationship b/w I and
family. Relationship with family is automatically established just after taking birth in a family.
Similarly family always exists naturally as a part of social interdependency. Thus we are embedded
with relationship and need to recognize them.

Understanding the values in Human Relationship (Nyay, Tripti, Vishwas, Respect)

We can understand that these relationships are based upon the understanding that relationship in a
family is not created rather gets developed automatically. It will be natural to have a right feeling
(values) in these relationships. These feelings are definite and can be recognized with certainty.
Having the feelings in relationship is an activity of self (I) and not of the body. It becomes he clear
relationship with self (I) and other self(I) and the feelings are also b/w these Is. Mutual fulfillment is
the natural outcome of a relation correctly recognized and maintained.

NYAY (Justice): Justice is the recognition of values (the definite feelings) in relationship, their
fulfillment, the right evaluation of the fulfillment in mutual happiness ( Ubhay-Tripti). So, there are
four elements of justice; recognition of values, fulfillment of values (feelings), evaluation the
fulfillment of value and mutual happiness.
Feelings (Values in relationship): Trust (Vishwas), Respect (Samman), Affection (Sneh), Care
(Mamta), Guidance (Vatsalya), Reverence (Shraddha), Glory (Gaurav), Gratitude (Kritagyata), Love
(Prema)

Trust (Vishwas) is the foundational value in relationship and this is defined as to be assured that each
human being inherently wants oneself and others to be happy and prosperous. This can be achieved
by understanding Intention and Competence. Intention is what one aspires for(natural acceptance)
and competence is the ability to fulfill aspirations. We need to correctly examine both elements. Most
of the people work or assess on the basis of intention and nobody like to blame their own intention
because they have the illusion that they are very much correct in their aspirations, thought process
and their innate ability, rather they need to look at their own competence level and also the
competence level of others and based on that they should frame their natural acceptance and do the
justice with their family, society and others.

Respect (Samman) means right evaluation. Usually we make mistake in our evaluation in three ways;
over Evaluation( Adhi Mulyankan), Under evaluation (Up mulyankan), Otherwise evaluation(a-
mulyankan). The respect means right evaluation and then we can be sensitive in relationship. Right
evaluation of a human being is on the basis of acceptance of co existence of self and body and when
the basis of respect is human being this will lead to mutual happiness and prosperity.

Affection (Sneha): Affection is the feeling of being related to the other. It comes when I recognize
that we both want to make each other happy and both of us are similar and hence for the first time one
feels that he is related with the others and the other is a relative of him.

Care (Mamta): The feeling of care is the feeling to nurture and protect the body of our relative. We
understand that human being is the co existence of self and body and the body is the instrument of I
and based on this understanding we should take care of nurturing and protecting body of our relatives,

Guidance (Vatsalya): The feeling of ensuring right understanding and feeling in others is called
guidance or vatsalya. We need our self for right understanding and feeling. Right understanding and
feeling is also a need of the other and the other is related to me and hence it is the responsibility to
help others to make them aware and guide the right path for right understanding in terms of desire,
thought and expectation.

Reverence (Shraddha): The feeling of acceptance of excellence in other is called Reverence. We

understand that we aspire for continuous happiness and to realize it and hence we need to understand
harmony at all the levels of our living. If we see some one has attained the level of harmony at such a
level that or all levels of living ensures continuity of happness, we have a feeling of reverence for
him. This is searching of excellence in others and feeling of accepting of excellence is called
reverence (shraddha).

Glory (Gaurav): Each of us have similar faculty of natural acceptance and want to live with
continuous happiness and prosperity and have the same goal and program and we have the same
potential to realize this. Glory is the felling for someone who has made efforts for excellence. We find
that there have been people in history who are investing their time and energy and their belongings to
achieve excellence (to understand and to live in harmony at all levels of living beings), to make others
excellent. This gives the feeling of glory of them.

Gratitude (Kritagyata): Gratitude is the feeling of acceptance for those who have made efforts for my
excellence and existence. We are helped and guided by others that have the right understanding.
When we understand this and begin to recognize, salute and appreciate the feelings in ourselves, we
feel gratitude in our relationship.

Love (Prema): The feeling of being related to all is love or prema. This feeling or value is called the
complete value (Sampoorna Mulya), since this is the relatedness to all human beings. It starts with
identifying that one is related to the other human beings and slowly it expands to the feeling of being
related to all human beings and this feeling of love leads to an undivided society, it starts with a
family and gradually comprises the world family it its circumpherence.

Difference b/w Intention and competence: Intention is basically wanting to our natural acceptance
and the competence is the ability to do things or the ability to fulfill the aspirations. Competence level
is generally adjudged at three levels of the individual, i.e. desire, thought process and expectation.

Difference b/w respect and differentiation: today we are differentiating respect on the basis of their
body, wealth , possession, their beliefs or respecting someone in terms of superiority or speciality and
in that case there is no feeling of relationship, only of the differentiation.

Understanding Harmony in Society: this can be ensured by samadhan, samridhi, abhay and sah
astitwa. Right understanding arises through insights. With right understanding people become free
from moral conditioning. Right understanding is to be developed through reflection. We need to
establish full conscious awareness of things. Prosperity is defined as the state of being successful,
thriving or wealthy. It is a state of being contented with what you desire. The societal prosperity can
be evaluated in terms of stable economy, entrepreneurship and opportunity, governance, education,
health, safety and security, personal freedom and social capital. There is infinite power in human
being, but despite such power, people do not have faith in themselves. The reason being they feel
separate and believe that they are different from divinity, but of course they are inside as very core.
The same divinity pervades entire universe.

Lack of understanding of harmony has led astray our programs and we are not able to work for
fulfilling comprehensive human goal today. The programs to fulfill the human goals include five
dimension of society: Education- Right living( shiksha-sanskar), Health- Self Regulation(swasthya-
sanyam), Justice-Preservation(nyay-suraksha), Production-work (utpadan-karya), Exchange-
Storage(vinimay-kosha).

Education is to understand harmony at all levels of existence and right living is the commitment and
preparedness to live in harmony at all levels. Self regulation is the feeling of responsibility for
nurturing, protecting and rightly utilizing your body. Health (swasthya) is the state of body when it is
fit to act according to the needs of the self and there is harmony among the parts of the body. Justice
(nyay) is the recognition, fulfillment and evaluation of values in human relations leading to mutual
happiness. Preservation is the recognition, fulfillment and evaluation of values in humen and rest of
the nature leading to mutual prosperity (Enrichment, protection and right utilization of nature).
Production is the physical facility obtained out of work and contains two issues: What to produce and
how to produce (process).Exchange relates to exchanging of produce for mutual fulfillment not for
madness of profit. Storage relates storing of produce after fulfillment of needs with a view to right
utilization in future not for hoarding.

Visualising a universal harmony in society ( Akhand samaj and sarvabhoum samaj)

Harmony is an integral value that includes and determines all set of values. This comprises peaceful
cohabitation, natural law, unity of opposites, justice, wholeness, holism, unity in diversity, beauty,
common good, perfection, virtue, humanism, and proportionality, all round development, steadiness,
completeness of feeling, love, health etc. Its opposites are disharmony, antagonism, violence, war,
defectiveness, disorder, illness, evil and so on.

The vision of undivided society is living in harmony. Man can do different types of work for their
livelihood but we need to understand common need of peace, tranquility, happiness and prosperity
amongst all types of people in society and for this purpose we need to establish harmonious order in
community. The root cause of conflict and dispute is variation in culture, civility, norms, systems and
expansionist approach. Every community assumes their superiority in their own jurisdictions than
others but these set of thoughts will not facilitate happiness and prosperity. Right understanding is
only the tool that can bring uniformity, mutual happiness and mutual prosperity.

Universal order is a platform which seeks to unite humanity through core principles in all societies. The
intent is to unite all people to form a global social order which has key supranational institutions capable
of defending the dignity, right and lives of all people. It is the time for the world people to unite and push
back against the onslaught environmental catastrophes, political atrocities and petty conflicts that divide
and degrade quality of life. A family is a domestic group of people affiliated by birth or marriage or by
comparable legal relationship as adoption. Throughout the history family has been central to human
society and a key indicator of societies’ wellbeing. The family is the fundamental unit of society and is
entitled to protection by society and state. Moral virtues, empathy and good human relationship weaves
the entire world in a family system.

UNIT IV

Harmony in the Nature – Understanding the Interconnections and mutual

fulfillment

There are four orders in nature: material order, plant/bio (pranic) order, animal order and human
order. There is interconnectedness among all the orders.the first three orders are mutually
fulfilling to the rest three orders, only human order is not able to be fulfilling to the other orders.

There is recyclability and self-regulation in nature. We can understand the four orders in terms of
the things under the group, their activities, the innateness, the natural characteristic, the basic
activity and the conformance. The table provided, gives a comprehensive look at each of these
aspects. A critical appraisal of where we stand today shows that humans are largely living like
animals. The way out is development of consciousness in mankind.

Harmony in Existence – Understanding Existence as Co-existence

There are two kinds of realities in existence: units, ad space. Space is a reality and can be
understood. The units are in co-existence being in space. We can thus understand the whole of
existence as Nature submerged in space.

The units are limited, active, energised, recognize and fulfil the relationship with other units, and
self organized. Space is all pervading, no activity, equilibrium energy, reflecting (transparent),
and self organization is available in space.
Existence is co-existence. Being in space, the units are in harmony, and fulfil the relationship
with each other. This can be understood for all the four orders. My role in existence is only to
understand the co-existence to reach the state of kriyapurnata and live accordingly to attain
acharanpuranata.

With lack of right understanding, we are investing ourselves to grow things that donot grow,
develop things where it cycles back. We need to work on the material order for composition or
construction, on plant order for growth and development, we need to work for right
understanding.
UNIT- V

Providing the basis for Universal Human Values and Ethical Human Conduct
Implications of right understanding are:

 The right understanding enables us to discover that values are a natural outcome of the
right understanding. They need not be imposed through fear, greed or blind belief.
 The definitiveness of ethical human conduct is understood in terms of definitiveness of
values, policies and character and it is universal.
 Identification of the innateness of human being, svatva, leads to svatantrata and svarajya.
 Right understanding helps the human being to transform from animal consciousness to
human consciousness.
 This will help show positive signs of improvement in living of human being at the level
of individual, family, society and nature.

Implications of the above Holistic Understanding of Harmony on Professional

Ethics

 Natural acceptance of human values.

 Definitiveness of Ethical Human Conduct.
 Basis for Humanistic Education, Humanistic Constitution and Humanistic Universal
order.
 Competence in professional ethics:
o Ability to utilize the professional competence for augmenting universal human
order,
o Ability to identify the scope and characteristics of people-friendly and eco-
friendly production systems,
o Ability to identify and develop appropriate technologies and management
patterns for above production systems.

 Case studies of typical holistic technologies, management models and production

systems.
 Strategy for transition from the present state to universal human order:
o At the level of individual : as socially and ecologically responsible engineers,
technologists and managers &
o At the level of society: as mutually enriching institutions and organizations.

Basis for the Holistic Alternative towards Universal Human Order:

The right understanding helps us to identify the comprehensive human goal in terms of
Samadhana, Samriddhi, Abhaya, Sah-astitva and set all our sub goals based on these. This gives
us the vision of the ‘holistic alternative’ in all the dimensions of human being.

The understanding of harmony gives the basis and framework of humanistic education and
humanistic constitution. The universal human order in terms of five dimensions of society and
states of organization from family to world family can be visualized on this basis.
Professional Ethics in the Light of Right Understanding
Profession implies meaningful participation in the larger order incuding society and nature in
pursuance of comprehensive human goal and in the process also making available the necessary
the physical facilities for one’s family. Developing ethical competence in the individuals
(professionals) is the only effective way to ensure professional ethics.

The competence in professional ethics manifests as follows:

Clarity about the comprehensive human goal: Samadhan – Samriddhi – Adbhay – Sah-
astitva.
Confidence in oneself in the harmony and co-existence prevailing in entire existence
based on the right understanding of oneself and the rest of existence.
Competence of mutually fulfilling behaviour, clarity and confidence in ethical human
conduct and its correlation with sustainable personal as well as collective happiness and
prosperity.
Competence of mutually enriching interaction with Nature, ability to assess the needs for
physical facilities for the family and their fulfilment through production systems ensuring
harmony in nature.
Competence of actualizing one’s understanding.

The increase of unethical practices in various professions, the contradictions and dilemmas are
primarily due to the prevailing worldview focussing on profit maximization. These can only be
resolved through right understanding.
Vision for Holistic technologies, Production Systems and Management Models

The holistic criteria of evaluation basically emerge from correct appraisal of the comprehensive
human goal. The main guidelines are:

 The capacity to cater to appropriate needs and lifestyles.

 People friendliness and eco-friendliness.
 Effective utilization of local resources, local expertise and manpower and poverty for
local consumption.
 Decentralized structure

Most of the prevailing systems are human innovations in consonance with the prevailing world
view. Hence, inspite of utilization of the advanced knowledge of science and technology, these
are not quite conducive to sustainable human welfare. A careful study and evaluation of the
systems of nature and the holistic traditional practices will be helpful in the development of
suitable systems as per the current needs.

Understanding the status and characteristics of various renewable and eco-friendly technologies
and systems being developed in recent times through case studies will be helpful in motivating
R&D effort in this direction.
